Hi! I'm Cena. I'm a graduate of Oberlin College, where I received a BA in English Literature and Comparative American Studies, with a heavy (extracurricular) concentration in music and audio engineering. I'm a New York native and attended Bard High School Early College, where I fell in love with spending a great deal of time writing and thinking about books. I've previously interned at a literary agency, where I read manuscripts all day and wrote reader's reports, and spent my pre-COVID post-graduate time working as a live sound engineer at a number of music venues around New York City.I'm very passionate about writing, literature, and music -- I love teaching these subjects, and helping students identify with their work in a way that develops personal investment. These areas have proved (and still are) completely foundational to coming into my personhood, and I'm deeply invested in evoking the same in my students.

I graduated from Oberlin College with a Comparative Literature degree and have spent my life pursuing the mental thrill that comes from education, whether I'm learning something or passing it on to others. I have helped a diverse range of people understand subjects from Spanish to drumming, improv comedy to calculus, up to this past year with AmeriCorps when I spent all my time tutoring literacy to struggling elementary schoolers. Through these experiences I've learned how to discover and draw out the strengths that each student brings to the table; how to be sympathetic to students' frustrations while also pushing them to succeed; and how to find new and creative ways to make material resonate with different kinds of brains.I am well-versed in elementary school subjects as well as higher level humanities (especially English, Spanish, writing, SAT prep); I'm most experienced working with elementary schoolers but am also excited to apply the patience, creativity, and flexibility I've developed with them to older students. When I'm not tutoring I'm playing the guitar, making movies, writing novels, and doing whatever other creative activity I can lay my hands on.
Originally from Westchester County, I went to Oberlin College for my undergrad and then completed the University of Vermont Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program this past year. I love studying Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, Microbiology, and Biochemistry, and I have experience tutoring students in these subjects from the middle school to the undergraduate level. Although I typically tutor students in the Biological Sciences and Chemistry, I am also able to tutor students in elementary and middle school math. I am able to work with students on MCAT preparation and can help you achieve the score you want by focusing on how to properly approach the problems and hitting all the necessary bases with content review. For my teaching style, I like to teach students how to best approach and understand complex concepts with confidence so that they will build up the skill set required to solve and understand problems effortlessly. I believe in a personalized approach to tutoring and always customize my lessons based on the student's learning style and academic goals. By eliminating areas of weakness through carefully tailored lesson plans, we will be sure to cover all the bases so that you can achieve the high test scores and grades that you deserve. My goal is to get you to love learning science and I will be sure to put in all the effort required for you to succeed in this regard. When I'm not studying or working, I enjoy power-lifting, running, listening to and playing music, reading, spending time outside at a park or beach, cooking, and traveling abroad whenever possible.

I am a graduate of Oberlin College where I studied Jazz Bass Performance and Economics. I am also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honors Society.Throughout my time in school I was a teaching assistant and grader for many economics classes where I tutored students in groups and one on one in both mathematic and theoretical concepts. I also have experience teaching musical lessons such as jazz bass, piano, and music theory to younger students. Experience in these different teaching environments has helped me cultivate a teaching style that identifies how to teach each individual student based on their learning style and personality. While working with students on topics from math to music theory to test prep, I hope to draw on my multidisciplinary background to effectively give each student a solid understanding of the subject matter at hand.Overall I am very easy going and enjoy working will all age groups and at all academic levels. I look forward to the challenges and rewards presented with each student!
I am a graduate of Oberlin College and Wesleyan University and I am currently a PhD student at Harvard University. I received my BA in English, my BM in Jazz Studies, and my MA in Ethnomusicology. My PhD research is in West African music. I have many years of experience as a tutor, beginning as a writing tutor for a college writing center, then giving private music lessons, and working as a teaching assistant for undergraduate students in music and African studies courses. I tutor in many different areas, but my passion is in working with students in writing, literature, critical reading, music, and French. In working to prepare students for standardized tests, I can offer a wide variety of strategies for vocabulary, writing, and time management. As an educator, I am particularly interested in the transitions from high school to college, and from college into the professional world. Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing and listening to music, hiking, playing soccer, and spending time outdoors.
I graduated with a degree in Film & Comparative Literature from Oberlin College in Ohio. Over the past six years I've made dozens of short films and video art pieces, and freelanced on independent documentary projects. I have worked on television shows for Major League Baseball Productions, produced content for activist groups, and programmed for UnionDocs, a microcinema in New York. More recently, I've coordinated and facilitated retreats for emerging adults, focusing on personal growth skills and political education. I tutor a broad range of subjects, but I'm most passionate about English, Literature, and History. I've recently (and successfully) tutored myself in test preparation skills, so I am also very prepared to tutor test-prep. In my experience as a tutor, I have a great track record helping students develop their interest in reading anything! I have a deep belief that education is about practice, and that by practicing anything enough, any student can improve.
Hello! I'm Abigail and I'm a recent graduate from Oberlin College. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry, with a concentration in Pre-Med studies. Since high school, I have a passion for teaching a variety of subjects. During high school, I tutored at Kumon Math & Reading, teaching students math from the very basics to tackling Calculus and Linear Algebra. While a student at Oberlin, I was selected to TA for challenging introductory STEM courses, such as Organic Chemistry, Biology, and Chemistry. Aside from my interest in the sciences, I explored my passion for Russian Politics, Culture, and Literature. I traveled to Russia several times to work on journalism projects and was published in the Oberlin Review for my work in interviewing notable activists and researching grassroots movements in Russia. While in Russia, I taught English for children of migrant families, and in Istanbul, Turkey, I continued my ESL teaching for Syrian refugees. I especially love tutoring students topics in Biology and Chemistry, and I believe that with guidance and dedication, anyone can succeed in STEM and learn to appreciate the sciences.
I've been a camp counselor, reading and writing tutor, and teaching assistant for many years and I'm here to help students reach their full potential. Working with people, especially children and teenagers, is my passion, and I am looking forward to all of the opportunities I will have to connect with, instruct, and learn from students.
Born and raised in New York City, I have always had a deep passion for the humanities. I graduated from Oberlin College this May with a B.A. in History and Minors in Politics and French. From a young age I have been deeply interested in history -- particularly the Medieval and Early Modern periods, French language and culture, political theory, and geography. I also follow international events very closely. I see these subjects as different facets of the great story of human history. It is impossible to truly understand the modern world without a grasp of centuries of history as well as the political theories that inform our view of society. Furthermore the history of a culture is written in its language. Without a knowledge of geography there is no way to contextualize any of this.I want to become a tutor because I wish to spread my knowledge and passion of these subjects to other people. I would love the opportunity to show others why these topics, which people sometimes disregard or are bored by, are in fact fascinating, dramatic and beautiful.
Certainly here is a more formal, professional version suitable for an online teaching platform: Music has always been central to my work as an educator, performer, and lifelong learner. For me, music is not only an art form, but also a powerful means of communication, discipline, creativity, and personal growth. As a teacher, my goal is to help students develop strong musical skills while also encouraging confidence, curiosity, critical thinking, and a lasting appreciation for the arts. I bring extensive teaching experience across elementary, middle school, and high school levels, as well as experience working with students in private lessons, classroom environments, workshops, master classes, and online learning settings. This broad background has given me a strong understanding of how students learn at different stages of development and how to adapt instruction to meet a wide range of needs, abilities, and learning styles. My teaching approach is structured, supportive, and stu
