Preparing for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) exam doesn't have to be complicated or stressful when you use one of the Albuquerque MCAT prep solutions provided by Varsity Tutors. Whether you've just finished your undergraduate studies or you've been in the workforce building your skills and resume, preparing for the MCAT is something you shouldn't neglect.
The MCAT is one of the most intense testing experiences you're likely to have. It is highly respected as an accurate indicator of how successful a candidate is likely to be in medical school. Because of this, scores from the MCAT are required as part of the admissions process to almost all accredited medical schools within the United States. Whether you hope to attend the University of New Mexico School of Medicine or another top university, you need to take your time to prepare for the MCAT. Keep reading to learn more about what you will face on the exam and how Varsity Tutors can help you with your Albuquerque MCAT preparation efforts.
What can Albuquerque MCAT prep cover?
The four sections of the MCAT are Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior, Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, and Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills. You are given 95 minutes to answer 59 items each for the first three listed and 90 minutes to answer 53 questions for the remaining section. You will receive a total of five scores from your MCAT examination, one for each section and a cumulative score.
You will be in the testing environment for 7.5 hours, including breaks, testing time, and the time allotted to give you instructions on the exam. The test is administered on a computer, and at any point, you may be given experimental questions. If experimental questions are included in your test, it will not affect your score.
All sections of the MCAT follow a similar format. You will be given passages to read and a set of questions to answer based on what you've just read. In all but the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills portion of the exam, you will also need to complete 15 questions that are not associated with one of the reading passages.
Whether you choose to work with a private instructor or enroll in a class, you have the opportunity to review any subject area content covered on the MCAT. Some of the skills and concepts you may study as part of your preparation efforts include functions of the human body, chemical and physical principles of the human body and other living systems, verbal reasoning and comprehension, analytical skills, biochemical and biological concepts, scientific inquiry skills, reasoning skills, how to work with a diverse patient population, the impact of behavior on physical and mental health, and more.
How can an Albuquerque MCAT prep class help me prepare?
Taking an MCAT prep class takes the guesswork out of deciding what to study and when to make time to prioritize your studies. All of the structure and guidance you need to work towards your MCAT scoring goals are available within a class. You can customize your learning experience by choosing between a two and four-week class schedule. Each of our classes is designed with individual sections, and new sections begin at the start of every week. This type of modular design makes it easy to get started quickly and focus on areas of highest relevance to you.
Within the class itself, you will experience a learning environment similar to a traditional classroom. Your teacher will deliver targeted instruction based on the segment you're working. They may then encourage peer discussion or give assignments to help students more fully incorporate the lesson.
Part of the class experience is working with peers. It can be invaluable to have the support and insight of others who are in a similar position. If you are trying to prepare for the MCAT and you have no one else around you who has ever gone through the process, it can be alienating and make you feel higher levels of stress.
Classes are perfect for you if you want affordable professional support for your MCAT preparation efforts along with a group who can help motivate and support you on your journey.
How is working with an Albuquerque MCAT tutor different from taking a course?
Working with a private tutor allows you to receive individualized instruction in a way that is not possible in a classroom setting. When you take a course, your instructor must deliver a predetermined curriculum to numerous students at the same time and then facilitate group interactions and answer individual questions. While this is an effective educational model that gives the greatest number of students affordable access to high-quality Albuquerque MCAT prep resources, it does not provide extensive personalized instruction.
During a private tutoring session, you will be the sole focus of your instructor. Sessions are designed with your learning style, educational needs, and MCAT goals in mind, so every minute of instructional time helps you work on what you need specifically. One-on-one sessions also give you more opportunities to ask questions and receive direct feedback.
When you sign up for a course, you must register and attend during the times the course is scheduled for. When you work with a personal instructor, you have more flexibility in when you schedule your sessions.
Working with a private tutor is an excellent solution for individuals with hectic schedules who want to accelerate their MCAT preparation with professional resources but cannot make a course schedule mesh with their own. It's also ideal for those students who know they thrive in educational settings that are personalized to their individual needs.
