I am a graduate of Muskingum College with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Master of Arts in Education. I have twenty-three years or experience in elementary education. My passion is Reading, Math and Science. I love working with students and watching them learn. I truly believe that every student can learn. We as educators must find what it is that each student needs in order to learn. We as educators are always learning so that we can be the best for our students.
I am an experienced physical therapist with an orthopaedic specialty certification and 11 years of teaching and mentoring experience in physical therapy. I believe my abilities align directly with helping students who are anticipating taking certification exams. I have extensive teaching experience, ranging from patient education, to serving as an APTA credentialed clinical instructor for PT students, to regularly training staff on advanced clinical skills, evidence-based practice and clinic processes. I look forward to helping prospective therapists pass their board exams and enter into the great field of physical therapy.
I have over a year of formal experience tutoring elementary, middle school, high school, and undergraduate students in mathematics. I am a fourth-year undergraduate with a double major in Mathematics(BS) and Economics(BA) at Muskingum Uinversity and I am working toward a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) certification.All students learn differently, so sometimes I may focus on practical problems, basic concepts, introduce advanced concepts, or focus on proofs. I am not afraid to use play-doh, if necessary. Generally, I will:1) Diagnose problem areas.2) If the student is not up to speed, I will focus on those problem areas until they are caught up.3) If the student is up to speed, I will focus on logically progressing through concepts to ensure understanding.4) I will mention peripheral and advanced concepts to spark or maintain interest.5) I will give the student the minimal tools (s)he needs so (s)he can lead me to the solutions.Mathematics is a variety of complex concepts built on simpler concepts, which makes closing gaps in understanding paramount to overall success.
My goal is to help you or your child gain confidence and understanding of whatever subject matter desired. I am well-versed in all areas of Mathematics and willing to work with students to help them see tangible gains in their understanding. I am currently a STEM teacher teaching grades K-8, but have been employed previously as a Mathematics Teacher in both middle and high schools. I am an experienced Algebra and Geometry teacher, and I have good working knowledge of all subject areas in Mathematics. I have also been previously employed as a Mathematics tutor for college level Algebra and Trigonometry.I make a great tutor for two reasons, one, my problem solving tool set and, two, my connection to students. I have over 8 years teaching experience at all levels K-16. I have 4 years experience as a tutor for Mathematics, Study Skills and other subject areas.
I taught high school mathematics for five years in the Cincinnati area. I have always had a passion for teaching and for mathematics. I enjoy helping others find an appreciation for problem solving and finding multiple ways to get to an answer. I really like to focus on relating all material to something found in the student's life. This helps the material stick and is a good tool to use down the road.
Every student is capable of learning without exception. It is my job to engage the student so that they may learn the key content needed to be successful in school, and in life. Sometimes all that is needed is a fresh perspective on the content or a fresh look at what may be missing, and for those needs to be addressed.
