My Teaching/Tutoring Philosophy:I believe that as a teacher it is my responsibility to educate and care for the whole student. I will promote educational and personal growth in all my students.I believe that an excellent teacher integrates their curriculum and pushes students to their greatest individual potential to become a leader in the greater world.I believe that all of my students will leave me each day with a positive self-image and excitement for their learning.I believe that as an educator I will succeed with your child by keeping a well-run, respectful, and supportive learning environment.Certified in Early Childhood Education and Special Education

My BA came from John Carroll University and is in English and teaching. My Masters in the Art of Teaching came from Madonna University and is in Learning Disabilities. I have taught high school and middle school English and special education. Therefore, I am experienced in working with students of all abilities. My favorite subject to teach is English Language Arts, though I work with students oral subjects. Helping students to succeed in academics and life goals is my main motivation as a teacher. I greatly value summer enrichment. I like to ensure students learn the material by working hard, yet look at each student as an individual who may need different ways of learning and different levels of support. Some students are shy, some are outgoing; some are academically driven, and some are interested in other things. I take these aspects into account when teaching.I am presently teaching 6th grade special education at an online school. I have previously worked at "bricks-and-mortar" schools for 3 years full time and 5+ years as a substitute.Personally, I love books. Reading and talking about them is a great pleasure of mine. I also like word games and puzzles. I knit and crochet, and enjoy walking around parks with my family!
After 30 years in the corporate world, leading media and marketing departments, and working in the investment and banking industries, Mark entered teaching with a desire to be a positive influence and mentor to new generations. As a high school teacher, he has taught Marketing, Business, Professional Communications, and Leadworthy, an initiative designed for students with a goal to build up a community of remarkable leaders. Nicknamed "Mister Mark" by the thousands of students he has influenced, he is certified to teach Marketing, Speech, Business, Finance, Social Studies, and English Language Arts and Reading. He is technologically innovative but also uses old school methodologies such as Socratic teaching to encourage and model critical thinking in his students. An avid songwriter, guitar player, and animator, "Mister Mark" brings an array of tools to his classroom.
Students are the resource upon which our future depends and it is important to ensure that they receive the best education possible. However, learning and teaching is a two way street. The teacher must be prepared and must enthuse the student and the student must be willing to learn and put in the necessary effort to absorb the material. If these conditions are met the process will be rewarding for both the teacher and the student.I enjoy teaching about the wonders of biology, the intricacies of history, and seeing the excitement of students as they learn new things. I continually read about science and study biology, genetics, history, philosophy. I am Board Certified in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. I belong to the Civil War Round Table of Kansas City, various Philosophy Clubs, a Science group, and am sponsor of a group called American History Enthusiasts. A teacher must also be a student. As a former practicing plastic and reconstructive surgeon I have gained a practical knowledge of anatomy, physiology, patient care and the art of dealing with patients and their families. I taught surgery residents and nurses about operative techniques and patient care. This background nicely translates into my ability to teach and relate to students and their families.I am patient, laid back, humorous, and can establish a rapport with people of any age. I prepare diligently for each session that I teach and make certain my student understands the material. Each session must be rewarding to both student and teacher.
I have been teaching high school English for the past 14 years. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from John Carroll University, with a degree in English. I also have a master's degree in Education from Marygrove College. I look forward to a productive tutoring experience.
I have a BA in English Lit. at John Carroll University as well as a certification in TESOL. I tutor anything English and especially reading related which is my favorite subject to teach! I was never a fan of reading as a kid but it is something I've come to love and wish I didn't miss out on. I believe the reason people might hate reading is because they either fear it or find it boring, but you never know until you try! There are so many books out there that can take you to another world and be your escape. I love to read, swim, run, draw but also watching and discovering animes not yet watched are a new found love of mine. I look forward to hear from you all soon about needing help with your reading and writing!

I am a current Sophomore and aspiring Education Major with a subject area in Integrated Social Studies. I attend John Carroll University where I study as well as gain teaching/ tutoring experience through the Education program and weekly service through a group called We the People. It was in We the People that I truly developed my love for teaching and assisting kids. Likewise, I have a background in US Government/ Social Studies for Elementary and Middle School Ages. Furthermore, I would love to tutor social studies. In addition, I have a strong foundation in Elementary and Middle School math. Lastly, I am available for assistance in struggles with the ACT Standardized Test. It is an important assessment in the college process and I would love to help students seeking a higher score. Education is my passion, and I intend to make learning fun and interesting for others!
I started teaching and tutoring as a retail employee in Cleveland, teaching people how to use the technology I sold. From there, I worked in the Writing Center at John Carroll, then taught composition. I taught composition while in graduate school at UW-Milwaukee, and I spent a considerable amount of time teaching technology - in a sense - through a customer service job at a big cell-phone company. I taught 5th grade in Chicago Public Schools, worked as a substitute teacher in CPS, and finally moved into a middle-school science and reading position in the northwest suburbs, where I recently began my 10th year as a classroom teacher. I love to teach, and I think that my teaching experience is diverse enough to make virtually any subject - and any audience - within reach. My favorite areas, though, are those that are fundamental to everything else (in my opinion) - reading and writing. I finished a Masters in Reading Education at Olivet Nazarene University, and I am also a certified Reading Specialist. I hope to eventually pursue a doctorate and advanced research into the complex and changing intersections between literacy and technology. To me, this is the most practical and relevant area that I can focus on, and it also happens to fit my passions and my strengths. I love to write, and I love to teach writing because of what it helps me learn about my students and about writing itself.

I am a firm believer that "success" equates to diligent preparation meeting opportunity. Whether it be academically, athletically, personally, or professionally, I believe the values I pass on will translate far beyond the classroom and aid in creating a well rounded person. I graduated from John Carroll University this past May (2015) majoring in History with minors in Economics and Foreign Affairs. After working numerous internships in both the Real Estate (Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices) and Hospitality (Bar 25 LLC, McNulty's Bier Markt) industries, I currently work at JP Morgan Chase full time as an Operations Analyst in a two year, rotational/developmental program through the firms various lines of business. I aim to continue my career in business before eventually recognizing my dream of becoming an entrepreneur. I tutor numerous subjects including AP subjects tests, standardized test preparation, and personal areas of expertise such as History, Latin, and business disciplines. I highly enjoy tutoring History to all levels as it allows me to share a deep rooted passion with others. My tutoring/teaching experiences include acting as a TA throughout college, developing professional recruitment programs specializing in talent retention, and serving as a volunteer member of JP Morgan Chase's Analyst Recruitment efforts by teaching updated recruitment methods. My interests outside of work and professional development include all things Cleveland (specifically Cleveland sports teams), restauranteering, training/athletics, and travel. Although I undoubtedly work hard, I have been mentored and aided by some pretty incredible people- I hope to pass on those teachings and mentorship to my students.
