Ready to use my passion for teaching the core principles of patient care to a new generation of aspiring FNP students, I am confident that my years of nursing experience and wealth of knowledge as a preceptor is a perfect match for tutoring students for the AANP exam. For more than 20 years I have held various positions as an FNP and RN at fast-paced and high-volume medical care facilities throughout Columbus, Ohio. During those years, a large part of my focus has been on teaching novice nurses, using my experience as a nurse practitioner to lead educational sessions for students hoping to excel in their clinical rotations. Based upon the Jean Watson Nursing Theory, the mix of instruction and practical application to share best practices and teach valuable principles to nurse practitioner students, helped me become a highly versatile teacher with the ability to adapt and connect fully with the emerging nurses in my care. Primary focus is to teach practices that promote a nurturing work/educational environment where patient and student well-being and actualization is the top priority.A few highlights of my strong qualifications include the following:Entrusted to manage clinics and provide educational services for facility employees. All candidates in my care have successfully passed board exams.Use free time to serve as a tutor when possible.

My goal is to meet students where they are in order to support them in their learning. By understanding each student's unique interests, learning styles, and academic abilities, I will assist them in meeting their learning goals. As far as my experience in education goes, I taught elementary school for five years. I've taught kindergarten, 1st grade, and K-4 Reading Intervention. After those five years, I was fortunate enough to be able to stay at home upon the birth of my son. While staying at home with him, I earned my Yoga Teacher Training certification. Currently, I am a yoga instructor, and I'm looking to get back into education.

I am Dakota and I am from Ohio. I graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the Biomechanics of biofibers from Tunghai University in Taiwan. Yes, I lived in Taiwan for eight years and loved it! I am currently a post-doctoral research fellow at Chapman University. I love studying biology and have also helped students learn English while living abroad. I have been tutoring and teaching for about seven years, but watching students light up when they are excited to learn something new never gets old to me. I believe every student's learning experience is unique and I tailor how I teach to accomodate this. My favourite strategy is helping students find ways in which the subject they are learning applies to their own life in one way or another. I look forward to meeting, tutoring and providing guidance to all students that give me the honour of being their teacher!

I am an adaptive mathematically inclined information sponge. I am able to help breakdown complex concepts and tie them to more easily digestible ideas. Reading the material and conceptually understanding is just the first step in being able to apply theory. I have found that there is no good substitute to working through problems and to learn by doing them. Even if you don't get the correct answer the first time, reworking them will deepen that groove of understanding. Then each time the topic comes up a more intuitive understanding can be obtained. In my time away from books I enjoy staying physically active, from boxing classes to weight lifting. It helps to relive stress and clear the mind to take on life's difficult problems with boldness.

I am a recent college graduate looking for opportunities to tutor and get involved with education before I attend medical school this fall. I have a bachelor's of science from the University of Akron and my academic areas of focus where I am best prepared to teach are animal and cell physiology, immunology, biochemistry, and preparing for the MCAT. I took the MCAT this past January and am hoping to share some of the techniques that worked for me while the test is still fresh in my mind. For the ACT I would feel comfortable teaching the reading and science sections since those are my strong points.I have always enjoyed working with college students and most of my tutoring experience has been in my science classes during college. Generally when tutoring I believe its most important to let the tutee fully explain what they don't understand and try working it out on their own, rather than me first launching into general strategies that might not work for them.Outside of the nitty gritty sciences I'm a big fan of history and literature, and would always be up for discussing those subjects with a student. When I'm not studying some of my main pastimes are playing piano and the electric guitar, playing poker, and hiking.

I love being a facilitator of knowledge and helping students become independent learners. I think that seeking help where you are not clear is an important part of the independent learning process and it helps build confidence. I enjoy being part of that process of helping someone become more confident in what they are learning.I have an MBA from the University of Akron where I majored in Finance as a Fulbright scholar. I graduated in the top 15 percent of my graduating class with Financial Management Association honors. I love helping others learn and sharing my knowledge with them. During my time at the University of Akron I was president of the Fulbright Student Association. I also served as secretary of the Cross-Cultural Student Association. I love working with people from different parts of the world. I tutored students privately during my time in graduate school. My focus is on Corporate Finance. Some of my favourite subjects are the theory of the firm, portfolio theory (capital allocation to risky assets, optimal risky portfolios, risk and return); the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM); security analysis (macroeconomic and industry analysis, equity valuation models and financial statement analysis).I currently work as an analyst at a small business development agency. Some of my hobbies include hiking, travelling, long distance biking and burning the dance floor to some salsa or bachata beats. If you cannot find me doing any of the above, then you are most likely to find me baking a pie at my best friend's bakery downtown. I cannot declare myself a foodie but when I travel to other cities, I think the best way to explore is by eating my way through the entire city and then burning off the calories by walking through museums and galleries. One of my side gigs during graduate school was modelling and acting. The skills that I learnt during those days helped me learn how to adapt to my students' learning methods and adjust my teaching style from one student to the next. I love to start off a tutoring session by hearing out the student and what their background is. This helps me gauge how much scope we have to cover to have the student fully confident in the subject matter. I always encourage students to come prepared with questions including the so-called "silly questions because those are, more often than not, the breakthrough questions that help students piece everything together.

I am a student of The University of Akron. I will be receiving my Bachelors of Arts in Spanish this coming December 2015. I enjoy helping out students because I love the language Spanish and the culture as well. In the past year, I have traveled to Mexico, lived with native people and eaten real authentic food, which by the way I loved every bite of it (but again who doesn't love food!). My experience with students has been good because I help them understand in an easy way in order for them to grasp the concepts. My teaching philosophy would be to help the student reach their own set goal, whatever it may be. I will help with them activities and assignments that are due, help in memorizing and studying for tests, and much more. I'm here for the student so that they can become successful in yet another important part of their lives. I have always loved Spanish and helping people, not only in academic settings as well. Other than Spanish, I do enjoy reading mystery books and love watching movies of many genres.

