I was never a straight A student, in fact, I struggled to get B's. It was never a problem with the content I was learning but the context in which that material was presented. After learning about the many different learning profiles that exist in the classroom I realized that students like myself were being left out to dry. I decided three years into my first college experience that I wanted to become an educator. Transferring to Wright State University and enrolling in their Teacher Preparation program is undoubtedly the best decision I have ever made. This upcoming fall I will be working in the Dayton Public School district to help students who, like myself, who struggle with "playing school."Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading science-fiction and taking hikes at the many metro parks in the South Dayton area. I occasionally work at a locally owned running store on the weekends and even do some coaching in the fall and spring. I have spent most of my life in Dayton but also moved around a lot as my father was in the military. I hope to move and teach in Philadelphia some day in the future but for now, my focus is on revitalizing the school system in Dayton.

I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Master's of Science degree in Occupational Therapy with a specialization in education. I also have taken extra college classes in Mathematics and Science to further my education. I worked for a few years on the clinical side of Occupational Therapy, and then my career path took a new direction. I got involved in a tutoring program for students at the K-12 level. I loved it immediately; I had found my true passion: working with and helping children. I started teaching students in various environments and to students of all levels. I have assisted teaching in a school, substitute taught for grades k-12 in all subject areas, tutored at a center for kids with special needs, tutored on-one-on in homes, taught lessons in an after-school program, and managed a team of tutors. I have tutored the subjects of Mathematics, Science, Reading, English, Writing, History, Spanish, and ACT/SAT Preparation. I have also been in a director role for an after-school program for three years. My true passion is working with children and helping them to feel confident, excited about learning, and positive about their futures. I believe allowing students to interact through auditory, visual, and tactile systems gives them a deeper understanding of their environments and the material presented to them. In the past, I have been able to learn from my students, laugh with them, teach them and advise them. I have always worked hard to overcome obstacles presented to me in my life, and I would love the opportunity to help other students to have this perspective as well. In my free time, I like to teach yoga, practice Pilates, and dance. I love to read, snowboard, and walk/bike along the beach.

I am passionate about helping students feel confident about the content they are to master. I have worked for 10 years as an educator in the subjects of ESL and ELA. More specifically, I have worked in the areas of phonemic/phonological awareness, phonics, and morphology, as well as teaching English reading, writing, listening, and speaking to non-native speakers.I studided Spanish and TESOL at the university level, lived abroad in Mexico, and have worked in K-12 education for the last ten years. I am currently in the process of Orton Gillingham training for teaching students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. I am also working towards a Master's Degree in Literacy.I enjoy tutoring all subjects, but my personal favorite is in the area of phonics, because I feel it is the key to unlocking the rest of the literacy skills that students will achieve in their lifetime.I am laid-back and enjoy getting to know my students and being able to joke with one another while we work. Respect and focus are important, but so is fun and having a solid student-tutor relationship. We will master content, but we will enjoy doing it. :)

I am a junior at Wright State University studying Biological Sciences. I intent to go on to pharmacy school, potentially at Ohio State University. I have always enjoyed learning and studying about biology, anatomy, and physiology. Within my university's tutoring program, I have tutored 8-10 students weekly to help better their understanding of material and prepare for exams. My university trained me in how to be an effective tutor and make the most of my tutoring sessions. Sessions will always start with a review of the topic as well as session goals and end with an evaluation of how we are doing to meet the student's goals and wrap up with any final questions or concerns. I always like to make sure my students have a good understanding of concepts on multiple levels; from more complex situations to the overall big picture. I often use figures, diagrams, analogies, and comparisons to help my students better understand a concept. In my spare time I enjoy running and hiking, catching up on favorite TV shows, and spending time with my family.

My approach to tutoring is driven by a fundamental belief: true learning transcends rote memorization. I am passionate about fostering a deep understanding of concepts in students, not just the ability to recall facts. My aim is to illuminate the "why" behind the "what," encouraging students to actively question and explore the underlying principles of the subject matter. I believe that by nurturing this curiosity, we can build a robust foundation that empowers students to not only succeed academically but also to confidently apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios. My goal is to make learning an engaging and meaningful journey where students develop a lasting appreciation for the subject and the ability to think critically and independently.

I first suspected that I would enjoy teaching in high school, when I tutored a friend in Latin and found that I enjoyed working with others to share my knowledge. This was reinforced during my undergraduate studies, when I worked with the university tutoring office, and was confirmed in graduate school, when I found I had a greater passion for teaching than for research. I have been involved in education ever since, tutoring students independent, serving as the math tutor at ITT Technical Institute, and most recently as a substitute teacher, where my greatest joy comes when I am given the opportunity to work with and assist the students.I excel in teaching languages, particularly Latin and Ancient Greek, and I have found that I have an aptitude for conveying math concepts in a way that is understandable and approachable for students. I remember my own challenges when I learned new concepts, and I try to draw on those to anticipate problems that my students may have.Whatever challenges you may face, I will happily and patiently work with you to solve them; if we can't resolve them in one session, I will research tools to help for the next session. It gives me pleasure to see students succeed, and I hope that I will be able to help you in your academic endeavors!

I have been an educator for 24 years. The last 16 years have been in educational leadership where I was able to ensure that all facets of education were superior for all students! My experience working with students range from being a college instructor to a youth counselor. All roles have been rewarding especially as an elementary and high school principal. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wright State University and my Masters of Science in Teaching degree from the University of Dayton. I am a licensed elementary and middle school teacher, a licensed Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade principal and a licensed school Superintendent. I love public speaking, working out, cooking and writing in my journal daily.I am passionate about tutoring students because I once had a tutor. Having a tutor allowed me to feel motivated, encouraged and inspired! My life changed from feeling defeated to victorious! This was due to my tutor believing that I could, so I did! Now I am able to give that same energy back to students I work with. I believe when students are given the right tools according to their learning style, they can achieve with patience and practice as we have fun doing it! I love to teach English Language Arts (reading and writing). I enjoy seeing students find power with words as they use their imagination. This allows creativity and a connection to what they are studying that is later developed into a story of their own. Reading is such a fun subject especially when I discover what student's interests are. I then incorporate their interests and things they like into their lesson.
