I'm a recent graduate of Case Western Reserve University with a B.A. in Biology and Cognitive Science, as well as a minor in French. I'm interested in going back to school for either environmental studies or law, but I still have some deciding to do in that regard! My tutoring experience has been varied, from helping peers with homework, assisting my young nephews and nieces with their reading and writing, to mentoring the younger students at the dance studio I used to attend. These are just some of the ways that I've learned to tutor. My favorite things to tutor are writing and algebra. Both are things that can appear complicated and difficult, but often there is only one stumbling block that a student is having a problem with. Once you isolate the issue, everything becomes simple! My tutoring style is to talk and work through a lot of practice problems together. When the student feels comfortable tackling some practice problems on their own, I know they've mastered the concept. I'm also a great listener; if you tell me that you are having a problem in a certain area of a subject, I can very much tailor the lesson and practice problems to the target area. Outside of school, I spend a lot of my time submerged in water! I love windsurfing, scuba diving, and going to the beach. I'm also a huge, huge fan of snow! When I started undegrad in 2012, I was determined to not major in any science and go against the grain of the many science/ pre-med majors in my university so I decided to major in music. Interestingly enough, I took General Chemistry 1 and failed the first exam. My neighbor, assuming I was doing well, asked me if we could study and work on homework together and I though, "Well, if I'm going to fail, might as well not do it alone." I started working on homework with her and started to realize that I learned best when I taught others! Soon, I started "tutoring" many of my other pre-med friends in the same class and aced Chemistry! I like to say whatever works best for the students works best for me! I believe the key to mastering any subject is understanding it in your own way. During our sessions, that will be one of our biggest goals, determine your learning style and how you best understand, absorb, and retain material.Outside of tutoring and my job, I love to dance! I am very into fitness and have been dancing since I was 7 years old. I was even on a competitive dance team in college! I also love trying difficult baking recipes and colored pencil portraits.

Since 2008, the bulk of my work experience has been in academia, where I was not only a competitive and accomplished student in my own right, but also provided excellent academic assistance as an undergraduate and graduate TA. In grad school, I served for three years as a co-instructor, a writing center tutor, and by leading one-on-one tutorial courses, helping hundreds of students develop and polish their essay writing skills across subjects. I have additionally worked in after-school childcare (K-5) and as a camp counselor. What this means is that, for a diverse range of age groups, I know how to help students identify their needs and hone the skills to excel on their own.

I'm a college student at Case Western Reserve University studying economics with a minor in Chinese. I enjoy helping students break down challenging subjects into simple, manageable steps so they can build real confidence in what they're learning. I primarily tutor math, including pre-algebra and algebra, but I can also support students in English, writing, history, and general study skills. My approach is patient and straightforwardI focus on making sure students understand the "why" behind each step, not just memorizing answers. I understand that every student learns differently, so I adjust my explanations based on what makes the most sense to them. My goal is to create a comfortable environment where students feel okay asking questions and working through mistakes. Whether it's homework help, test preparation, or reviewing basics, I'm here to help students feel more confident and capable in their work.
