I am a graduate of McGill University (BA First Class Honors) and the University of Edinburgh (MSc First Class Honors with Distinction) with over eight years of tutoring experience. I am currently a curriculum developer for a company which creates relatable and culturally-literate courses for middle and high-schools, and am particularly adept at communicating and explaining concepts in a quirky, engaging, and intelligent manner. I was named Scotland International Young Thinker of the Year 2014 for exactly that sort of work. Much of my tutoring background is in test-prep and essay coaching, which I enjoy because it allows the tutor and student to think strategically together, and work as a team to achieve concrete results. I have worked with students ranging in age from 6-32, and believe that, in an educational context, a few jokes never hurt anybody. I love reading and learning, and my educational approach is centered around making the material just as engaging to students as it is to me. I think J.K. Rowlings, the writer of Harry Potter, is just as brilliant as Stephen Hawking, and in my free time, I manage my (terrible) fantasy baseball team, write songs for my comedy band, and crack jokes about terrible science-fiction movies with my friends.

I'm glad you've come to my page. I'm here as an experienced tutor and mentor who likes to listen to your specific needs and create an environment and plan ideal for your learning level and experience. Whether it's immediate assistance with an exam or long-term goals and improvement, I'm here to help!
I am a Yale graduate with over 8 years experience tutoring students from a variety of backgrounds. I recently graduated from the Yale School of Public Health with a MPH concentrating in Epidemiology and Global Health. I also received my B.S. from Yale with a double major in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and French. I have experience both leading group classes and working with students one on one. I will respond to a student's strengths, weaknesses, and learning style in order to help them succeed and make the most of our time together. I earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT, 2280 on the SAT, and qualified as a National Merit Scholar on the PSAT. I look forward to working with you!
I am a 2nd year medical student at Northeast Ohio Medical University and have tutored K-12 and college students over the past 10 years in various subjects ranging from math and science to SAT prep and language arts. My educational background includes an MPA in Development Practice from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, a B.S. in Molecular, Cell, & Developmental Biology, and a B.S. in Mathematics-Economics (both from UCLA). In addition, I have scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT, ACT, and GMAT exams and scored in the 95th percentile on the MCAT. I really enjoy working with students of all ages and backgrounds and believe all students are capable of learning and being successful with the right approach to education. I would love the chance to discuss in more detail what kind of tutoring you or your student is interested in and thank you for your consideration!
I am a current student at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in English and minoring in journalism and art history. I am very passionate about literature, writing and history, and I love sharing my knowledge and learning new things. In the past few years, I have worked with young children learning to read and high school Latin students, and I also love working with students on improving Standardized Test results. In my spare time, I love reading, music and anything active!
I am a Yale grad, Johns Hopkins master's candidate, and certified early childhood educator. At Yale, I studied History and Child Development. I went on to teach with Teach For America, and I am currently in my 3rd year of teaching. Tutoring has been an interest of mine for many years. I started tutoring when I was in middle school, and I haven't stopped. I thoroughly enjoy working with students of all ages to help supplement their learning. I am looking forward to helping your child to meet his/her goals!
I am currently a sophomore at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, majoring in Human Development with a minor in Education. I tutor a variety of subjects, I am the most passionate about English. I have previously tutored high school English, focusing on thesis development, grammatical skills, and creative writing. My experience creating weekly curriculums for students in preschool through 12th grade as an activity facilitator for Chautauqua Institution allowed me to refine many of my teaching skills. I was especially enthusiastic about my lessons on poetry and nature literature. Although my interest in teaching began in high school, my Education minor has given me more hands-on experience working with students. The minor has also introduced me to new teaching methods, as I have been able to dissect education theory and policy. In my free time, I read a lot of non-fiction, draw, and watch the West Wing.
I am excited to be tutoring. In my experience teaching, I have learned that empowerment in a subject is a combination of efficient guidance from me and a willingness to improve from my students. By signing up for tutoring, students are already taking the first step to mastering whatever areas in which they may be having difficulty. I won't do all the work for my students but I will never leave them to figure out everything by themselves, as that defeats the purpose of a tutor. I will constantly assess understanding during the learning process, thus gradually giving my students the confidence that they have moved into deeper understanding of material. With the right instruction, everyone is capable of overcoming those problem subjects, and I am happy to help along the way.
