I've always loved to read and write, so I attended Ohio University to study Creative Writing and American Literature. I graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. My professors and peers gave me critical feedback on my writing, helping me hone my editorial skills, and write clean, sharp sentences. They also introduced me to a diverse assortment of authors and poets. I continue to be inspired by literature, especially contemporary American, and am always on the lookout for a fantastic book.In 2012, I moved to Seoul, South Korea to teach English. At the time I was considering a career in education, and this was an opportunity that allowed me to give teaching a try as well as travel the world. I loved living and working abroad because there was always a new challenge, whether it was learning the Korean language or even something as simple as finding a post office. I soon found that the more I developed my teaching skills the more I enjoyed it, which led me to stay there for nearly four years. Over the course of those four years I had a variety of teaching jobs, including positions as an elementary school teacher, a middle school teacher, and a tutor for children and adults.Since returning from Seoul I have been pursuing my Ohio teaching certification. In my spare time I enjoy reading and writing, as well as exercising and taking photographs.

I am passionate about helping students succeed no matter the level!I graduated magna cum laude with a degree in English literature and writing from Ohio University in 2021, and I am currently working towards getting my master's in children's literature. If you cannot tell from my education background, my favorite subjects to tutor are all things reading and writing related! And with experience in both a preschool classroom as well as college essay writing/editing, I am able to help you or your childno matter the age!
I have a PhD (U of Cincinnati, 2008) and MA in Psychology, a BA in English, and I'm an expert in statistics, so I tutor in those subjects. I work as a college professor by day and fight crime at night. In my spare time, I enjoy sci fi, blueberries, and the odd game of enigma hopscotch (which I invented).
I set high expectations for students and encourage them to reach their full potential! I look for ways to engage students in activities that appeal to their multiple intelligences and make them excited about learning - I am always excited about learning and love to share that positive attitude toward lessons and assignments! It is important to me as a teacher to value my student's input. There must be an opportunity for them to ask questions that support their learning. Not only does this allow my students to demonstrate metacognition, but they can continuously reflect on how they can improve. This is crucial when a student is studying a topic they have little interest in and have met with little success. I understand that my role as their teacher is to look for ways for them to improve - and that's when I share all the tools and tricks learned over 16 years in the classroom and 7 years as a tutor! No two students learn in the same way. It is my job as a professional to engage that student's spark of curiosity which will lead to a lifelong love of learning!
I'm a recent college graduate with degrees in Biological Sciences and Russian from Ohio University. During my time there, I tutored students in a variety of subjects, including biology, chemistry, and Spanish. In addition, I worked as both a peer advisor and teaching assistant, which gives me insight into the learning strategies and study skills that students need to succeed. As a tutor, I like to focus on doing actual problems with students because it is the most effective way to immediately identify their strengths and weaknesses and to address them. In my free time, I like to lift weights, read books, and spend time with my friends.
As a public school teacher, I believe every child should have access to a great education and any tool necessary to help them succeed!
I am a graduate of Ohio University with a MA of Spanish which includes the study of language, linguistics, literature and culture. I am have BA of Spanish and Secondary Education from Westminster College. Since graduation, I have been a teacher of Spanish for 7 years, and in that time I have had a wide range of experiences, both teaching and tutoring Spanish, with students from elementary school to high school to adult students. For all ages, my teaching style is that of immersion. No matter the level of the student, Spanish is spoken 90% of the time. However, I use language that is simple and can easily be understood; so, in other words words that sound similar in Spanish and English and gestures to help the students grasp meaning quickly. I am a bit of a nerd so I also enjoy teaching about the culture and history of the countries that speak Spanish, and when I can, I provide a history of the language itself and how we went from Latin to Spanish. As a tutor, I am a guide rather than a giver of answers. I believe that learning happens when students can come to the correct conclusion on their own. If I instantly give answers, then what does the student learn? I also understand that seeking help is not easy, that is why I try to provide a safe zone for the student where they feel comfortable enough to ask questions and get the help they need.Learning a new language is unlike any other subject and it is a fascinating and life changing process. I love teaching Spanish because I get to see my students??? minds getting bigger and becoming more open. A language is a system of codes and symbols that help us communicate information, and by adding another language you are doubling that system and doubling the amount of information that you can communicate, and I love when students find that they have new ways of expressing themselves; they understand themselves so much more deeply and as a result they are able to understand others. Their view of the world increases because a language is inseparable from the culture and history that created it. When people are able to connect to another culture, the quality of life of everyone improves. That is why I feel learning another language, any language, is so important to our development as individuals and as a society, and why I feel so strongly about teaching it.
