I work with my students gradually and patiently. I analyze the struggle and focus on what my student needs. I believe every student can succeed if we approach with right direction. In my experience tutoring struggling students change their perspective for subjects they are having hard time. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy watching movie and reading that which enriches my life, walking, running, and travel with my family.

I have a college degree in Physics and a graduate degree in Biology. I love to see students gain an understanding of the material through examples related to the world around us.I have had experience teaching as a substitute from 1st through 12th grade, including many assignments with students with developmental disabilities, where I was able to work with these students more on an individual basis. I have also taught many undergraduate laboratory classes in physics and biology. These courses provide a great opportunity to work one-on-one with students who need some extra help and to make sure that everyone is comfortable with the topic being examined.I believe that students gain a better understanding and appreciation for the material when they are led to the answer through questions and examples rather than just being told how to answer the question or perform the calculation. Although I have mostly taught at the college level, I have experience teaching students at all grade levels and enjoy helping students learn regardless of their current knowledge or ability in a particular subject.I enjoy interacting with students of all ages and helping them understand a subject, especially when they are having difficulties. I think many students who dislike school or a particular subject because they are not good at it or do not get it. The reason they are not good at it is likely because they have not spent the time or had the individual attention they need to be successful. I enjoy being able to spend the time to answer questions and ultimately help the student get to the answer on their own. When they can do this, they gain a much deeper appreciation for the thing they are studying. It is also great to see a student come to an understanding of the topic after they are given some information or strategies they did not have before.

I believe that everyone can learn, and it is an instructor's responsibility to find a means in which to make learning happen for each individual, regardless of their physical, mental or emotional capabilities, race, ethnicity, or religious background, income, gender, or sexual orientation or identification. I believe that learning is conditional upon one's learning style or modality; upon individual instructional tools and strategies implemented by an instructor, and upon individual learning interests, needs, or goals. I also believe that best learning happens when teachers form trusting relationships with their students, where learning and developing are the goals, and where encouragement and contribution is another goal. My personal beliefs about learning and instruction stem from an extensive background in the field of education, at all levels of learning, from elementary to middle school, and from high school to college. In fact, I've taught public school as an English teacher and reading specialist for 33 years; worked as an adjunct professor in the fields of education and business for 12 years, and I've worked as a certified tutor and educational consultant for a number of years. During that time, I've earned a BA degree in English, Master degrees in reading, curriculum and instruction, and several educational certifications in advanced literature, journalism, and free-lance writing. I pride myself in making connections with my students by demonstrating my knowledge in a subject area; my passion for teaching and learning, and my willingness to seek sources and provide immediate resources that enable learning to take place on a continuum. I know that everyone learns differently and that interests in learning are also different, from one individual to the next. My goal here is to be a bridge between what a student struggles with and what he or she needs to know in order to be successful and meet his or her learning goal. Therefore, I look forward to working with you as a Varsity Tutor and hope that you will continue the tutoring process with me until your learning goals have been met.

I'm currently a third-year Computer Engineering major with a Mathematics minor at the Washkewicz College of Engineering at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio. While I do not have any professional tutoring experience prior to joining Varsity Tutors, I have assisted my father (who is a High School Math Teacher) with tutoring and instructing some of his students. The different subject areas where I assisted with tutoring include Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus 1. I do have a lot of experience working with younger children, as I used to volunteer as a group leader at a local church for a variety of different summer camps; some of these summer camps include theatre camps, basketball camps, soccer camps, as well as art camps. Moreover, I am passionate about helping students because I know how difficult and stressful education can be, along with the constant pressure that students feel when it comes to academics. However, I'd like to show students that if they work hard and believe in themselves, they can build extremely successful lives and futures. The different areas of Math that I can tutor in are Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Statistics, Differential Equations, and Physics 1. Math has always been my best and favorite subject and I'm very thrilled and grateful to have the opportunity to tutor other individuals in this subject area. In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, going to the gym, and watching NBA Basketball.

