I first started tutoring students my second semester of college on the campus in the Spanish department. I also obtained tutoring from the French department where I learned many different techniques of tutoring. Thanks to the students I have tutored, I am now able to think of many new ways to teach students since everyone have a unique way of learning.Outside of tutoring I like to spend time with my friends, surrounding myself with great company and engage in adventurous activities.

I am a graduate of Denison University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, with minors in Spanish and music performance. Throughout high school and college, I have been tutoring my peers in Spanish, English, philosophy, math and even music theory. I have also tutored adults in GRE subjects. Since graduation I have been helping Spanish-speaking children in DC with their English and working at a lobbying firm. I tutor in a variety of subjects, focusing on Spanish, English, Math and Standardized Tests. I tutor in a fun, competitive and encouraging style, often comparing learning to reaching a new benchmark in a sport, or leveling up in a video game. I spend most of my free time playing soccer, singing and playing chess.
I am a recent graduate of Denison University with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology. While attending Denison I tutored many other students in Biology and Calculus, two subjects which I am passionate about! However, I am also able to tutor a wide variety of math and science courses. Education is incredibly important to ensuring a successful future, so I try and set students up to succeed with unique learning opportunities that bring the joy back to learning! In my free time, I enjoy working out, listening to music, and am currently training for a marathon in October!

With two years one-on-one tutoring experience and training in academic writing and test prep, I'm ready to help with your last-minute term paper crisis or your SAT/ACT stress. I am a senior at Denison University majoring in History and concentrating on American history, so I'm just the right person to help you find strategies and tools for your APUSH test, government paper, or social studies assignment.I know firsthand how overwhelming high-stakes tests or papers can feel, so I care deeply about helping students break down goals into manageable steps. I'm committed to finding the best strategies to fit each student's particular needs, so I make sure to put in plenty of prep time for each student. These tests and essays are important, but they don't have to be overwhelming - a little bit of guidance can go a long way in helping students feel prepared and confident.I also have a second major in Theater, which gives me lots of practice in communication and people skills. I'm also ready to be a resource in drama studies, public speaking, Shakespeare, and more.I'm going into my third year as a Writing Tutor and Consultant at my university's on-campus writing center, where I work with students to improve the organization, clarity, and effectiveness of their writing. I can consult on anything from a chemistry lab report to a political science paper to an application essay and resume.I was fortunate to receive great guidance when I was taking high school history years ago. I had caring mentors who helped me learn the strategies that helped me earn 5s and 4s on five different social studies AP tests. I'm passionate about sharing these tools with current students. AP tests can seem overwhelming, but with a little practice, students can quickly realize that they have more skills than they thought.I have wide availability while I'm home for the summer, so don't hesitate to reach out for help with writing, history, and English.
As a graduate with a Bachelor's in Psychology and Biology from Denison University, I bring a unique perspective to my tutoring approach. With over two years of experience in both classroom and tutoring settings, I specialize in Elementary School English, Reading, and Writing, as well as Middle and High School English. I also have experience with elementary school math and science. My philosophy centers on fostering a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to express themselves and develop their skills. I am passionate about helping students discover the joy of reading and writing, tailoring my methods to meet their individual needs and learning styles. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, taking long walks, and spending time with my friends, which helps to further connect with my students.
I attended Denison University in Ohio where I earned a B.A. in psychology, summa cum laude, with a minor in music performance (trumpet). I was a department fellow and tutor, primarily working with psychology and writing students, and also worked as a stage manager in the music department. After college, I headed to The Ohio State University where I earned a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology with a specialization in college teaching. While I was a graduate student, I taught general psychology and ACT prep courses and scored ACT and SAT writing exams. Thanks to my education, I am an expert in psychology, reading, writing, and general scientific literacy. As a teacher and a tutor, I have worked with students ranging from children to doctoral degree candidates. I like tutoring students individually because it allows me to tailor my approach to each student in a way that I could never do in a classroom. Outside of my work, I enjoy listening to music, bicycling, cooking, and occasionally playing my trumpet.
