Hi! I am a proud graduate of Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music. I majored in musical theatre (voice primary/piano secondary) and minored in Spanish. I did my masters in music education at CUNY-Hunter College with an emphasis on choral music.I am very much a music nerd that love to help students understand music theory, composition, audition prep, or anything vocal/singing related. In addition to teaching, I am a professional actor (member of Actor's Equity Association) and a professor of voice for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside musical theatre program.I am here to help. I would love to be able to guide you however I can. Whether it be practical or performance based, I have your music needs covered.

I am a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University's Physician Assistant Program where I earned my Master of Medical Science. Following graduation, I achieved passing the Physician Assistant National Certification Exam (PANCE), upholding my programs 100% first-time PANCE pass rate for the sixth year in a row. Previous to this, I earned a Bachelor of Science from Western Michigan University. I have always had a passion for teaching as well as medicine. Using my experience passing a rigorous PA program as well as PANCE, I am confident that the tools I utilized will lead other students to success. I also acknowledge that each student is an individual who has different study habits and tools that lead them to success thus far and therefore, these should be implemented into a study plan that we will create together. I am a firm believer in individualized study plans and practice questions leading to success. I know these students have already achieved a great deal passing their rigorous physician assistant programs and believe they have the dedication and knowledge needed to achieve passing the PANCE as well. I am merely here to help make their dream of earning their well-deserved "C"(for certified) a reality.
I set high expectations for students and encourage them to reach their full potential! I look for ways to engage students in activities that appeal to their multiple intelligences and make them excited about learning - I am always excited about learning and love to share that positive attitude toward lessons and assignments! It is important to me as a teacher to value my student's input. There must be an opportunity for them to ask questions that support their learning. Not only does this allow my students to demonstrate metacognition, but they can continuously reflect on how they can improve. This is crucial when a student is studying a topic they have little interest in and have met with little success. I understand that my role as their teacher is to look for ways for them to improve - and that's when I share all the tools and tricks learned over 16 years in the classroom and 7 years as a tutor! No two students learn in the same way. It is my job as a professional to engage that student's spark of curiosity which will lead to a lifelong love of learning!
It is my belief that in order to teach one must be willing to perpetually learn, and the starting point of learning is humility. As Socrates famously states, "the only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." Once we realize our position we can truly make progress. Tutoring is all about patience, diligence, and encouragement. I am serious about my work, but I feel it is important to keep the mood light at times and build a solid rapport. It was during graduate school when I discovered my passion for tutoring. As a graduate assistant I tutored undergraduate students in deductive logic. The next step was volunteering for group called Seeds of Literacy and helping students prepare for the GED test. At this point I realized that tutoring was something I really enjoyed, and I began my professional tutoring career. I've been going strong for almost seven years. Most of my experience is with math, writing, and standardized test-prep, but I've done a bit of everything over the years. Additionally, I am comfortable with the social and natural sciences. In terms of ages I am best suited for the high school and college levels, although I do enjoy helping with younger students, too.I attended Baldwin Wallace College for my undergraduate degrees in economics and philosophy and Cleveland State University for graduate degree coursework in philosophy. Aside from the degrees I took a variety of courses including mathematics, logic, psychology, comparative religion, and the natural sciences. Nowadays I still read philosophy, especially the works of Plato and Kierkegaard. Other intellectual pursuits include studying ancient history (typically deep antiquity) as well as some cosmology, astronomy, and physics.I enjoy traveling, and I've been around Europe a few times, Mexico twice, visited Egypt once (easily my favorite trip), and a variety of trips here in the US. Travel is a wonderful activity not only for the sites and history one witnesses but also the cultures and individuals encountered -- most importantly, these things give us deeper perspective on ourselves and afford the opportunity for self-reflection and growth. That's ultimately what it's all about: improving ourselves, achieving our goals, and helping others. In my opinion, tutoring perfectly embodies these principles and any good tutor will constantly strive for these ideals with every student.
My background is in international health and research. I currently work at a non-profit in New York City and I believe the best way to demonstrate your command over a subject is to be able to successfully communicate and teach that information to someone else. My hobbies and interests include global public health, research, traveling to different countries, running long distances, baking, and spending time with family.
I am a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University (formerly Baldwin-Wallace College) in Ohio, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in English. I specialized in Early Modern British Literature and have strengths in grammar and composition as well. I thoroughly enjoy helping students understand that while literature is often written in a style that can be hard to understand, it touches on experiences and emotions that are common to us all. While all students have different learning styles, they also all have the ability to learn and enjoy education. Particularly in the global society, education and the ability to think critically are essential foundations for success in high school, college, and beyond. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, biking, kayaking, racquetball, all Pittsburgh sports, and spending time with my wife and family.
I love meeting people from other countries and help them learn to communicate effectively in English. Students should never feel shame or judgement about their academic aptitude. An exemplary tutor possesses the understanding that all learners need to progress at their own individual pace. I enjoy the specialized attention I am able to give my students in a tutoring setting. We accomplish goals much quicker when lessons can be personalized and interruptions are non existent. My career spans from the collegiate level as a certified Reading Specialist to experience as an elementary teacher for grades K- 8 .