Personal Statement I hold two Master's degrees: one in Education and another in Spanish Language, and I am licensed by the state of Virginia to teach ESOL (Pre-K-12). Additionally, I have received formal training in the Lindamood-Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing and Seeing Stars programs. With over ten years of experience as a full-time teacher in international schools, I have had the opportunity to grow and deepen my commitment to education on a global scale. As I reflect on my career, I recognize that while my roles have varied, the common thread that ties them all together is a passion for education. My journey into teaching began at the age of 17 when I volunteered with Amigos de las Amricas in Ecuador. Living with an Ecuadorian host family in a small town in the El Oro province, I helped lead workshops on dental hygiene and nutrition and assisted with building latrines. While my mission was to educate others, it was clear that I learned more from the cultural exchange and the immersion in a foreign language. This experience sparked a lifelong passion for language learning and travel. Upon returning to the U.S., I began volunteering as an ESOL teacher for Latin American immigrants and continued my work with migrant farmworkers in Wooster, Ohio, as a college student. During this time, I majored in Spanish and studied abroad in both Spain and the Dominican Republic. After graduating, I moved to Boston and worked with refugee students in a summer program, helping them explore the city and reflect on their experiences in writing. I also worked as an ESOL teaching assistant, later transitioning to a Life Skills Coach position within the Boston Public Schools. During this period, I began taking African dance and percussion classes, further immersing myself in cultural exploration. Before completing my Master's degree in Spanish, I spent five months in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, where I studied Afro-Brazilian dance and volunteered as an ESOL teacher. While earning my Master's degree, I also taught Spanish 101 and 102 to undergraduates. Following my graduation, I continued working as a Life Skills Coach for Boston Public Schools. After the birth of my son, I pursued certifications in Medical Interpreting and Holistic Health Counseling from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. The pivotal moment in my career came when I moved to Brazil seven years ago. Initially settling in a small town in Bahia's Chapada Diamantina region, I obtained a permanent visa to live and work in Brazil based on my Brazilian son's citizenship. Despite not speaking Portuguese, I relied on my Spanish to communicate and quickly adapted to my new environment. I applied for English as a Foreign Language teaching positions and, after two months, secured jobs at both public and private schools. I also completed my ESOL teacher's license online through the FAST TRAIN Program at George Mason University. My language skills grew rapidly, and I became proficient in Portuguese, which allowed me to expand my teaching opportunities. I went on to teach at Graded School in So Paulo and later received a Pre-K-12 ESOL teaching license from Virginia. I taught at the Pan American School of Bahia for two years as an ESOL teacher and then as a Year 2 homeroom teacher. My career then took me to Roi Et, Thailand, where I taught Year 3, and later to Braslia, Brazil, where I taught Year 2 and Year 3 English and Science. In July 2023, I returned to an international school in Salvador, Bahia, where I currently serve as an Elementary English Language Enrichment teacher. Throughout my career, I have developed adaptability, resourcefulness, resilience, and a deep commitment to the teaching profession. My passion for languages, teaching, and cultural exchange continues to drive me forward, allowing me to embrace new challenges and grow both professionally and personally. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue learning and contributing to the lives of my students in the field of international education.

Working with children has always been a passion of mine. As a pre-teen, it started with endless hours of babysitting on the weekends and over the summer. As I got got older, entering high school and college, I started tutoring students both my age and younger, and in all subject areas. Today, I am a middle school teacher, working in a field that I have been passionate about for many years. One of the most rewarding things that I get to experience as an educator is seeing those "light bulb" moments, where it all starts to click for my students. To me, this is one of the joys of tutoring students as well. Throughout my own educational experiences and as an educator, I have built a knowledge base in a wide variety of subjects and I look forward to being able to share that with each student I tutor and see those light-bulbs go off!

My goal as a teacher is to impart knowledge of the subject matter and enthusiasm for the material to as many students as possible. Making the material enjoyable to students requires employing multiple methods for teaching the subject matter. Each student will approach a subject from a different background, each student will learn most effectively through a different method, and each course will require a different technique.Having served as a teaching assistant at three different universities, I have experience at connecting with students regardless of the campus, class sizes, and student backgrounds. My biggest strength as a teaching assistant and a lecturer has been my ability to connect with students with diverse backgrounds enough so they feel comfortable approaching me with questions or concerns about the material. My students have a diverse range of educational and economic backgrounds, so I have to cater the material accordingly. Classes I have served as a TA for include thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science. I have also taught chemical engineering thermodynamics and tutored ACT/SAT/PSAT prep for high school students, and high school math and science. In addition, I have worked in various biological and engineering labs over the years, so I have technical expertise in many general undergraduate science classes. One of my main goals as an educator is to produce students that both feel confident in their own abilities to do independent work while also knowing when and how to rely on individuals with other skill sets to help fill in the gaps. While my students submit homework and tests individually, projects are conducted as group work, and I encourage students to work collaboratively while solving homework problems. This is to encourage better material understanding and a necessary skill in teamwork, while also making sure students are taking some initiative and are not completely reliant upon their classmates.I hope this gives you a sense for the kind of tutor I will be. Please let me know if you have any questions.

It is my belief that in order to teach one must be willing to perpetually learn, and the starting point of learning is humility. As Socrates famously states, "the only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." Once we realize our position we can truly make progress. Tutoring is all about patience, diligence, and encouragement. I am serious about my work, but I feel it is important to keep the mood light at times and build a solid rapport. It was during graduate school when I discovered my passion for tutoring. As a graduate assistant I tutored undergraduate students in deductive logic. The next step was volunteering for group called Seeds of Literacy and helping students prepare for the GED test. At this point I realized that tutoring was something I really enjoyed, and I began my professional tutoring career. I've been going strong for almost seven years. Most of my experience is with math, writing, and standardized test-prep, but I've done a bit of everything over the years. Additionally, I am comfortable with the social and natural sciences. In terms of ages I am best suited for the high school and college levels, although I do enjoy helping with younger students, too.I attended Baldwin Wallace College for my undergraduate degrees in economics and philosophy and Cleveland State University for graduate degree coursework in philosophy. Aside from the degrees I took a variety of courses including mathematics, logic, psychology, comparative religion, and the natural sciences. Nowadays I still read philosophy, especially the works of Plato and Kierkegaard. Other intellectual pursuits include studying ancient history (typically deep antiquity) as well as some cosmology, astronomy, and physics.I enjoy traveling, and I've been around Europe a few times, Mexico twice, visited Egypt once (easily my favorite trip), and a variety of trips here in the US. Travel is a wonderful activity not only for the sites and history one witnesses but also the cultures and individuals encountered -- most importantly, these things give us deeper perspective on ourselves and afford the opportunity for self-reflection and growth. That's ultimately what it's all about: improving ourselves, achieving our goals, and helping others. In my opinion, tutoring perfectly embodies these principles and any good tutor will constantly strive for these ideals with every student.