I am a recent graduate of Cornell University, where I received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Over the past several years, I have worked with students from diverse backgrounds and experiences tutoring thermodynamics (my personal favorite), chemistry, and math. I have also tutored in the past for ACT/SAT and other subjects such as history, but I am deeply passionate about science and engineering. I tend to push my students to understand conceptual topics, as opposed to rote or algorithmic learning. In my free time, I love to bake sourdough, learn about history, garden, and recently started biking again.
I am currently a senior at Johns Hopkins studying Biomedical Engineering. I have a lot of experience tutoring in math, physics, chemistry, and thermodynamics. I have also proof-read essays for college applications and english classes as well. Outside of school I like to cook, play basketball, and listen to music.
I am a rising junior at Vanderbilt University studying biomedical engineering, computer science, and engineering management. I currently plan on furthering my education in law school, specifically within intellectual property law. During the week, I work in the Center for Technology Transfer and Commercialization where I work with Vanderbilt researchers to take their inventions to industry. I also work in the Vanderbilt Office of Admissions. The pursuit of knowledge is my passion, and I look forward to working with you to help you in your academic endeavors!
I am a Gates Cambridge Scholar and recently completed my MPhil in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge. This fall, I will begin my legal education at Yale Law School. I believe that my achievement on the LSAT and in the law school application process, as well as my two years’ worth of part-time tutoring experience, have enabled me to help others successfully navigate the process of preparing for a legal education.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Middletown's 17 schools and 6 school districts with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends a school in the Middletown City Schools district or one of the surrounding districts, we can match them with a tutor who understands local curriculum standards and can provide targeted support aligned with what they're learning in class.
Tutors work with students on the specific Ohio standards and benchmarks their schools use, whether that's Ohio's Learning Standards for Math, English Language Arts, Science, or Social Studies. With personalized 1-on-1 instruction, students can focus on the exact concepts they're struggling with—like mastering fractions, understanding essay structure, or grasping scientific reasoning—rather than moving at a class pace that may not fit their needs.
While Middletown's average class size is reasonable, students still benefit from one-on-one attention that classroom instruction alone can't provide. Personalized tutoring fills gaps in understanding, allows tutors to adapt teaching style to each student's learning preferences, and gives students a dedicated space to ask questions without feeling rushed. This targeted support is especially valuable for students working toward advanced placement, preparing for standardized tests, or catching up in foundational skills.
In the first session, the tutor gets to know your student—their academic goals, current challenges, learning style, and what they're working on in their Middletown school classes. They'll assess where your student stands, identify specific areas needing support, and create a personalized plan. This foundation helps the tutor deliver targeted instruction from session one, whether your student needs help with a specific unit, test prep, or building confidence in a subject.
Middletown students seek tutoring across a wide range of subjects—Math and English Language Arts are most common, especially as students progress through middle and high school where concepts become more complex. We also support students in Science, Social Studies, test prep (ACT, SAT, Ohio assessments), and specialized help like writing, algebra, geometry, and AP courses. The specific needs vary by grade level and individual student goals.
We consider your student's subject, grade level, learning style, goals, and schedule when connecting them with a tutor. Tutors working with students in Middletown understand Ohio's curriculum standards and can tailor instruction to fit what your student is learning in their specific school. If the initial match isn't quite right, we work to find a better fit—the goal is a tutor who brings both expertise and a teaching approach that clicks with your student.
You'll see progress in multiple ways: improved grades and test scores, increased confidence in the subject, and better performance on school assignments and assessments. Tutors also provide feedback on what they're seeing in sessions—areas where your student is gaining mastery, concepts that need more practice, and next steps. Regular communication between you, the tutor, and your student helps ensure tutoring stays aligned with school expectations and your family's goals.
Tutoring sessions can be scheduled around your student's school day, extracurriculars, and family commitments. Whether your student needs help after school, on weekends, or during breaks, we work to find times that fit. Consistent scheduling helps build momentum, but we also understand that Middletown students have busy lives—tutors and families work together to create a sustainable routine.
