Passing the bar exam is a significant hurdle for aspiring lawyers, but Varsity Tutors can set you up with a Columbus bar exam prep course or private instructor that might be able to help you. Even if you've learned about the bar exam and what to expect as a student at schools like the Michael E. Moritz College of Law at the Ohio State University or at Capital University Law School, anybody who plans to take the bar exam can benefit from some review or a little extra help.
What Material is Covered by Columbus Bar Exam Prep?
Passing the bar exam is required for anybody who is interested in obtaining a license to practice law. It was developed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) to test the competence and knowledge of potential new lawyers. There are different formats of the exam that are taken throughout the country, and each state has its own requirements. For the purpose of this article, we're going to go over what you can expect if you were to take the bar exam in Ohio.
Ohio uses the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination, the Multistate Bar Examination, and the Multistate Performance Test. The Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination or MPRE is two hours long and is made up of 60 multiple-choice questions. It is based on the laws governing the conduct and discipline of lawyers and judges and covers topics such as the client-lawyer relationship, conflicts of interest, and client confidentiality. The Multistate Bar Examination or MBE is a six-hour long exam with 200 multiple-choice questions. Its purpose is to assess whether a candidate can apply legal principles and reasoning to analyze given fact patterns. Some of the topics covered by this exam include civil procedure, criminal law, and torts. The Multistate Performance Test or MPT consists of two 90-minute items that are designed to test a candidate's ability to use their lawyering skills in a realistic situation. It will require candidates to separate relevant facts from irrelevant information, analyze the case and administrative materials for applicable principles of law, and resolve ethical dilemmas when they are present. Basically, it requires candidates to complete a task that should be within the means of a novice lawyer.
What are the Benefits of the Different Types of Columbus Bar Exam Preparation?
Varsity Tutors can either enroll you in a Columbus bar exam prep course or set you up with a private instructor to help you prepare for the bar exam. Both of these options have their benefits, and some candidates have even decided to use both of them. Most tend to choose one over the other, however. If you decide to enroll in a bar exam prep course, you will be placed in a virtual classroom where you can chat with other students and your instructor. You will be able to engage in learning activities and collaborate with your fellow students, something that has shown to be helpful to students who are learning new skills or studying for an important exam. If you need any additional help from someone besides your fellow students, you can always contact your instructor and request a one-on-one study session.
One of the most convenient parts of enrolling in a Columbus bar exam class is that it is all online. There is no need to commute to a physical classroom or worry about missing a class due to an illness or conflict. As long as you have a stable Internet connection, you can contribute to the class. Since new classes open up regularly, you should be able to find something that fits into your busy schedule.
If you would prefer to receive one-on-one instruction from a private instructor, we can also set you up with a private Columbus bar exam tutor. This will allow you to work more at your own pace with a qualified instructor who will give you their undivided attention. The two of you will be able to plan out study sessions that are geared towards your own learning style and that will focus on areas where you need the most help. As with the prep courses, your tutoring sessions will be online, so you will be able to chat with your instructor from wherever you can connect to the Internet.
