Varsity Tutors can help anyone looking for qualified Buffalo MCAT prep. If you're planning on applying to medical schools within the US, like the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, you may be expected to take the MCAT, or Medical College Admission Test. This exam assesses your abilities in a variety of areas based on the concepts that medical school students, faculty, and residents consider important. Whether your test prep is just starting or you've been reviewing for a while, we can help you get signed up for thorough MCAT prep that suits your learning preferences.
No two students learn in quite the same way. While some prefer to work in groups while following a curriculum, others prefer something a little more personalized. Whether you would rather sign up for a Buffalo MCAT prep class or work one-on-one with a mentor, you can take advantage of expert instruction that aims to help you build the skills you need to put your best foot forward on the exam.
What can Buffalo MCAT prep cover?
Administered by computer, the MCAT covers four sections, each of which scores on a scale of 118 to 132. You receive individual scores for each section, as well as a single combined total score from 472-528. The sections are Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills; Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems; and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. Each is timed for 95 minutes for a total testing time of 6.5 hours.
The Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems presents 59 multiple-choice questions. These are divided between passage-based and independent questions. There are 10 passages, each of which are followed by 4-6 related questions. There are several subjects covered in this section, including general chemistry, basic biochemistry, introductory physics, and others. These questions assess your understanding of physical, mechanical, and biochemical functions of human tissues and organ systems based on physics.
There are 53 passage-based questions in the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section. With 5-7 questions per passage, you will need to read through nine passages across a variety of subjects. The questions focus on your abilities, such as how well you can apply existing knowledge to a new context or analyze and gain meaning from compositional sources.
The 59 questions on the Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section are split between 10 passages and 15 independent questions. You will need to know how organ systems and cells of an organism act both independently and as a unit. Questions assess your knowledge of living organisms' and their unique processes, such as adaptation, internal environment maintenance, and reproducing.
Finally, the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior is structured in the same way as above. 10 passage-based sets of questions and 15 questions that aren't related. This section serves to assess the skills that are necessary to serve a diverse population. The questions address a variety of key concepts, such as behavioral changes that can impact health, cultural differences, resource availability based on demographic, and other human and social issues that play a role in medicine.
Why take a different approach to Buffalo MCAT prep?
When it comes to preparing for an important exam like the MCAT, you can benefit from different types of review. Varsity Tutors can get you signed up for a preparation course or connect you with a private instructor. There are some key differences between each. You can pick between these options or participate in a combination of the two. Let's explore the benefits of each, starting with a course.
A Buffalo MCAT prep course is similar to a traditional classroom. It is held entirely online via a virtual classroom, which you and your peers can attend remotely. New courses are started up on a weekly basis. You can sign up for two- or four-week sessions depending on how much review time you need. Once you're signed up, you can participate in collaborative sessions that encourage discussions that revolve around building the skills you need for the MCAT.
Group learning can help you retain information, whether you are working to build your test-taking skills or practicing different ways to approach different questions. Classes follow a set curriculum that focuses on the concepts covered by the exam. Your instructor can set aside one-on-one time to help you through topics that you find challenging as well.
Perhaps you would benefit more from connecting with a private Buffalo MCAT tutor. A personal instructor can take a unique approach to your review sessions that are based around your individual needs. They can use practice tests to assess your skills, allowing them to identify areas in which you have the most room for development. Your mentor can get to know your learning preferences, personality, testing goals, and other factors to develop a study guide that focuses on the topics and skills you find challenging. For instance, if you are confident about your understanding of social influences that impact medicine, your mentor can work with you through the mechanical components of an organism's organ systems instead. One-on-one tutoring can help you get the most out of the time you have before the test.
How can I get signed up for Buffalo MCAT prep?
Your score on the MCAT can demonstrate to medical schools that you are prepared for the program you are interested in. A thorough review can make a difference, allowing you to work under the guidance of an expert in a class or private setting to solidify these foundational skills. This can be an investment in your future, both academically and professionally.
Varsity Tutors can set you up with reliable MCAT preparation that can help you work towards your testing goals. Our educational consultants can offer more information about the benefits offered between MCAT classes and private tutoring.