From the fertile plains of Ohio emerged my passion for education intertwined with the rich tapestry of Gilded Age history. Growing up amidst the rolling hills and bustling cities of the Buckeye State, I was captivated by the tales of industrial magnates, pioneers of innovation, and the relentless pursuit of progress that defined this era. My journey through education began with a deep-seated curiosity about the Gilded Age, a period characterized by unprecedented expansion, ruthless business practices, and the allure of the Wild West. With its strategic location and booming industries, Ohio played a pivotal role in shaping the economic landscape of the time. Here, I first glimpse the intricate interplay between ambition and adversity, innovation and exploitation, defining this tumultuous American history period. As I delved deeper into the annals of Gilded Age history, I discovered the grandeur of industrial titans and the struggles of ordinary people striving for a better life. The juxtaposition of wealth and poverty, progress and inequality sparked a genuine desire to understand the events and their lasting impact on society. This passion for history and learning led me to pursue a career in education, fueled by the belief that knowledge can transform lives and shape the future. Drawing inspiration from past lessons, I am committed to instilling in my students a sense of empathy, critical thinking, and social responsibility. In my classroom, the story of the Gilded Age is more than just a history lesson; it is a lens through which we explore timeless themes of ambition, ethics, and the pursuit of the American Dream. By studying the triumphs and tribulations of this era, my students learn not only about the past but also about themselves and their place in the world. As we navigate the complexities of the present day, I am reminded of the enduring relevance of Gilded Age history. Just as our predecessors grappled with the challenges of their time, so too must we confront the pressing issues of ours. By embracing the lessons of the past and striving to make ourselves better people, we can forge a brighter future for generations to come.

As an instructor my role has always been to help students be successful in their academic studies by clearly explaining technical information, and doing such instruction with a level of confidence, passion and enthusiasm while reminding students that an education is also intended to train them to think and develop habits that can serve them well in the future. Each student is unique and individually gifted, and as an instructor, my greatest joy is serving students by encouraging them to learn and master new material. My teaching approach and lesson plan will be designed to meet the unique needs of each student. My specific focus is college students in their first and second year of engineering studies (specifically, Statics, Mechanics of Materials) and for students taking math classes in middle school and high school. As a history professional, I have always embraced the rules for historians espoused by Pope Leo XIII, who stated: "The first law of history is to dread uttering a falsehood; the next is not to fear stating the truth; lastly, the historian's writings should be open to no suspicion of partiality or animosity." In keeping with those rules, I have encouraged students of history to approach topics with and open mind; to conduct in-depth investigations; to explore from multiple perspectives; and to accept conclusions.I believe that students are more likely to take an interest in a historical subject if they have some connection to the topic. Therefore, I have encouraged students to research their own family history and then make connections.

I enjoy teaching and helping students learn. It is always rewarding to see someone who may have been frustrated or had trouble with a certain topic begin to really understand and succeed in that area. I believe that continuing education and learning can only better a person.I took AP calculus BC in high school and went on to earn my Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in mathematics and psychology at Evangel University in Springfield, MO. I then completed my Master of Science degree in statistics at The University of Akron. I grew up tutoring and helping friends and family with math. While in graduate school I tutored undergraduate students in statistics and taught statistics labs. In the fall of 2016 I taught an undergraduate statistics course at The University of Akron and had 70 students. While I have the most experience tutoring and teaching statistics, I am comfortable teaching almost any topic in math. I am also comfortable teaching any age group. I like to use various examples, hands-on activities, and as many visuals as possible, rather than just reading off formulas or having students memorize definitions. I've found that it is also helpful to give students scenarios and examples that incorporate topics or hobbies they enjoy. In my experience, and despite what some people may initially believe, it is usually very easy to help students visualize math concepts or provide memorable activities that can make the topics seem less overwhelming and/or confusing. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I play piano, I love animals, and I enjoy most sports.

Learning should be enjoyable and accessible to everyone. I understand though that classes can move faster than our individual pace. It's easy to get lost or feel like you will never catch up. Personally, I have come to believe that knowledge is available to everyone, given the right opportunity and timing. I have been working as a Montessori teacher for seven years. I completed my training at MIRTC in Girona in 2018. This training prepared me to assist learners with their individual needs. Montessori is all about observation and response. A lesson is based on a student's ability and experience. In the past, I worked with 3-6 year old children for four years as a lead guide (aka teacher in Montessori). One of the most enjoyable things about this experience was watching the children develop confidence and independence. On a good day, the children could practice their work as shown while the teachers hang back to observe their progress. Seeing young children jump into reading at four years old is such a joy. In Morocco, I was lead teacher in a classroom of 6-9 students. This was a completely different experience, with the added challenge of a language barrier. Many children were only beginning English speakers, while the classroom was meant to function in English. With the help of a great assistant, the group really group up over our two years together. On this platform, I expect to tutor in various areas of mathematics. I would enjoy helping others in beginning reading skills or English as a foreign language.

Communicating effectively, verbally and in written form, increases confidence and a desire to succeed. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio. I also have an A.S. in Veterinary Technology from Kent State University. I have spent my career teaching primarily college freshman. I have worked at 4-year public universities, 4-year private colleges and 2-year community colleges. I enjoy teaching college freshman because I believe that the foundation that is laid in those first couple of semesters is crucial to the long-term success of students. I tutor in many different areas of biology, but I have a special interest in natural history; in other words, learning about the plants, animals, and geology of a given region that make it special. I enjoy it so much in fact that it's how I spend much of my spare time doing nature photography and hiking. I also take pleasure in flower arranging and hook latch.
