In the few years since I received my Bachelor's in Art History from the College of Wooster in Ohio I've had many different jobs. My ability to identify artistic movement based on formal qualities of art doesn't usually come into my day-to-day, yet the critical thinking skills and versatility of understanding I developed from a liberal arts education helps me excel in every responsibility I take on. I was lucky to attend excellent schools my whole life, and that the school system fit exactly with my learning style. During my time with Wooster's education department I was placed in a high school, pre school and a kindergarten, where I got to see a great diversity of teaching tactics and developmental levels. However, the limitations of the school system left me unwilling to work in the one-size-fits-all structure. Everyone learns in a different way and it's unreasonable to expect a school to cater to each learning style and personality, which is why I find tutoring to be an important part of an education. I want to help other students get as great an education as I did.Drawing and Art History are my favorite subjects; I could talk about the Parisian move from the French Academy to the Impressionists for hours. While not as much fun, I think SAT prep is very important. As a naturally good test-taker, I always thought it was unfair that others had to study for months to pass a test I found so simple. Tutoring the best ways to take the test is my way of paying it back. I want to help students get on equal footing and move on in their education toward a well-rounded ability to think critically, which has made my entire adult life more successful. Outside of the educational sphere I have a slight obsession with Jane Austen, John Steinbeck, and trail running. I love to draw and collage mail items to send to friends around the country, occasionally stopping to try to teach myself the mandolin.

I am a current graduate student at Duke University and have a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from The College of Wooster. One of the best experiences I had in college was serving as a teaching assistant for an upper-level political science research course. In that position, I met regularly with students to help them develop their independent research projects and improve their understanding of course material and concepts. The subjects I am most passionate about tutoring are political science, U.S. government, and essay writing. As a tutor, I believe that knowledge is power and, therefore, I am committed to making sure all my students have the resources and the confidence to succeed in school so they can go on to do amazing things with their lives. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading, baking, and going on long walks.

Personal Statement I hold two Master's degrees: one in Education and another in Spanish Language, and I am licensed by the state of Virginia to teach ESOL (Pre-K-12). Additionally, I have received formal training in the Lindamood-Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing and Seeing Stars programs. With over ten years of experience as a full-time teacher in international schools, I have had the opportunity to grow and deepen my commitment to education on a global scale. As I reflect on my career, I recognize that while my roles have varied, the common thread that ties them all together is a passion for education. My journey into teaching began at the age of 17 when I volunteered with Amigos de las Amricas in Ecuador. Living with an Ecuadorian host family in a small town in the El Oro province, I helped lead workshops on dental hygiene and nutrition and assisted with building latrines. While my mission was to educate others, it was clear that I learned more from the cultural exchange and the immersion in a foreign language. This experience sparked a lifelong passion for language learning and travel. Upon returning to the U.S., I began volunteering as an ESOL teacher for Latin American immigrants and continued my work with migrant farmworkers in Wooster, Ohio, as a college student. During this time, I majored in Spanish and studied abroad in both Spain and the Dominican Republic. After graduating, I moved to Boston and worked with refugee students in a summer program, helping them explore the city and reflect on their experiences in writing. I also worked as an ESOL teaching assistant, later transitioning to a Life Skills Coach position within the Boston Public Schools. During this period, I began taking African dance and percussion classes, further immersing myself in cultural exploration. Before completing my Master's degree in Spanish, I spent five months in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, where I studied Afro-Brazilian dance and volunteered as an ESOL teacher. While earning my Master's degree, I also taught Spanish 101 and 102 to undergraduates. Following my graduation, I continued working as a Life Skills Coach for Boston Public Schools. After the birth of my son, I pursued certifications in Medical Interpreting and Holistic Health Counseling from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. The pivotal moment in my career came when I moved to Brazil seven years ago. Initially settling in a small town in Bahia's Chapada Diamantina region, I obtained a permanent visa to live and work in Brazil based on my Brazilian son's citizenship. Despite not speaking Portuguese, I relied on my Spanish to communicate and quickly adapted to my new environment. I applied for English as a Foreign Language teaching positions and, after two months, secured jobs at both public and private schools. I also completed my ESOL teacher's license online through the FAST TRAIN Program at George Mason University. My language skills grew rapidly, and I became proficient in Portuguese, which allowed me to expand my teaching opportunities. I went on to teach at Graded School in So Paulo and later received a Pre-K-12 ESOL teaching license from Virginia. I taught at the Pan American School of Bahia for two years as an ESOL teacher and then as a Year 2 homeroom teacher. My career then took me to Roi Et, Thailand, where I taught Year 3, and later to Braslia, Brazil, where I taught Year 2 and Year 3 English and Science. In July 2023, I returned to an international school in Salvador, Bahia, where I currently serve as an Elementary English Language Enrichment teacher. Throughout my career, I have developed adaptability, resourcefulness, resilience, and a deep commitment to the teaching profession. My passion for languages, teaching, and cultural exchange continues to drive me forward, allowing me to embrace new challenges and grow both professionally and personally. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue learning and contributing to the lives of my students in the field of international education.

