I'm an archaeology PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania with extensive teaching experience at the college level. I've taught at Penn, University of the Sciences, and Methodist University in various social sciences, including anthropology, sociology, statistics, public health, and psychology. As a teacher, I'm guided by the idea that what I'm doing with students should be useful to them long-term. Making topics interesting, relevant, and accessible is of paramount importance because it allows students to hone skills that they'll use for the rest of their lives. Teaching is fun for me because I love getting to facilitate and witness my students' breakthroughs. There's nothing better than getting to that eureka moment!
I graduated last spring from Kenyon College with a double major in Spanish Area Studies and International Development Studies. While at Kenyon, I worked as a peer tutor at the College's Writing Center to help students with invention strategies as well as the content and structure of academic and non-academic projects. As a tutor, I particularly enjoy helping students refine their personal voice and better their ability to communicate through the written word. While at Kenyon, I also worked for two years as a Spanish teaching assistant, leading language and culture lessons with beginning-level students three times per week. I spent my junior year abroad in Santiago, Chile at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. As a language-learner and teacher, I'm aware of what areas of the Spanish language are most difficult for English speakers and how to effectively navigate challenging concepts. In addition to leading larger groups of students, I also tutored individuals who were struggling in the classroom. In high school, I was a National Merit Scholar and National AP Scholar, and I am very familiar with test preparation strategies for the Reading and English portions of these exams. My personal teaching philosophy is that every student deserves a study strategy that adapts to their own needs, strengths and abilities. This fall, I'll begin a PhD program in Sociology focusing on Latino immigration to the United States. Next spring, I will teach English in an Argentine university through the Fulbright program. In my free time, I enjoy reading, riding my bike and playing music.
My first teaching experience was helping my little brother with math homework and reading reports. Since then, I've always had an interest in education. With tutoring, students have the opportunity to work more closely with an instructor than in the classroom. They can ask more questions, focus on particular goals, and learn at their own pace. As a student and a teacher, I have found that everyone learns differently, and I strive to create an environment suited to the learning style of all students.I have a Bachelor's Degree in Classics from Kenyon College. Most of my education was focused on languages, concentrating primarily on Greek, Russian, German, and Sanskrit. I also studied sociology, economics, and music. After graduation, I lived in Prague for three years, where I received TEFL certification and taught classes ranging from private students to 10-person groups. I also worked as a proofreader and transcriber. I am passionate about education, especially in the humanities, but I am well versed in mathematics. I believe in creating a comfortable learning environment that focuses on the needs of the student.
As a recent graduate from Kenyon College with a Bachelor's degree in German and History, I am passionate about fostering a love for language and history in my students. With over 1 year of experience as a German teaching assistant, I have successfully guided college students from their first German phrases to more complex discussions on topics like climate change. My teaching philosophy centers on active engagement and tailored lesson plans that cater to individual learning styles. I believe that by connecting with students through shared experiences, I can inspire them to pursue their academic goals with confidence. Additionally, my history background equips me to support students in developing strong analytical and writing skills.
Hello! I'm Erintrude, a recent graduate of Kenyon College and an MFA candidate at NCSU. I have two years of experience tutoring elementary level reading and writing for two different families, and miscellaneous tutoring experience in the fields of French, English and Test Prep (SAT and ACT). As a co-founder and head editor of a publishing press at my college, for a year and a half I have run workshops where I assigned contemporary literature, and taught these pieces to deepen reader's comprehension. Currently I am teaching a class of high schoolers in a summer program offered by the publishing press. I have experience with World Literature and translation studies as well. I'm passionate about language and I'm passionate about understanding. I tailor my teaching to the student, and in that sense we grow together in an environment of patience, support, and love for learning.
In May I graduated from Kenyon College summa cum laude and was inducted into the academic society of Phi Beta Kappa. While in school I delighted in learning anything new and in sharing that knowledge with those around me. I worked in Kenyons Writing Center for two years, tutoring my fellow students in writing across disciplines. I love helping others improve academically, and even though I have left the collegiate environment of Kenyon, I wish to continue sharing knowledge. I am honored to be able to help children and young adults succeed in academia and know the gratification of good grades, a good score, or simply a lesson well learned. I encourage my students to see the opportunities learning presents, and I help them use their unique skills and gifts to approach learning in their own way, at their own pace, with whatever assistance they need.
I am a certified tutor in English Language Arts and writing. During my time at Kenyon College, I worked as a teaching aide for high school creative writing students as well as a resume/cover letter editor, where I support students in one-on-one counseling sessions to develop written arguments and concise phrasing. I am most passionate about writing and supporting students' ideas through engaging and thoughtful questions. I am a strong line editor and am eager to help students communicate their ideas. In my experience preparing for standardized testing, I have been able to best support students by encouraging their strategic thinking and creatively applying their strengths to the challenges they are struggling with. I am most familiar with the SAT reading/writing section and the AP Literature or Language test, but I am also able to support students in developing reading and writing skills to approach the ACT as well. Every student can find the words to communicate their ideas if given the right tools, and I love being a part of that process. I would love to work with you!
My tutoring philosophy is rooted in patience, curiosity, and genuine belief in students' ability to learn. I hold a B.A. in Psychology from Southern Methodist University and am completing my final semester of an M.S. in Counseling and Development, which informs my calm, supportive, and student-centered approach. I primarily work with middle school, high school, and college students on English, literature, and writing, including reading comprehension, analytical essays, and research papers. I believe strong writing begins with conversation, and I enjoy helping students clarify ideas, build confidence, and develop strategies that work for them. I have extensive experience as a Writing Center Consultant and Student Manager, tutoring students across disciplines, as well as providing rubric-based feedback for grades 412. Whether we are brainstorming, revising, or starting from scratch, I aim to make learning feel manageable, collaborative, and empowering.
I am a graduate of Kenyon College. I majored in International Studies and Economics, concentrating in Environmental Studies. In college, I volunteered at an elementary school, helping students with difficulties in a low-income school. I also participated on the Model UN team. Since graduation, I worked in Iceland for a few months and then spent two years in the Peace Corps in Nicaragua. I taught natural science and environmental studies to primary school students, as well as supported students and teachers in all other subject areas, especially math. I worked with students of all ages and abilities. I also taught community English classes at night. I am fluent in Spanish and love helping other people learn the language. Learning another language well is one of the most useful skills you can acquire and I think it is important for everyone to take advantage of this opportunity.I have been tutoring fellow students since I was in middle school. I love the moment when a student finally understands a difficult concept for the first time, especially when they feel they discovered it themselves. I personally increased my ACT score by 5 points through self-study and love to coach others through the test. I consider myself a patient and helpful tutor. I am a strong writer and enjoy offering my suggestions and editing others' essays and papers. Outside of school and work, I enjoy reading, politics, anything to do with Latin America, hiking, and running half marathons.