Hello students! My name is Kyle and I am a lifelong San Diegan. I currently attend Denison University in Ohio where I major in Political Science. I've had plenty of experience writing college application essays, as well as helping fellow students with their own essays. In addition, I feel that I can offer much needed clarity and advice about the college admissions process, from crafting your resume to nailing your college interview. Besides tutoring writing, I have a passion for civics and love teaching government, especially since I have had real-world experience working on political campaigns. Every AP student I have tutored, in english, history and government, has passed their exams with a three or higher. I am very proud of this fact and I look forward to having you as my student!
Dr. A has been a teacher and researcher for over 30 years. He has studied genetics, physiology, ecology, marine biology, hydroponics, statistics, and GIS in that time. He enjoys sharing his love of science and the scientific method for those learning biology, preparing for college, graduate school, or their own scientific research. He attended Denison University, Miami University (Ohio), and the University of Oklahoma. He has taught at the university level as well as high school.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Denison University. I am currently pursuing an M.D. at Case Western Reserve University. I've been a college-level teaching assistant for both introductory biology and general chemistry. Besides chemistry, I really enjoy tutoring for test prep (ACT and MCAT) because I view these types of tests to be a collection of puzzles to solve. It's a lot of fun helping students to figure out the logic behind these puzzles and apply it broadly, and it's incredibly rewarding to see this integration of knowledge translate to a high score. When working with students, I like to challenge them to identify the purpose of the problem or question and what underlying reasoning can be applied broadly in future questions. In doing so, students gain more long-term usable skills and the ability to think independently.
I received my BA in English/Creative Writing from Denison University in Ohio where I also minored in Theatre. I am currently attending Long Island University/Hudson Campus. Here I am earning my Masters in Secondary Education (English, which I will be finishing at the end of this semester. Then I will be finishing up an Advanced Certificate in Literacy 5-12.I have been consistently teaching since sophomore year in high school when I designed and taught an Earth Science curriculum at a local nature center for a number of years. Since then, I've tutored Earth Science, taught Sunday School, tutored my peers through college, and am currently completing my student teaching at Rye Neck Middle School. At Rye Neck, I am teaching five sections of 6th Grade ELA Skills to children with a wide range of skills. I have also taught basic English Language lessons to Spanish speakers who want to learn English. I also have experience working with Autistic children.I offer tutoring services in English, specifically reading comprehension, writing, editing, test-taking skills, and test prep in English-based areas. I love teaching reading and writing because these are most often the areas that students claim to hate. Slowly, I can get students to realize the worlds that reading and writing can open up for them and they begin to love these things that they once hated. My teaching style is conversation based and filled with the Socratic Method. I believe in not handing a student the answer. Rather we can work through the problem until the student realizes the answer themselves. This leads the student to take great pride in their schoolwork and to have the processes in place to solve the problem on their own in the future. Students are always smarter than they think they are, they just need to learn the ways of studying and learning that work best for them. A teacher is merely a guide until the student can teach themselves. For this reason, I am a great believer in scaffolding, or providing a lot of support in the beginning and drawing away slowly until the student can master the work on their own.Outside of academia, you can find me doing one of three things usually (or trying to do them all at once fairly unsuccessfully): writing, reading, and directing theatre. I write a mixture of poetry or fiction and my reading tastes run from older British literature to Stephen King. Theatre, whether I'm watching or participating, is a huge passion of mine. I love creating world and characters and these three mediums allow me to do that in very unique ways.
I've been a tutor and Mandarin Chinese teacher for five years and have taught every type of student from Elementary school-age to adults at the Beginner level to International Baccalaureate prep courses. My own language background comes from living in China and attending the Beijing Foreign Studies University and Taiwan University. What I love most about tutoring is the unique opportunity that the one-on-one setting provides to ensure that you or your student really masters the content in the lesson in all four aspects of language learning (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing). In addition to helping you achieve your course objectives, I am most interested in having students take risks and show motivation in their own language learning. You'll surprise yourself at how well you can communicate in Mandarin!
I'm a grad student pursuing a PhD in Ecological Psychology at UConn, and in my free time I write music and perform with my band. Let me help you get from the first to the last panel of an expanding brain meme! I have a BA in Psychology with minors in Philosophy and Music Performance from Denison University (in Ohio, my home state). For the last four years I've been teaching statistics, research methodology, writing, and intro psych to college students while I work on my doctorate. I believe teaching is all about enabling personal growth. Nobody is born great, but anybody can become great with practice, patience, and a bit of guidance.
