I am a state licensed teacher in Early Childhood Education and Intervention Specialist with a Master's degree in Montessori Education, and twelve years of classroom experience. I also have tutored students one-on-one in math and language arts. I believe in using a multi-sensory approach to help students retain what they learn and to make learning fun!

That probably explains why I earned a master's degree in journalism, a second master's degree in English literature, and a doctorate in English literature, too.I went to Indiana University for graduate school and learned from some great teachers. That is also were I began teaching. I taught first-year composition and intensive-writing literature classes and I loved it. I have been teaching ever since. I tutor reading and writing. I enjoy teaching both of those things because people get so excited when they can understand others clearly and when they, too, can communicate what they really mean to say.My philosophy about teaching is that it is a great way to help people to become more of who they already are. I graduated from Xavier University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training. In 1998, I earned my Master of Physical Therapy from Allegheny University of the Health Sciences. After working as a physical therapist for several years, I continued practicing and earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2014. I have been a clinical instructor to numerous physical therapy students. In addition, I taught Therapeutic Exercise and Therapeutic Modalities & Pharmacology as an adjunct professor for athletic training students. Because I had experience in opening two physical therapy clinics for a hospital employer and a private practice employer, I decided to utilize that experience to open my own independent physical therapy practice in 2015. After earning my NASM Personal Training Certification and pursuing specializations in Fitness Nutrition and Corrective Exercise, I closed my physical therapy practice in 2021 to focus on my current wellness business. I have passed the NATA-BOC, NATA, NASM-CPT, NASM-FNS, and NASM-CES exams on the first attempt. I know how to prepare, study, and pass professional exams! I currently assist with coaching a USATF XC & Track team; however, I miss teaching academically. I am excited to join the Varsity Tutor platform to teach and mentor students who are interested in athletic training, physical therapy, personal training, and nutrition. I am a gym-rat and an endurance junkie! I workout almost 2 hour every day because I love how exercise increases my energy. My background is in Athletic Training. I have a bachelors degree and a masters degree in AT. My love of sports and for the human body has led me down this path. I am a current college professor teaching a wide variety of courses in health, anatomy and physiology, and exercise science. Often times it takes hearing something more than once for it to be remembered and my goal is to provide repetition but in a way that it not so repetitive. I also encourage my students to teach me. If you can act like the teacher than you know the content.When I'm not teaching, I enjoy traveling around and showing my kids different historic sites and National Parks. I think one can learn a lot when traveling and it is one way I like to teach my own children about our world, culture, country, and even math. I'm a former soccer player turned soccer mom now, but I love all sports. I have frequently encountered decent teachers who can effectively outline a subject in a lecture but who have trouble comprehending where their students might be confused, often because they are too removed from the way the students' brains work. The best teachers and tutors are those who not only can teach material clearly but who realize the points of confusion, which vary from student to student (and class to class). When I teach a subject, I prepare lessons, but I also understand the need to be adaptable, to adjust the lesson on the fly, as everyone learns differently and encounters difficulties at different stages. I developed this adaptability and this understanding of a multitude of perspectives from my diverse teaching experiences and also from my multidisciplinary educational background.I attained my Bachelor's degree from Xavier University, a Jesuit university in Cincinnati, Ohio, where I was enrolled in an interdisciplinary program in history, philosophy, and political science, which also involved a minor concentration in psychology. I then went on to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where I received a Master's degree in philosophy, a subject hospitable to my wide-ranging aptitude and curiosity. The diverse capabilities have reinforced both my competence and enthusiasm in a number of areas, which I bring to bear readily as a tutor. I can appreciate the perspective of a student strong in math who needs help with the verbal section of a standardized test or the viewpoint of a good writer who might be struggling in math courses, as I have immersed myself with a wide variety of subjects and consequently a wide variety of ways of thinking (not to mention diverse classmates). Though my comprehension of various subjects is important, my knack for relating to the way others think is likely my strongest feature as an educator.

It has been clear since I was a high school student, if not before, that teaching was my calling, not just my future job. No matter what field of study caught my interest -- math, law, humanities, language -- I always imagined myself teaching it. My curiosity about life, my love of students of all ages, and my passionate belief that all of us are learners and people of value have opened the door to widely varied teaching and learning opportunities and make me both prepared and eager to work with students in almost any age group, needing support in almost any subject area. I can't wait to help any Varsity Tutors students who come my way!

I am passionate about learning, that's why I spent my time in college pursuing three majors. I care not only about what we learn, but also how we do so. I value scientifically proven methods of low stakes quizzing and interleaving of topics in my teaching. I find that students who realize how to learn become much more engaged in their material, regardless of what it is they are learning. My degree in classical studies has given me a command of language of which I am proud, and this, coupled with my training and work as an actor, has enabled me to communicate concepts to students with numerous, precise, and individualized explanations. Students are often shocked by how bearable their least favorite subjects become when they're not so painful or scary. I try to give them the tools to make that happen.

Hi there, my name is Darrell P. Jones. I am a English, math, and music tutor. Right now my concentration is on teaching English. I am very patient with my students because that is my standards as a substitute teacher at Deer Park, Finneytown, and Norwood schools in Cincinnati Ohio. I specialize in helping students to speak out the words as well as spelling them correctly. I also have plenty of worksheets for them in the tutoring sessions. Another technique that I use with my students is for them to become very good readers by reading the story back to me for review before a quiz or test. I also teach basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I have workshetts mostly for the 3rd and fourth grade level. I am also a professional singer and music teacher, in which I am very able to give voice lessons through the varsity learning platform. I have sung overseas throughout Europe such as Germany, Rome, and The Czech Republic. I also sing with Cincinnati Opera, Dayton Opera, Sorg Opera, Queen City Opera. etc. I also do lots of Oratorio concerts throughout the Midwest.

Hello, My name is Aline. I am an ESL teacher from Cincinnati, Ohio. I have been teaching ESL classes for 11 years. The first school where I taught English was located in Brazil (Escola Americana). In Cincinnati, I taught individual classes at Berlitz Language School. My most recent teaching job was at ELS at the University of Cincinnati. The types of students that I have had are executives, students with plans to study in the U.S., family members who recently moved to the U.S. In Brazil, all the students were Brazilians and mostly beginners. At Berlitz I taught different levels, and mostly executives and their families. At ELS, their were 12 levels of classes and it was an academic program. My schedule was from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Many of my students were Saudi Arabians and Chinese, who planned to study in the U.S. At ELS, I taught classes which concentrated on reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Reading classes concentrated on reading comprehension. In writing classes, students were expected to write up to 5 paragraph essays. Listening classes included various ways of practicing listening and understanding. Speaking classes involved students practicing speaking while using correct grammar; often the students had to make speaking presentations in classes. I have also taught classes of common idioms, music practice with English lyrics, intonation, vocabulary, and pronunciation. I speak French, Spanish, and some Portuguese. My French was learned from my mother, who was French Canadian. I had to learn Spanish when I got married to a Colombian. When we lived in Brazil, I had to learn some Portuguese. It has always been enjoyable teaching ESL because as I teach students, I am always learning many details from my students about so many different cultures. Traveling to other parts of the world has always motivated me to continue working with people from other parts of the world. Besides teaching ESL, other positions I have had involved working with Hispanic population here in Cincinnati in social service agencies. I look forward to tutoring students who need help in perfecting the English language.