My name is Alisha Rivera Aquino. I am a recent college graduate with a BS in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and a minor in Spanish. I am bilingual in Spanish and English. I am a native Spanish speaker who grew up learning first Spanish, then English, and then both at the same time. I would be a great tutor for any student because of my ability to provide cultural context to my teaching, as well as accurate Spanish-speaking skills that are not learned from a textbook. Overall, my goal with all of my students is to make sure that they can learn at their own pace, and learn as much as they can about different Latinx cultures and the language itself.
I am a high school English teacher dedicated to helping students discover their potential with material in the English Language Arts realm. I believe all students deserve a chance to make true connections with the content presented to them in academic settings.
I have six years of experience in biology, math, chemistry and several other biological courses. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Ohio University and obtained my master of science degree in physiology from Case Western Reserve University. I am devoted to continuing to master biology and sharing my knowledge to bridge the gap for others that find it harder to grasp. I am patient and have a unique teaching method. In addition, I am a visual learner and translate this into my teaching pedagogy. I use drawings, diagrams, flashcards, practice exams and quizzes to communicate new knowledge to students. I am a great listener and my sole concern is to understand a student's learning gap and find tangible ways to bridge it. Outside of academia, I am a biochemist for a local pharmaceutical company that synthesize various drugs that are currently in clinical trials. I am very friendly and outgoing. I enjoy indoor rock climbing, eating sushi and shopping.
I have spent my career in the editing realm, but I hope to transition to teaching at some point in the next five to 10 years. But in the meantime, I would like to get a firm footing by tutoring struggling students.I love to teach, often helping my nephew with his math homework and occasionally Spanish and some science. I am crazy about the English language and languages in general, having studied Spanish in high school and Japanese and Italian in college. And math has always been a passion of mine.I want to pass those passions onto young minds and get them excited about learning.
I am a physician starting my professional career in Neurology at The University of Kentucky - Albert B Chandler Hospital and College of Medicine. I went to Hampton University where I earned my Bachelors of Science Degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology, and Masters Degree in Medical Science, before entering medical school at Ohio University. I am passionate about teaching and helping students achieve academically. My favorite subjects are anatomy and physiology, in particular neuro-anatomy and neuro-physiology. In my spare time, I enjoy live music, playing tennis, and public speaking.
As a dedicated educator with over eight years of experience teaching science and Spanish, I am passionate about inspiring students to achieve their fullest potential. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, a Master of Science in Chemistry from Ohio University, and a Master of Arts in the Teaching of Science. My diverse academic background equips me with a solid foundation in the sciences and effective teaching methodologies, enabling me to create engaging and impactful learning experiences. As a native Spanish speaker from Puerto Rico, I bring a unique cultural perspective to my teaching. I strive to make language learning vibrant and immersive, helping students not only grasp the mechanics of Spanish but also appreciate the rich cultural heritage behind it. My dual expertise in science and Spanish allows me to tailor lessons to meet the needs of a wide range of learners, whether they are mastering complex scientific concepts or developing fluency in a new language. My teaching philosophy centers on fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for learning. I believe that education is a transformative tool that can open doors to endless possibilities. I particularly enjoy motivating students to consider careers in science by making complex topics accessible and relatable. Seeing my students overcome challenges and grow confident in their abilities is the most rewarding part of my work.
Education is, and has always been my passion! Ever since I can remember, I have had a natural tendency and desire to share knowledge and teach others. I have over 15 years of teaching experience, and am most passionate about teaching Spanish, Math and English as a Second Language(ESL). I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at The Ohio University and my Master's Degree in Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Throughout the years, I have worked as a camp counselor/summer instructor for children between the ages of 5-12, served as a math tutor for fellow students during my undergraduate degree, and lived in Costa Rica for almost two years where I became fluent in Spanish and worked as an ESL instructor for both children and adults. During my 10 years in Chicago, I have worked as an ESL instructor for adults in various communities throughout the city, tutored students looking to complete their GED examination, and provided health education in various capacities throughout the south and west sides communities. I believe in making education fun and interactive - even when it's a topic we are not thrilled about learning. The more we learn, the more opportunities we open for ourselves and for others. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, reading, running, dancing and speaking Spanish. I also love to travel and am always looking for new places to explore and new people to meet.
