Writing is a passion of unexplainable intensity to me. Every day I think about the ways I can be a better writer, which often makes me a better thinker, and that's what I desire for everyone I tutor to also feel. That's the philosophy I've approached tutoring with in the past, both officially and unofficially, academically or otherwise.I not only want more people to feel excitement when it comes to writing, but I also want them to feel a sense of confidence. It is such a fun, and explorative, outlet for me and I find it hard not to want to share that experience with others, even if it is not also their passion. I hope that I can open doors in the minds of my students that help them consider writing in ways they never have before, rather than as an academic chore or boring mode of conveying information. No matter where my path in life takes me, that's always my first and foremost driving vision as a writing, and overall English, enthusiast. I hope to use my current BA in English, and eventual MFA in Creative Writing, to continue aiming towards this ever-evolving goal.

I graduated from NC State University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. I aspired to become a veterinarian. After struggling in my entry-level Chemistry and calculus classes but excelling in history, English, and Literature classes, I realized that my gifts were in these areas as opposed to science and higher math. I also realized that teaching was my calling after earning my teaching certification from UNC-Charlotte. However, I love science! Although I was initially certified in Biology, my first teaching position was teaching physical science. I LOVED IT! I taught myself physics and eventually earned my AP Physics 1 certification from College Board. It was the journey into physics that revealed my strengths in applying physics to Real World phenomena,I have taught physical science, physics, AP Physics 1, Algebra I, literature, and grammar. I have worked 1 to 1 teaching homebound students in science, and literature. My love of history makes me passionate about it as well! I read nonfiction American history as a hobby! I also have traveled extensively in the Lower 48 States with North Dakota, Oregon, Louisiana, Alaska, and Hawaii being the only states I have never visited. I earned my National Board for Professional Teaching certification in high school science with a concentration in physics. My love of physics is only paralleled by my love of reading. I believe that we are all lifelong learners!

I am a recent graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, PA where I earned my Bachelors Degree of Business Administration. I was an accounting major and an MIS minor and currently work in a staff accountant role while I continue to study for the CPA exams.Throughout high school and college, I tutored many students and friends in a variety of business classes. My favorite subject to tutor is accounting, but I also enjoy helping others learn finance, economics, and even MIS.In my free time I enjoy biking around the country, playing basketball, reading, and teaching accounting.

I am a new graduate of Pomona College, in Claremont, CA, where I studied Religion and Philosophy. While there, I wrote many papers of a wide variety, working on strong arguments, organization, and phrasing. I peer edited as well as volunteering with groups that mentored high school students, focusing on college admissions work, continuing and expanding my experiences from high school of tutoring for standardized testing. Additionally, I taught beginning violin to younger children.I like to tutor basic math, as helping students understand the basic concepts and learn to apply them by themselves is very rewarding--give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, but teach him to fish and he'll be set for life, type of deal. My favorite, however, is to tutor writing and reading, as these are my own favorite things to do. I think the art of writing is one of the most important, as it effects how you present yourself, as well as how convincing your work is. There is nothing that does not, at least in part, require writing skills--even scientists and mathematicians have to publish papers.In my free time, I love to read and discuss philosophy, religion, and human nature with friends (I am the epitome of the liberal arts student--I love to learn, and hope to do so for my whole life). I am also outdoorsy, and I love to hike and backpack, as well as horseback ride (used to compete in hunter-jumpers, now somewhat limited but I ride when I can). Music is my other major activity, and I sing classical soprano, play violin, and can do some basic guitar--enough to accompany myself and friends when we sing folk songs and popular music, and to support us as we make up harmonies.Travel is also extremely important to me, and I've spent a lot of time in South Asia, especially, from studying abroad there to trekking to volunteering. I think the challenges of travelling in unfamiliar places is incredibly mind opening and helps us to understand the world around us, which is one of the most important things to do in this globalizing world.
