I am a Phd student at the University of Arizona. I study modern British history, world history, and gender and women's history. I've tutored high school students and taught college-level history classes on everything from the Antebellum US to Modern Ireland. I tutor US, world, and European history, as well as study skills and essay writing. I believe that history should be taught as a narrative with a plot and characters rather than as a collection of names and dates to memorize. The main thing that sets me apart from other tutors is that I constantly use examples from contemporary popular culture and the media to explain academic concepts. When helping students study for history exams or projects, I find the best results come from using visual sources, videos, and digital collections. When working on study skills and writing, I encourage students to work on strengthening their arguments and use of evidence through exercises like asking them to develop a list of arguments for the opposite position. Aside from tutoring, I love travel, comic books, and all things sci-fi. If I see a chance to explain something using a comic book I've read or a place I've traveled to, I take it!