I completed my Masters in Education in Literacy, making me a Literacy Specialist. I also completed my Bachelor's Degree as an Intervention Specialist K-12 and completed an additonal certification making me a Reading Specialist. I am also Orton-Gillingham certified (Course 1).I have always had a passion to teach reading since I was young, from teaching my brother how to read, to helping adults with disabilites make academic, social, and functional growth through college. After undergrad, I moved to Asia where I taught in the slums of India, orphanages in Thailand, and at an International school where I taught students K-6 from over 26 countries. I helped develop an entire Special Eduation reading curriculum from scratch and started a school among the street children I lived by. Since then, I have taught in the United States as a Reading and Intervention Specialist where I have seen several students no longer require special education after my services. I have 6 years of teaching experience. My lifelong passion is to teach students how to read effectively, and feel loved and encouraged. I strategically plan lessons to help students see the greatest level of success in all areas.
I promise to pass my enthusiasm for reading, writing, English (or Spanish), and even the nitty gritty grammar to my students. I focus on helping my students gain a deeper understanding of broad concepts rather than expecting them to merely memorize disconnected bits of information. My teaching style is to draw connections between my students' school work and their lives, and I give them the tools to discover how everything they're learning relates to the bigger picture. When they notice these connections to the real world and gain the ability to place everything they're learning into a broader context, they start to understand the importance of concepts that previously seemed pointless and arbitrary.I'm a pro at breaking difficult concepts down in a way that makes sense to my students. Often, information is presented to students in an overcomplicated way that does not connect with them or relate to their lives. This causes them to lose interest in the subject. I have a completely different approach-I use accessible language and interject helpful tips and tricks to help my students not only to remember, but to truly understand and master the topic. My approach allows my students learn about so much more than just grammar, reading, writing, English, or Spanish during our tutoring sessions. I use these subjects as a catalyst for helping them learn about themselves the world around them.As for educational credentials, I have a Bachelor's Degree in English and journalism with a minor in Spanish. I also have a Master's degree in education. I finished both degrees with a 3.9 GPA. I have experience working with students from pre-K to college undergrads as a tutor, a mentor, a camp counselor, and a teacher. When I'm not working, you can find me writing, reading, doing yoga, hula hooping, or playing my flute.
I am an expecting graduate of Ohio University in May 2017. I will receive my Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology with minors in biology and nutrition, as well as a certificate in diabetes. After graduation I plan to attend Physician Assistant School to eventually practice medicine in the field of emergency medicine or pediatrics. Throughout my academic career I have tutored a broad range of subjects including nutrition, organic chemistry, human anatomy and physiology. I am most passionate about human anatomy as I have been a teaching assistant at my university for three semesters, and will continue to do so for another two semesters. I often engage students that are stuck or unmotivated by including fun learning tools such as Jeopardy, animations, and memorable mnemonics. In my experience, remarkable improvement has been observed when students first understand fundamental concepts and then build their understanding to tie together what they are learning with the importance it has in today's society and their future careers. My goal is to perpetuate the importance of education to broaden the horizons of my students in hopes for a brighter future. Outside of academics I enjoy hiking, kayaking, playing the ukulele, and watching engaging shows on Netflix.
I am currently a graduate student at Ohio State University pursuing my Master's degree in social work. I previously attended Ohio University where I received Bachelor's degrees in Spanish and Social Work, as well as a minor in Psychology and a Certificate in Latin American Studies. During my undergraduate education, I tutored students in Spanish, psychology, and statistics courses with the library's Academic Achievement Center. Through this job, I interacted with student athletes, students with autism spectrum disorder and other accessibility needs, first-generation college students, and ethnically and racially diverse students. Last fall I studied abroad in Cusco, Peru where I took classes about Latin American culture and literature, hiked through the Andes, and tutored young Peruvian women in English and study skills. Although I tutor multiple subjects, I am most excited about tutoring Spanish and Psychology because of my passion for these subjects! Tutoring allows me to share these passions with others.
When I was six, my family and I moved from East Lansing Michigan to Montreal Quebec in Canada. I started French school there in first grade. It wasn't an easy transition. I switched language from English to French, but I was capable of speaking more than two languages fluently. It did add another skill set. After eight years living in Canada, we moved back to the United States. I went back to learn English again which I was very thankful for. I kept my French language intact, because it was a great opportunity for me to help people in my high school to learn more. It showed that I was capable of helping others in French and being a French Tutor.I enjoy watching sports like football and basketball since I was a kid. I really enjoyed playing both, because it gives me motivation and helps me to get stronger each day.Traveling is always a passion for me exploring new places and experience new culture.I'm passionate about art and drawing. I like to create my own image of design and show people my artistic work. My parent right now all work in computer fields where I'm capable of using Windows computer.
