Hi, I'm Dr. Katie! I am an elementary school teacher and university professor of education. I have my Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and a specialty in reading, writing, and social studies education. I have a Grades 1-8 Teaching License In Ohio. I LOVE tutoring online! It amazes me how quickly I can get to know a student and help them grow in their content areas. I believe learning should be fun and personal. All students can learn when they are given the right environment.

I am currently a full-time faculty member of the Biological and Physical Sciences department at Columbus State Community College where I teach Anatomy and Physiology as well as basic human biology courses. In addition to my academia, I am also a practicing chiropractic physician. My two professions allow me to have a well-rounded view and philosophy on teaching that encompasses clinical relevance of basic science classes. I graduated from Marietta College in 2011, with a Bachelor of the Arts in Political Science and a minor in French. For the past four years I have worked with community organizing non-profits in Ohio and, briefly, in Florida. In my spare time, I developed my own curriculum to pursue studies in International Conflict Resolution, which I will be studying this Fall at American University. I worked as a tutor during my time at Marietta, where I focused on helping those studying French and Political Science. I also worked extensively with the writing center, as writing consultant, and in our Communications Department, as a speech coach. I believe in working with students in a way that empowers them to build their own skills- an approach with an eye on long term sustainability and skill development. I think that it is important to be able to find fun in the learning process and I try to incorporate that in all of my sessions. My main hobby is learning, but outside of that I love to be out doors. I often go running or hiking in the area and I try to read every day. For a few weekends each year, I also act a judge for public speaking tournaments throughout the state.

I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I was a teaching assistant at Columbia University in my department and also have tutored graduate students and undergraduates privately as well. I am a rising sophomore at Harvard College and am about to declare as a Mechanical Engineering concentrator, working towards a Bachelor of Science degree. I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with my peers and those around me and have done so in both formal and informal settings. I'm Solange - a recent graduate from Harvard where I studied Sociology & Women's Studies. I am a junior Mechanical Engineering major at Yale, and I hope to become a Naval Aviator after college. I am also a varsity sailor, and enjoy playing music with friends when I can get some free time. I am an aspiring applied mathematician, with particular interest in image processing and climate science. I graduated in May 2017 from Washington University in St. Louis with a bachelor's in physics and mathematics, and am beginning a PhD program in September 2017 at the University of Chicago in Computational and Applied Mathematics. I've tutored introductory physics students for three years and enjoyed it thoroughly, as a chance to help other students while revisiting fundamental concepts to enhance my own knowledge. I am exploring my creativity by pursuing a double major in Asian Languages and Cultures with a focus in Korean, studying abroad in South Korea as a Benjamin A. I am currently a senior at Harvard College where I study chemistry, and I'll be attending Columbia Medical School next year. I have years of experience tutoring college students in math (mostly calculus) and chemistry including both general and organic chemistry. In addition, I am very familiar with all sections of the SAT and ACT having prepared several high school students for these tests. I am a graduate of McGill University (BA First Class Honors) and the University of Edinburgh (MSc First Class Honors with Distinction) with over eight years of tutoring experience. I am an aspiring physician, I believe that there are many parallels between the two fields of medicine and education that would enable me to provide a unique and meaningful perspective to the classroom. Medicine demands effective education through teaching patients and their families about specific treatments, the manifestation of certain diseases, and the mechanisms of infection within specific physiological pathways. I truly began to appreciate this after interacting with my own pediatrician, who had built her own clinic from the ground-up using her knowledge, the power of education, and the strength of connection. Concerned parents entered the visiting room with coughing and crying parents and emerged with their worries assuaged and feeling more empowered knowing how to take care of their child. This considered, it is vital for every physician to become properly trained to handle these responsibilities: to be effective communicators and leaders, to dissect complex concepts into manageable chunks, and to serve as beacons of support to those seeking his or her support. This is why I want to become an educator before I embark on my medical school journey because I know that, without valuing this integral yet often disregarded facet of medicine, I will not be able to provide the best care possible to my patients. Diagnosis demands more than medicine - it requires care, attention and compassion. These skills, although may be taught in tandem with classroom lectures, can be more fully appreciated through connection and service. I am a licensed attorney in Illinois who primarily represents children in guardianship disputes as the Guardian ad Litem as well as low-income clients in a myriad of housing and family law related cases.
