I am a graduate of McGill University (BA First Class Honors) and the University of Edinburgh (MSc First Class Honors with Distinction) with over eight years of tutoring experience. I am currently a curriculum developer for a company which creates relatable and culturally-literate courses for middle and high-schools, and am particularly adept at communicating and explaining concepts in a quirky, engaging, and intelligent manner. I was named Scotland International Young Thinker of the Year 2014 for exactly that sort of work. Much of my tutoring background is in test-prep and essay coaching, which I enjoy because it allows the tutor and student to think strategically together, and work as a team to achieve concrete results. I have worked with students ranging in age from 6-32, and believe that, in an educational context, a few jokes never hurt anybody. I love reading and learning, and my educational approach is centered around making the material just as engaging to students as it is to me. I think J.K. Rowlings, the writer of Harry Potter, is just as brilliant as Stephen Hawking, and in my free time, I manage my (terrible) fantasy baseball team, write songs for my comedy band, and crack jokes about terrible science-fiction movies with my friends.

I am a Yale graduate with over 8 years experience tutoring students from a variety of backgrounds. I recently graduated from the Yale School of Public Health with a MPH concentrating in Epidemiology and Global Health. I also received my B.S. from Yale with a double major in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and French. I have experience both leading group classes and working with students one on one. I will respond to a student's strengths, weaknesses, and learning style in order to help them succeed and make the most of our time together. I earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT, 2280 on the SAT, and qualified as a National Merit Scholar on the PSAT. I look forward to working with you!
I'm glad you've come to my page. I am a Yale grad, Johns Hopkins master's candidate, and certified early childhood educator. At Yale, I studied History and Child Development. I went on to teach with Teach For America, and I am currently in my 3rd year of teaching. Tutoring has been an interest of mine for many years. I started tutoring when I was in middle school, and I haven't stopped. I thoroughly enjoy working with students of all ages to help supplement their learning. I am looking forward to helping your child to meet his/her goals!
I am a current student at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in English and minoring in journalism and art history. I am very passionate about literature, writing and history, and I love sharing my knowledge and learning new things. In the past few years, I have worked with young children learning to read and high school Latin students, and I also love working with students on improving Standardized Test results. In my spare time, I love reading, music and anything active!
I am a 2nd year medical student at Northeast Ohio Medical University and have tutored K-12 and college students over the past 10 years in various subjects ranging from math and science to SAT prep and language arts. My educational background includes an MPA in Development Practice from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, a B.S. in Molecular, Cell, & Developmental Biology, and a B.S. in Mathematics-Economics (both from UCLA). In addition, I have scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT, ACT, and GMAT exams and scored in the 95th percentile on the MCAT. I really enjoy working with students of all ages and backgrounds and believe all students are capable of learning and being successful with the right approach to education. I would love the chance to discuss in more detail what kind of tutoring you or your student is interested in and thank you for your consideration!
I am a recent graduate of Cornell University, where I received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Over the past several years, I have worked with students from diverse backgrounds and experiences tutoring thermodynamics (my personal favorite), chemistry, and math. I have also tutored in the past for ACT/SAT and other subjects such as history, but I am deeply passionate about science and engineering. I tend to push my students to understand conceptual topics, as opposed to rote or algorithmic learning. In my free time, I love to bake sourdough, learn about history, garden, and recently started biking again.
I am currently a senior at Johns Hopkins studying Biomedical Engineering. I have a lot of experience tutoring in math, physics, chemistry, and thermodynamics. I have also proof-read essays for college applications and english classes as well. Outside of school I like to cook, play basketball, and listen to music.
I am excited to be tutoring. In my experience teaching, I have learned that empowerment in a subject is a combination of efficient guidance from me and a willingness to improve from my students. By signing up for tutoring, students are already taking the first step to mastering whatever areas in which they may be having difficulty. I won't do all the work for my students but I will never leave them to figure out everything by themselves, as that defeats the purpose of a tutor. I will constantly assess understanding during the learning process, thus gradually giving my students the confidence that they have moved into deeper understanding of material. With the right instruction, everyone is capable of overcoming those problem subjects, and I am happy to help along the way.