Ohio State graduate, test-prep strategist. I teach the strategy most students are never taught: how to eliminate wrong answers fast, manage the clock, spot recurring question types, and stay calm on exam day. Test prep: SAT, ACT, PSAT, SSAT, ASVAB, AFOQT, and TOEFL (ESL learners welcome). Years of building practice tests and study guides mean we skip the fluff and drill exactly what moves your score. AI & tech tutoring: SAP, Supabase, Claude Code, Grok, and "vibe coding" building real projects with AI tools. I teach from daily practice running a live platform, not from theory. The same skills power both: pattern recognition, precise thinking, and knowing which tool to reach for. My students learn to think strategically, not just memorize. Patient, structured, practical. Tell me your goal and timeline let's build your plan.
I am a graduate from Ohio University, and I just earned my Bachelor's in Music Education with a focus on voice and a minor in conducting. I have been involved in music within and outside of the school system for over ten years, and I believe in sharing the joy of music with everyone. I have given private vocal and voice lessons for four years so far, and have been a part of group tutoring sessions for topics like piano skills, music theory, ear training, and basic conducting. Along with those, I have worked with younger elementary age students on simple topics like English and Math that are a part of their curriculum. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, crocheting, and playing the occasional video game like Stardew Valley.
Howdy! I am a current student of Ohio University. I am working towards a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on literature, especially concerning the English Reformation. In addition, I have already received a certificate in East Asian Studies and am pursuing minors in History and World Religions. While in college, I tend to prioritize my schoolwork above all, but in 2018 I was able to spend 6 weeks working as a writing lab tutor for Ohio University's OPIE (Ohio Program of Intensive English) program. During those 6 weeks I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with several different undergraduate ESL/ELL students and offer guidance on all parts of the academic writing process, such as: brainstorming topics, outlining and organization, proofreading for grammar and spelling errors or inconsistencies, polishing and finalization, etc. In addition, I tailored my feedback to each student according to their personality as well as their individual English level. Outside of tutoring ESL/ELL students, during my high school years I also volunteered with a team of two other students to teach German to first graders at our local elementary school. We not only created our own lesson plans for each class, but also prepared all of our own teaching materials and managed to keep the first graders' attention for full 30-minutes.If you cannot yet tell, my favorite subjects to tutor are languages. This includes learning a foreign language, but I also offer tutoring on English literature and composition at the college level and below. This also includes American literature at all levels, as well as Reading, Reading Comprehension and Writing at all levels. In addition, I am also certified through Varsity Tutors to offer tutoring on Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Basic Computer Literacy, U.S. History, AP U.S. Government & Politics, AP English Literature and Composition, AP German Language and Culture, ACT Writing, as well as non-AP levels of German and Mandarin Chinese. Thanks to my varied experience, I feel comfortable working with students of all ages and have no preference regarding a students' level of education. That is to say, everyone is welcome! I truly believe that access to education is the deciding factor in predicting a person's potential to achieve stability and happiness in their lives, so I am especially passionate about offering online tutoring to potential students. If you chose me as your online tutor, I hope that we can work together toward a shared goal: making you (or your child) the BEST and BRIGHTEST student of 2020.
I have been a math teacher for 10 years; I love math and I love teaching!I totally get it: for most people, the end-goal of studying math isn't to become a mathematician or to fall deeply in love with division and derivatives. For most people, math is just a tool that they need to use (or study) to achieve a goal (becoming a doctor) or to accomplish a task (figuring out how much paint you need to paint that funny shaped room). So, I don't expect my students to love math because of its inherent beauty. They might, who knows? I just want to help them use math to achieve their own goals.
I'm currently in school to become a middle school math and science teacher. I've had the opportunity to help students in the classroom with their work and really enjoyed helping walk them through solving problems. Instead of just using formulas and thinking about problems in a rigid mindset, I hope to help students think about what the problem means, different ways to solve it, and work through to the right answer. Having the right mindset for math can be a powerful thing.
I'm currently studying Exercise Physiology with a minor in Biological Sciences at Ohio University. After graduation I plan to attend physical therapy school and become a Doctor of Physical Therapy. I also run cross country as a student-athlete at Ohio University and am a member of Athletes in Action: a Christian bible study group. When I'm home, I'm an active member of my church Grace United Church of Christ. I found a passion for tutoring and helping others with school work through my involvement in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and through helping fellow classmates at Ohio University. I particularly enjoy chemistry, but I like most of the sciences. In my free time, I enjoy running, long boarding, playing disc golf, swimming, and spending time with family and friends.