Having over 10 years of experience as a second language educator at the novice and intermediate level, from the K-12 age group to the university, I have learned to keep in mind external factors that affect the students’ development as a second language learner. My approach to this issue has always been and will continue to be proactive, involving the cultivation of a positive rapport with the students, creation of positive and safe learning environment and a high emphasis on the content of the material. When the students are provided with comprehensive activities that are interactive, culturally significant and meaningful to everyday life, they are more likely to be motivated and focused on applying what they know from various aspects such as cultural appropriateness, prior knowledge from life situations and other disciplines to assignments or cumulative projects, rather than when they are instructed to complete individual disconnected activities that tend to bring out their frustrations and flaws in an isolated context as they are not directly presented with the significance of the tasks.

I love math! I love teaching math and love to work with students to help them grow in their understanding of math concepts! am a seasoned math teacher with a long history of successfully helping my students achieve significant growth in their mathematics studies. I graduated from Cleveland State University with a bachelors degree in math and a minor in education. I am licensed in the state of Ohio to teach math grades 7-12. I have also earned a masters degree in educational technology and took courses to get my principal license. I have worked in public urban schools for the past 26 years either teaching math, tutoring students or in an administrative capacity. I enjoy working with and helping students of all ages from kindergarten through high school. My areas of expertise are Algebra 1 and Geometry although I have helped and tutored students from kindergarten through grade 12. I am very good at breaking math concepts down and showing a number of different ways to look at and solve problems. I believe that all students are capable of achieving at high levels and I do everything in my power to ensure that happens for every kid I work with! When I tutor students, I try to make it as interactive as possible and get my students to be active participants. The best way to learn and understand math is by trying your hardest, being willing to make mistakes and accepting help when you don't understand. I look forward to meeting and helping additional students through Varsity Tutors!

If there is anything I could teach it would be everything I know. I've learned all kinds of skills and trades over the years, however it always boils down to what you want to ultimately do and focus on the best path that will get you there. My university and college degrees are in Communication and Media Arts, with a focus on Film and Digital Video. I have a passion for creativity and appreciating the voices of individual artists. For a little over a year, I taught ESL in China. The experience was so wonderful I didn't want to leave it. However, I had an opportunity to teach in Japan, but the global pandemic closed that route. Regardless, I still seek to teach.Teaching is not only for the peer but for the instructor. Each student has troubles in various areas, but it is easy for me to point them out and teach them properly.English is my main subject to teach, especially for foreigners. I like to the other languages in the meantime which helps me to develop the skills in teaching English to those with a foreign tongue. To bring about the ability of pronouncing correctly or truly getting down the grammar and vocabulary.Other subjects are math and science, but I'm interested in teaching basics of other languages that I have learned as well.I enjoy teaching in a classroom setting but I prefer one on one as it is much more fulfilling that I can focus on that individuals needs. I look forward to providing my students not just with knowledge but the tools and courage to learn.

Hello, I am Gwendolyn. I am interested in helping students of all ages with their schoolwork so that they can succeed. I first began tutoring in junior high as a volunteer. I assisted students with their homework. After obtaining a B.S. in Psychology, I worked as an instructional assistant at a Sp. Ed. school for children with learning and behavioral difficulties called Springer School and Center. I helped students with their classwork, specifically in math. In this job experience, I also had the opportunity to tutor students after school. In the summer of 2025, I obtained an M.S. in School Psychology. I had a practicum where I utilized various strategies to help students with their reading, writing, and math work. As a practicum student, I also implemented a lesson plan to help students with their sight words. I created my own worksheets to help the students with the lesson plan. While working at Springer and completing graduate school, I gained a great deal of experience with behavioral management. For instance, I worked as a counselor in the Cleveland Clinic's ADHD Summer Treatment Program for two summers. There, I worked with children with ADHD and behavioral difficulties. I utilized reinforcement to increase appropriate behaviors and punishment for inappropriate behaviors via a token economy. As a tutor, I would welcome working with children with ADHD or other learning/focusing challenges. As your personalized tutor, I can assist with homework and help students with writing formal papers. Throughout college, I learned how to write scientific and formal papers. I can help all-age students with brainstorming ideas, finding sources, and properly citing and formatting papers. In college, I learned a great deal about psychology, such as child development. Hence, I could help undergraduate students understand psychology concepts so that they can adequately complete their schoolwork and master topics. I am here to support. I am passionate about helping students progress in their education and learning.
