My name is Emma and I am studying Economics and Pre-medical studies at Claremont Mckenna College.
I began tutoring because I had such a positive experience working with a tutor myself. I began working with a tutor because I was determined to improve my writing. While I was often discouraged by writing, working with a tutor reignited a love of writing that had been lost for so very long. Through this experience, I feel that I can understand where my students' frustration lies. I truly love working with students of all ages and strive to build a personal relationship that makes the tutoring sessions enjoyable.
Furthermore, I am passionate about the subjects I tutor in. I am most excited by subjects in the natural sciences with an emphasis on human anatomy, biology, and psychology. I have experience with the material through taking courses such as Biology Honors, AP Biology, Physics, AP Environmental Science, Chemistry, and Medical Terminology. Furthermore, I took an EMT course before becoming nationally certified EMT which afforded me knowledge in human anatomy. My main goal of tutoring is to instill a love of learning and an interest in the subject.
Outside academia, I enjoy working in the medical field. I started my journey working as a hospital volunteer talking to patients during the most difficult of times. Inspired by this work, I wanted to delve deeper into the healthcare field. Therefore, I studied to pass the EMT exam and was able to work on an ambulance during my junior year of high school. While I enjoyed learning about the practical side of healthcare, I craved to understand it more in depth. To quench this thirst, I began an internship at St. Vincent's Hospital Clinical Trials Division working with a doctor who was studying experimental cancer drugs. I also enjoy hiking and journaling in nature. I have traveled to Alaska, Yellowstone, and Colorado to hike in the backcountry.
