Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is individuality. Not all students are the same and everyone learns differently. I discover the best way to teach each individual student, and then proceed with what works best for them.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would ask them what they're having trouble with, and give them tricks to fix the problem. Like when you have to memorize a lot of information, I would help them make flash cards. When the material is out of order or confusing, I would help them make an outline. And so on...

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would teach them how to study. You would be surprised by how effective study skills can be, and how few people possess those skills. I would teach them how to skim, how to organize, and how to be as productive as possible. I would also encourage them to break up work into short pieces and reward themselves after completing each task.