I know what it is like to struggle with standardized tests. I had to take the LSAT three times before I got a decent score. However, I made it through law school and passed the bar in the 98th percentile on the first try! I learned a lot along the way and I love to share what I learned.I went on to serve as a Magistrate Judge for 11 years. In that time, I presided over 70,000 cases and filed over 1,800 written decisions. Writing a decision is very similar to answering law school or bar exam essay questions. But what I enjoyed most about being a magistrate is mentoring young attorneys. I hope to continue mentoring through Varsity Tutors.I have experience in training Judges, Magistrates, Attorneys, and students in complicated areas of the law in both collegiate and in professional seminars. I want to use that experience to help you pass law school and the bar exam.I specialize in teaching law students a process that allows them to handle any essay question that comes up on the bar exam. My process is simple, easy to learn, and can be applied to any subject. The process can be taught in a minimum of six hours.I'm looking forward to meeting you and working with you!
Tutors and teachers have possibly the most important job next to parents. As they play a part in developing a new generation of thinking individuals and life-long learners. I am excited to a part of this process each day as a teacher. It gives a feeling of satisfaction to see a student succeed, self achieve and grow from seeds you have planted.I coach football so this time of year can be a but busy. In my free time I enjoy watching Ohio State (Go Bucks), golfing, and spending time with my family.
I am a professional tutor and certified teacher with a Master's degree in Math Education. I specialize in 5th/6th/7th/8th grade Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2. I am engaging, enthusiastic, and keep communication a high priority. I also tutor SAT and ACT test prep as well as PSAT, SSAT and HSPTs
Hello! I have studied French for 18+ years and am a fluent French speaker. I am highly enthusiastic about French language and culture, both of which interest me immensely. I've had the great fortune of working in Vincennes, France on the outskirts of Paris for a year in 2013-2014, where I taught English to a 6-year-old child. When I arrived, he only knew "Hello" and "Goodnight", and, by the time I left, his skill set and confidence in the language had developed to the point where he understood 95% of what I said, was forming complete sentences, and would regularly ask me (in English) for new words whenever he didn't know how to say something!I developed a deep love for teaching language through this experience, as well as my prior experience living with a host family in the Southern France city of Avignon when I was in university. These chances afforded me the opportunity to pursue French language by forming several close friends with whom I still remain quite close today and hope to return to visit soon. I also tutored the child's stepfather, brand new to English, and discovered that I equally enjoyed working with adults. The friendships and experiences I had living abroad have stayed with me, and I continue to pursue French every day. As my friends joke, if a film or television show exists in French, I will find it! I make a point of consuming the majority of my media in French, and, as a huge music-lover, would guess that at least 60% of my music library is French music.I believe that students learn best when they have a reason to learn. This means figuring out what interests them and providing opportunities to pursue these interests in the desired language. When teaching French at Ohio University as a teaching associate in 2014-2015, I introduced my students to a variety of French YouTube channels, music, television shows, games and websites. I encouraged them to find at least one thing that they found interesting or enjoyable, the idea being that, in order to learn French, you must find something French you wish to incorporate in your everyday life. Music is a particularly successful media form that I stress, as most people enjoy music and will develop good pronunciation and comprehension skills through repeated listenings.I also encourage students to learn about French culture, in part through personal stories, and to reach out to native French speakers through various interactive media forms. French culture is often misunderstood by Americans, in particular, and students are often very interested in learning about our differences and similarities.Outside of French, I am also a big writer and regularly participate in persuasive writing discussions as well as creative writing for my own personal entertainment. Additionally, I enjoy photography and animals, spending time with those close to me, and am always up for baking a good batch of chocolate chip cookies with friends!

Through my partnership with Varsity Tutors, I have expanded my expertise to encompass PRAXIS, OAE, GED, and various math and science-based subjects, catering to students across diverse age groups. I furthered my education at Concordia University, obtaining a Master of Education with a major in Curriculum and Instruction and a minor in STEAM. Throughout my teaching career, I have witnessed students' growth and success, which remains my greatest passion.

I believe understanding ideas leads to the betterment of people. I want to help others with this mission.
I believe in acquiring education from wherever and whenever. 2017 marked the year of biggest achievement when I completed my MBBS degree followed by the completion of Masters in Public Health in 2021. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD in Communication Studies with a majors in Health Communications. Apart from that, I have a teaching and tutoring experience for almost a decade now and why I believe in tutoring lies in the fact that it enhances our skills, provides us a mentor who can help us progress and this two way process of one to one learning creates a connection beneficial for students in their academic and professional growth. The academic program which I possess makes me an expert to teach subjects like Biology, Science, Public Speaking and basic Mathematics. My teaching style depends on allowing students to explore and thus, I am focused more on problem based learning. I believe, this approach gives a chance to students to think critically and explore beyond the set boundaries.