I earned a BA in English (Phi Beta Kappa; Departmental Honors) from The College of Wooster and a Master of Letters (Outstanding Service Award; 4.0 GPA) in Shakespeare and Performance from Mary Baldwin College. As a professional teacher, I tutored for two years in suburban Washington, DC. In that role, I taught test preparation, composition, and reading comprehension for accelerated students. While in this position, I helped several students achieve perfect SAT verbal and writing sections, and specialized in college essay composition. While completing my graduate degree, I ran weekly writing labs for ESL learners and first-generation college students in rural Virginia. Having worked with many types of learners, I believe in finding students' strengths, tailoring appropriate strategies, and giving them ownership over their own work. While I specialize in teaching academic writing, test preparation, and Shakespeare, I believe that struggling students can overcome any obstacle by learning repeatable methods to confidently approach problems. Outside of teaching, I work as a Shakespearean actor, freelance writer, and folk musician. In my spare time, I enjoy fitness, distance running, watching professional sports, and reading.

I am a 2019 graduate of the College of Wooster. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and have worked in pharmaceutical testing post-graduation. As the "math-minded" sister, for years I have helped both my older and younger siblings (I am one of 10!) with math and science homework, studying, and understanding mistakes on past assignments and tests. While in college, I worked for three years as a lab assistant and tutor for the introductory chemistry laboratory students. This entailed being present in the lab, answering questions and troubleshooting with students during experiments. I also held office hours to assist with general questions and studying, preparing for future labs and assignments, as well as going over previous assignments and offering areas of improvement. I easily created rapport with my students, and I still keep in touch with some, getting updates on their recent academic successes. With the majority of the students I assist being in middle school, high school, and early college, I have the most experience with this age range and feel very comfortable with the subject material.I am passionate about making science more accessible to everyone. I never saw myself as particularly talented in the math and science fields, but my math teacher in 8th grade changed that for me. I hope to provide that positive experience with math and science for others, and while I don't expect to turn everyone into a future Chemistry major, I do hope to at least turn it into a manageable challenge as opposed to an insurmountable one.

I studied Philosophy and Theatre at the College of Wooster in Ohio and then studied Education at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland where I got my MS. I love tutoring all subjects but am particularly drawn to SAT prep because I know how much just a little extra help can boost a score. I had a great SAT prep tutor when I was in high school, and even though I only met with him twice, my score went up significantly! I love teaching and have over two years of classroom experience. I love to read and believe that through reading, one can improve every aspect of one's life, and I mean that genuinely. I hope to inspire students to continue to read and write as a means to become a great person. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy performing in improv comedy shows, acting, exploring the city, and playing board games.

I'm a Senior Mathematics major studying at the College of Wooster in Ohio. While in school, I work part time aiding High school and early college students taking introductory calculus courses or studying for the SAT.In high school, I scored in the 92-percentile range for the Math SAT and often helped fellow students on an informal basis. Before formalizing my teaching experience, I was always able to connect with other students on an individual basis and help them grasp new concepts. When I teach, I focus on the connections with a certain topic to real world applications, making for an interesting and engaging experience.I am now in my fourth year of a Mathematics Major and have been helping other students for 2 years. I studied Calculus 1-3, Set theory, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability and statistics and Operations Research. Many of the students I taught in introductory calculus courses did well in these higher-level courses. I would often see them in groups of 3-4 and review practice problems for an exam, taking extra time to go over more difficult problems. For those who are still struggling with math, I find reward in not only helping them understand a certain topic, but reshaping the way they perceive it. I want to make sure that no one I tutor will be afraid of math again.I structure sessions based on student's specific and individual needs so be sure to provide some background on the topic at hand.Let me help you conquer the challenges of new math topics and find academic success!
