I'm an educator with a decade of experience in group and one-on-one instruction. I hold a Master's in English and a Bachelor's in English and Philosophy. I have worked in a variety of educational settings, serving developmentally and culturally diverse learners from the pre-K to the graduate level. Throughout my career as an educator, I have been responsible for developing and implementing curricula for these learners, upholding and modelling academic and professional standards, representing institutions of learning at conferences across the country, and participating in programming for both adults and children.I prefer one-on-one tutoring and enjoy engaging my students with fun and challenging works. I like to apply literature and philosophy to real world situations to allow my students to fully understand the relevance and necessity of knowing and using literacy skills in their everyday lives. I taught ESL, freshman comp, and technical writing at CWRU. I taught English, algebra, and ESL for 4 years at the Andrews School private day and boarding school. I taught English at Webb School of Knoxville with an emphasis on writing and grammar.My experiences with ESL, as well as graduate level linguistic courses and the particular attention I paid to the writing process, give me the grammatical knowledge most English majors never get. My work with students on not only the revision process but in the realm of asking for and giving valuable feedback on content before editing makes me an excellent writing coach.

I have a Masters in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University. I have tutored students throughout my academic career and gained further experience when I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at CWRU. I have helped students with Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry as well as Physical Chemistry. My most knowledgeable field would be Biochemistry.

Education is far more profound than just learning lessons, attending class, and turning in assignments. I consider education as the key ingredient to the success of an individual and strength of a nation or body of people. The pursuit of knowledge creates endless opportunity for a student. As a recent graduate with a degree in Political Science and minor in Public Leadership, I am prepared to effectively guide tomorrow’s leaders individually one step at a time.I, like most recent college graduates, am adjusting to life after college. After five years of being a collegiate student athlete at three different institutions I have realized my passion for education and individual development. As such, I have much experience in mentoring, coaching, and tutoring young adults of various ages. A Political Science degree allows me to cover a vast number of different subjects within the social sciences and humanities including American History, European and World History, Government, Geography, etc. Furthermore, I am a polished writer and great with literature enabling me to help with writing and editing essays. Although education and individual development are central passions, I do have many other areas of interest. I love to travel and tour, playing and watching sports (especially college football), and listen to music! I graduated from Hiram College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. I studied the history of ethics and epistemology in Western thought, particular attention paid to Plato, Aristotle, Kant, and Foucault. I served as a teaching assistant for a colloquium on Buddhism as a college student and have worked in a library for the past two years.I am currently tutoring in the following subject areas: writing, literature, English, GRE verbal, and graduate test preparation.I enjoy painting, reading, and ice skating.

I am a Hiram College graduate, and I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, with a focus on Ornithology and Wildlife Rehabilitation. I also successfully pursued minor concentrations in Writing and Biomedical Humanities.While attending Hiram, I worked for several years at the on-campus Writing Center, where I was available for in-person appointments to help students review their persuasive and personal response essays, thesis statements, resumes, and college applications. I also spent one year tutoring for Hiram's Weekend College students, doing online and in-person tutoring for Writing and Composition classes.I am available to tutor students in Writing (fiction, non-fiction, literary journalism, and memoir), Literature, English, and Introductory Biology subjects, as well as ISEE preparation.I have a always had a passion for writing, with a particular interest in creative non-fiction and memoir, but I enjoy tutoring all aspects of the subjectWith any of these Writing/English subjects, I like to ask the student lots of questions about his or her work. I want to know the ideas that are driving their argument or thesis, whether or not they are answering the assigned question or problem, and how they are attempting to achieve a coherent, engaging piece. If the student has trouble answering questions about their piece, we work through the trouble areas to make them more cohesive, whether that be by changing the grammar, order of ideas, or overarching themes. I want to listen to the student, because only they know what they are trying to convey with their piece; I am just here to make their argument more solid.When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy many hobbies. These include reading countless books, listening to my favorite bands, watching anime, and caring for my pets (which include a special-needs cocker spaniel and several geckos!). I also really enjoy being outdoors, and I am an avid birder and volunteer with local wildlife rehabilitation organizations.

