For the majority, I taught in English immersion programs, teaching everything from phonics and essay writing to science and math. I had students of all levels: younger students who were still learning to read, write, and tie their shoes, older students attempting to enter international or American/British high schools and universities, and adults who wanted to brush up or continue to learn more.I enjoy working with students and seeing them learn and make progress. I like to think that learning anything can be fun. It all depends on the approach you take. During my time in Japan, I continued to study Japanese myself, passing the highest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency test. Preparing for the different levels of the test constantly reminded me of challenges people can come across trying to obtain a goal.When I have free time, I like to catch a new movie (or an old one that's new to me), take pictures, or head outside and see what I can find. Being a student who needs a variety of teaching techniques, I understand that you need to find fun and unique ways to learn and retain what you're learning. Right now, I'm received my Bachelor's of Science degree in Physics, with a minor in Japanese and Mathematics. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Philosophy in Experimental Nuclear Physics at Vanderbilt University. Math and science were subjects I formerly thought I was not good at and did not enjoy, until I found teachers and tutors who got me excited me about STEM experiments and discoveries, and encouraged me to learn more. I hope that I can inspire students who feel they are not good at math and science, and therefore do not enjoy it, to learn the beauty in those subjects and enjoy what they're learning.