I enjoy teaching students of all ages. I graduated from Denison University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Creative Writing. I have gained thorough knowledge in Math, English, and Information Technology via the experiences I have had in tutoring students at elementary, middle school, high school, and college levels all over the world. In particular, I have worked extensively with students to develop and hone their writing skills for tests, college application essays, and academic papers. I am also well-versed in test preparation such as SAT and ACT exam preparation. When tutoring math, I have several different techniques that cater to a variety of students, but overall, I like to keep concepts simple and fun to learn. Repetition, flash cards, worksheets and practice tests are my main materials for helping students learn. My tutor sessions typically start with going over the student's current coursework, where they are struggling, and most importantly what they expect from me. From there, it is critical to plan out an organized schedule that will lead the student down the best path of success. I look forward to working with all of you and supporting you in your own journey of discovery!
I am a recent doctoral graduate with over 4 years of biological science teaching experience and 3 years French tutoring experience. As a tutor, I believe in making information more relatable so that students can better understand the material.
I am a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in English. During my time at Denison, I served as a consultant in the Writing Center, where I worked with my peers on papers for all subject areas. I also competed on the Moot Court team. Since graduation, I have served as a coach and mentor in many different capacities: for three years, I served as a assistant director of a nonprofit where I regularly trained 75 different community leaders to effectively communicate on local issues, and for the past five years, I've served as the coordinator for New Moon Girl Media's Sister to Sister mentor program, where I work with high school and middle school aged girls on blog posts and other writing. Currently, I teach writing as a camp counselor at Thurber House Literary Center and I will soon be serving as a GTA through the Helen Zell Writers' Program at the University of Michigan. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about writing and literature. I believe that through writing and the challenge of working through and clearly communicating our ideas, we learn much more about whatever subject we are discussing. I am passionate about working with students because it was fourteen years into my education that I first encountered a teacher who waited, patiently and non-accusingly, at least 10 seconds after asking a question before calling and someone and initiating a discussion. This was transformative for me as a then-introverted college freshman and I offer this story to share why it is so personally important to me to allow students with different learning styles a range of opportunities to apply themselves. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, running, and playing the piano.

I am currently a Government Consultant who graduated from Denison University in 2019 with a BA in Political Science and an MSc from the London School of Economics in Policy in 2021. I have a passion for learning and helping others overcome their personal academic challenges. I've been tutoring students since I was 13 and I find it to be the most rewarding way to make on impact on someone's education because in every tutoring experience I've had, I grow as a tutor just as much as the tutee grows. I am very personable and I love reading and writing. My goal is to help students learn to face their struggles head on and rise above them.

Upon graduation, I joined an educational non-profit called City Year, an Americorps program where Corps members willing give up a year to serve in effort to bridge the education achievement gap. City Year works in English and Math classrooms and I have the pleasure of serving in an two adaptive math classrooms. While I'm open to tutor English and History and/or Social Studies, I am most passionate about Math. In my experience, helping struggling students think logically and developing procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, and productive disposition, we always seem to have the most fun connecting these skills to other aspect in life. In addition to this, its a pleasure seeing their confidence level boost when they answer a set number of problems correctly. Nothing warms my heart more when a student jokingly tells me, "Mister, back off, I got this." I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading that which enriches my life, binge watching my favorite tv sitcoms, hanging out with friends, and contributing to a cause greater than self.
I am a graduate of Denison University where I majored in Communications, and PPA (Politics & Public Affairs). Before college, I was enrolled in the IBDP curriculum. While I tutor in a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, History, and Writing. I have extensive experience working with children between the ages of 6-12. During college, I was a TA and worked at the Writing Center, gaining experience tutoring individuals between the ages of 18-22. I view teaching as a partnership between the instructor and the students, where dialogue and collaboration are essential. By actively involving students in their own learning, I aim to cultivate a sense of ownership over their education. I encourage students to question assumptions, explore diverse perspectives, and apply their knowledge to real-world situations. Accordingly, I employ a conversation-based teaching style for my students.
