In May of 2015 I received a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Psychology from the University of Cincinnati. August of 2017 I received a Master of Science in Medical Science from the University of Kentucky. I currently work doing research on Gaucher Disease. I have been tutoring/teaching in some form for the last 10 years, working with children and adults of all ages. Previously I have spent 4 years as an instructional assistant/assistant band director. During this time I was afforded the opportunity to get to work one on one with many different types of students. I taught a class of 30 middle school students 6 periods of the day where I worked with them on increasing their math and reading skills. After school I would tutor grades 6 through 12 mostly in math and science. I also gave private music lessons after school. I have experience working with special needs students and have worked as a sensory motor coach for children ages 3 to 18 with development and sensory disorders. My favorite subjects to tutor are math and science but I am comfortable tutoring many different subjects. I like being able to see to help the student make connections from the subject material to their own lives. When tutoring I like to make sure the student is involved in the process. I like to ask them questions about the material and to help them draw out and visualize the solution. Every student learns differently and I feel they do better when they can personally relate to the material and find a connection to their own life. In my spare time I enjoy playing music, painting, reading, rock climbing and spending time with my family.

For the past six years, I've worked as a private nanny and tutor for several families in the Cincinnati area. I have experience with kids ranging in age from 5 through 17. As expected when working with such a broad range of age groups, I've also covered a variety of subject matter, from elementary reading to AP biology.Fortunately, helping kids achieve their best in school afforded me the opportunity to pursue my own education. I graduated cum laude from University of Cincinnati in 2015 with my Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. Because of my background in the sciences, my favorite subjects to tutor are the life sciences, especially biology; however, I also have experience working with students in English and reading, both as general subjects and in preparation for the ACT.If there's one life lesson that my college career taught me, it's the importance of critical thinking not only for success in the classroom, but success in life beyond the classroom as well. I try to encourage the use of critical thinking and analytical skills in all of my tutoring sessions to challenge students to utilize the knowledge they already have to come up with answers they may be unsure about originally. This ensures that students fully comprehend the subject matter, so that they aren't just memorizing and regurgitating for a test. This style of teaching also allows me to really engage even the shyest of students, and most importantly, have fun!When I'm not teaching kids the importance of thinking outside the box, I really enjoy being active and working out. In high school, I played basketball and volleyball competitively, which carried over into a lifelong love of fitness and health. Somewhat contradictorily, I also love cooking (and eating), and will be participating in a recreational Culinary Certificate course at Cincinnati State in the fall. Not to be a total cliche, but my third favorite hobby is traveling. In college, I spent nine weeks backpacking through Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. My next trip on the books is to Austin, Texas, to experience the Austin City Limits Music and Cultural Festival. If I'm not cooking at home, eating a strange food on a foreign continent, or trying to work off the calories from both those endeavors, you can usually find me hanging out at the dog park with my border collie.

Starting my undergraduate career, I really struggled with the material. I thought I wasn't smart enough to learn the math and physics required for my degree. This all changed when I took my intermediate physics class and met the lab instructor. He showed me that it's okay to fail and what I was feeling was normal, especially in a field like physics. He gave me the confidence to keep perusing my degree and in December 2023, I received my BA in astrophysics from University of Cincinnati. This is where my love for teaching started. When I started tutoring students, I noticed a lot struggled with the confidence to keep going and to ask for help. I aspire to be like my lab instructor: patient and kind. My favorite subject to tutor is physics and math. They are beautiful in their own right and I have found that schools fail to show this. Students usually hate math and science because of the way it is taught. I strive to change the narrative that math and physics are impossible subjects which can never be learned. My philosophy with teaching is driven by making the student the teacher. I believe that for one to know a subject completely, they have to be able to teach it. I always make sure my students are able to both solve a problem on their own while also having the ability to explain how. With prior students, I have found this to be the best way to ingrain a concept into a student's long term memory, ensuring that they will understand the concept long after the test is taken. Outside of academia, I enjoy playing the violin and playing video games with my friends. I have played the violin for 15 years and I love making music. Playing videos games after a long day helps me decompress. I find that taking this break has been essential to making sure I am focuses throughout the day while also making sure I don't burn myself out.

I just enjoy the ideas behind it and understand it very well.My tutoring philosophy really stems from trying to get the most out of the student, whatever that may look like.Some of my hobbies are family time (2 boys), woodworking, electronics and a good story.

I enjoy learning and I enjoy facilitating others to learn.With the help of my mentor, I began teaching martial arts at the age of 12.This early experience has given me a knack for breaking apart difficult concepts and making them comprehensible. By encouraging and inspiring students to become actively involved, we find our way in overcoming real life challenges, and when the going gets tough. My vision as a teacher: encourage students to embrace study, and to acquire self-confidence through academic success.Together we focus on our really important task at hand; that is getting high marks.All of this we seek while enjoying the educational journey, and most importantly while working towards a better life.
