Tutoring review by Michael in Tomball, TX
The student is covering conic sections in class and she is having some problems understanding them. We started by talking about where the shapes come from and the equations involved. After we worked through a problem or 2 from each section, we were able to clear up all uncertainties she felt toward these problems. We made sure that it stuck by practicing several more problems. The only thing left is to remember the 4 equations for each section!

The student had a review sheet for the Geometry chapter that they had been learning for the past few weeks. This review sheet consisted of finding the volume and surface area of spheres, cylinders, and cones. She had a good grasp of the material and was able to complete the review sheet with minimal assistance. She also asked that I give her a few made up practice problems involving finding the volume and surface area of similar solids/figures. She had no problems solving those either.

We worked through some algebraic equations and inequalities. I noticed that she needs to be more consistent, especially when it's two-step inequalities with variables on both sides of the inequality. On the other hand, this does give us a target to aim at this summer and she seemed to improve as the session went on.
