Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session we focused primarily on conversation. We discussed a variety of topics including health, exercise and travel. We will continue to focus on vocabulary, verbs and tenses."
"Today we wrote down and discussed five new American idioms and slang words. We also discussed the student's neighborhood and habits. I left her with song lyrics to fill in. I think she is making continued progress with her conversational skills."
"We began today by reviewing the pronunciation of regular past tense verbs. The student seemed much more comfortable saying them. I had him review the vocabulary he had trouble remembering and introduced ten new words. Again, we did the exercises from the TOEFL book. The short passage from that book led into reading a longer passage from the actual test. It was about early cinema technology. At the end, he said the passage was difficult for him, but he had done great answering the TOEFL questions. To stay on the cinema theme, I brought in clips and a trailer from a documentary about the digital revolution in modern movie making. I asked him questions about what the different directors said, so he had to understand and explain different viewpoints. His homework is to write notes/definitions in either English or Spanish for the flashcards I made."
"The student wrote and I helped him revise parts of his book report. He needed help some with sentence structure. I left him to finish his final slide before we are scheduled to meet again, and to find a book he enjoys reading."
"The student wrote the assignment for his world lit class. We worked on finding explanations for including each work. He will contact me after his next class meeting to schedule our next tutoring session."
"The student wrote the sight word "see" several times. She also practiced writing numbers 1-5. In addition, the student was asked to identify several sight words beginning with letters A to C. The student showed some progress with writing and sight words. I left her with a worksheet to practice the letter A."
