I enjoy breaking down complex concepts into easily understandable steps, ensuring each child feels supported and capable of succeeding at their own pace. If you had asked me in middle school what my favorite subject in school was, I'd have told you, "History!" and that was closely followed by English. I've always loved the power of storytelling to help us to learn about the past, the present, and perhaps most importantly, ourselves. It came as no surprise to my family and friends that I chose to major in history in college. As an undergraduate, I attended Ohio State University and completed my degree at Otterbein College, a small liberal arts school in Columbus, Ohio. Not content to simply read about history and the great works of literature, I pursued my M.A. and Ph.D in American history at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where I learned to create my own stories about the past. Now that I have completed my Ph.D., I finally get to focus my attention on sharing my passion for storytelling with others. I like to work with students of all ages. I have taught courses at the college level, and I've worked with high school students as well. I have two younger brothers in middle school, so I feel especially attuned to the psyche of that age group. In order to finish my degree in history, I wrote a 400 page dissertation and completed a field of study in English. Through this experience and my classroom teaching, I am well versed in the English language and can help you or your children not only to learn history, but also how to improve their reading and writing. If like me, your aim is to attend graduate school, I can also help you to prepare for the GRE verbal. I took the GRE twice and raised my score dramatically the second time through a combination of hard work and learning smart test taking strategies. I'd love to share that knowledge with others. While I'm certainly an expert in my field, I'm very friendly and down-to-earth. In my free time, I enjoy binge watching Netflix, cooking, shopping, hiking, watching Buckeye football, exercising, and playing soccer and tennis. In their evaluations of my teaching, students consistently commented that I was "nice," approachable, understanding, and communicated information clearly. Whether you struggle to learn the subject material, to get organized with your assignments or even just motivated to complete them, I am here to help and to boost your confidence in the process!
I am currently a PhD student in BioMedical Engineering with Bachelor's degrees in Physics and Mathematics. I have 5 years tutoring experience, and would love to help you understand any topics related to Physics or Mathematics better!
I am a recent graduate of Otterbein University, where I received my bachelors degree in Physics and Mathematics. I am currently in the application process to enroll in graduate school to pursue my PHD in Condensed Matter Physics. My academic focus is in sustainable energy resources and energy storage, with aspirations to do research in the field of nuclear fusion.