I am currently a sophomore at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, majoring in Human Development with a minor in Education. I tutor a variety of subjects, I am the most passionate about English. I have previously tutored high school English, focusing on thesis development, grammatical skills, and creative writing. My experience creating weekly curriculums for students in preschool through 12th grade as an activity facilitator for Chautauqua Institution allowed me to refine many of my teaching skills. I was especially enthusiastic about my lessons on poetry and nature literature. Although my interest in teaching began in high school, my Education minor has given me more hands-on experience working with students. The minor has also introduced me to new teaching methods, as I have been able to dissect education theory and policy. In my free time, I read a lot of non-fiction, draw, and watch the West Wing.
I am a rising junior at Vanderbilt University studying biomedical engineering, computer science, and engineering management. I currently plan on furthering my education in law school, specifically within intellectual property law. During the week, I work in the Center for Technology Transfer and Commercialization where I work with Vanderbilt researchers to take their inventions to industry. I also work in the Vanderbilt Office of Admissions. The pursuit of knowledge is my passion, and I look forward to working with you to help you in your academic endeavors!
I am a graduate of Vanderbilt University class of 2016 majoring in Neuroscience. If you have any questions or inquiries about the college process, selecting a major, or Vanderbilt University, I am happy to answer your questions. Currently, I am looking to obtain a Masters degree and am applying to such programs. I tutor children on a weekly basis at my local church from ages of 8 to 14 on an assortment of subjects. I understand that there are different learning styles and I try to find the right approach for each different student.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Lorain's 12 schools and 10 school districts with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends a school in the Lorain City Schools district or another local district, we can match them with a tutor who understands the curriculum and academic standards they're working with.
With Lorain's average student-teacher ratio of 16.5:1, many students benefit from the individualized attention that personalized 1-on-1 tutoring provides. A tutor can focus entirely on your student's specific learning gaps, learning style, and pace—something that's difficult for teachers to do in larger classroom settings. This targeted approach helps students catch up faster and build confidence in their weaker areas.
Tutors working with Lorain students are familiar with Ohio's learning standards and how they're applied across different grade levels and subjects. They can help students master key concepts tested on Ohio assessments, prepare for state exams, and develop the skills needed to succeed in Ohio's curriculum. This localized knowledge ensures tutoring is aligned with what your student's school expects.
During the first session, the tutor will assess your student's current understanding, identify specific areas where they're struggling, and learn about their learning style and goals. This foundation allows the tutor to create a personalized plan that addresses your student's unique needs—whether that's catching up in a subject, preparing for a test, or building foundational skills. Most students feel more confident after that first meeting.
Lorain students commonly seek tutoring in math, reading and language arts, science, and test preparation for standardized assessments. Many students also benefit from tutoring in algebra, geometry, and chemistry—subjects where gaps in foundational skills can make later material harder to grasp. Varsity Tutors can connect you with tutors across all these subjects and more.
Pricing varies based on the tutor's expertise, the subject, and how frequently your student needs sessions. We work with families to find tutoring options that fit different budgets—whether that's weekly sessions, intensive prep for a specific test, or ongoing support throughout the school year. Contact us to discuss your student's needs and get pricing information tailored to your situation.
Absolutely. Many Lorain students who fall behind benefit greatly from personalized tutoring that targets their specific gaps. Rather than trying to keep up with the class pace, a tutor can slow down, reteach concepts in a different way, and give your student the practice they need to build confidence. With consistent sessions, most students see measurable improvement within a few weeks.
Simply reach out to Varsity Tutors and tell us about your student's needs—the subject, grade level, and specific challenges they're facing. We'll match them with a tutor who's a good fit and can begin sessions quickly. Most families appreciate how straightforward the process is and how fast they see their student's confidence and grades improve.