I attended a small private liberal arts college for my undergrad which allowed me the opportunity to explore multiple fields of interest. I have a BA with majors in history and political science in minors in Asian studies and international politics. I took a year off of school to try my hand at working. During that year I worked at a living history site, where I educated visitors of all ages on early American history. I went back to grad school for a Master's in Public Administration with a specialty in Organizational Development. I worked full time while putting myself through grad school. It's important to gain life experience as well as educational experience. Both make you a well-rounded lifelong learner. I continued to work as a nontraditional educator in parks in recreation. Once I earned by MPA, I went back to school (again while working full time) and earned my Doctorate in Education. I love helping students of all ages learn about history, earth science, political philosophy and literature. In my free time I coach softball and soccer--two sports I played at varsity level in college.

Teaching has been my passion from an early age. I have always enjoyed assisting students in their learning and their development of critical thinking skills. My education has been primarily focused on education and two specific content areas. I have a bachelor's degree from Hiram College in English and History. I also obtained a master's degree in Educational Studies with a minor in History from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in English from Cleveland State University. Along with my educational degrees, I am certified to teach 7-12 English and History. I have enjoyed a varied career in education working as an adjunct professor, substitute teacher, and tutor. I have worked with a diverse group of students from k-12 and adult learners as well as students with special needs and ESL students. Tutoring has been the highlight of my career. I see students improved most rapidly when given individualized attention and lessons. I thoroughly enjoy working one-on-one with students to both strength their understanding of a concept and improve areas of weakness.

I believe that students today learn best by being part of an open and nonjudgmental educational environment where their opinions and past experiences are valued. Tutoring has taught me that it is not enough to just state what I know to a student. Effective and long-lasting tutoring comes from assessing how a student thinks, and then tweaking my teaching style to a way that makes sense to them.I studied Neuroscience and Biomedical Humanities during my four years at Hiram College. My coursework consisted of a variety of subjects in biology, chemistry, math, Spanish, and English. I plan on continuing on to a master's program for the next school year. I am able to tutor a wide variety of subjects, including middle school and high school biology, chemistry, English, Spanish, and Pre-Algebra to Algebra II. I am also able to help with creating effective study techniques for the high school and college years, as well as tutoring all four subjects of the ACT.

I am currently a third year PhD student at The Ohio State University for physical chemistry. I recently completed my undergraduate education with bachelor's degrees in music and chemistry. I was trained at my undergraduate institution, Hiram College, as a writing tutor, but I have also tutored subjects that I have experience or performed well in, such as chemistry, music, math, and physics. I really enjoy tutoring for the ACT because I like to show students new ways to think of standardized testing and further push them to be successful not only on the test but in school in general. I approach tutoring in a very casual manner; I like to be personable with my students and involve them in a very prominent way. Outside of academia, I am a runner and a musician. I am training for my second half marathon now! I play viola in several orchestras, a quartet, and my own church.

I am a graduate of Hiram College with a degree in Biology. Hiram is a liberal arts school, so I have experiences outside of the sciences also. During my time in college, I was a teaching assistant for several literature classes and also tutored students who took various levels of Spanish. Every student is different and learns in a unique way. It's important to recognize these differences and help students develop their strengths instead of focusing on flaws. With the right tools, anyone can learn. I am a Biology tutor as well as a Spanish tutor, and both topics provide different challenges. With hard work and determination, I believe any student can accomplish their goals.

After being a stay at home mom for 15 years, I went back to school to obtain my teaching licensure and my Reading Endorsement for grades K-12 at Ashland University. During my time at Ashland, I was required to complete several hours of tutoring for both high school and elementary students and found that I love helping students on a one on one basis. I have been tutoring for 18 months. I believe in teaching to the individual student. I have developed a hybrid approach to teaching which incorporates different aspects of various styles and gives me the flexibility to tailor a personal style that is right for each student and their coursework.My favorite subject to tutor is reading. Reading was difficult for me as a student, especially during high school and college. I feel that so much time is spent teaching students to learn to read and never enough time teaching them to read to learn. I believe that if a student can be successfully in reading,including comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary, then they can be successful in every other aspect of life!I am available for tutoring at the Elementary level in the subjects of English, reading, writing, grammar, phonics, and mathematics.In my spare time, I enjoy reading suspenseful mysteries, swimming, running, and even still compete in Irish Step Dancing.
