Whether you are just beginning your preparation for the ACT or have run into an obstacle part of the way through, Varsity Tutors can help you get ready for the test by setting you up with Detroit ACT prep. While most high school students in the Detroit area, such as students at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy and Detroit Cristo Rey High School, take the SAT, some students decide to take the ACT in addition if they are interested in attending a college or university.
The ACT is used by many colleges and universities as a part of their admissions process. As such, it can be important for students to perform well on this test if they want to increase their chances of getting into the college or university of their dreams.
The ACT is made up of five different sections. It covers a lot of different material, which means that it can be rather daunting to prepare for. Working through a Detroit ACT prep can prove useful when preparing for the exam in terms of reviewing the material that you'll see on test day. You can sign up for a Detroit ACT prep class provided by Varsity Tutors.
What can Detroit ACT prep cover?
Detroit ACT prep can cover a lot of different areas. The ACT covers four main sections and also includes an optional Writing section. If you decide to complete the Writing section, it will add an additional 40 minutes to the testing time. The four main sections of the test cover English, Math, Reading, and Science.
The English section contains 75 multiple choice questions, and you will receive 45 minutes to complete it. This section requires you to read passages and revise and edit the text found in those passages. You will also be asked to read these passages and answer questions about the information contained within them. Some of the questions will focus on the passage in its entirety while other questions will zero in on specific sentences. Additionally, you may also be asked to answer questions concerning the grammar, tone, and writing style of the various passages.
The Math section consists of 60 multiple choice questions and you will have 60 minutes to finish it. This section covers a variety of math-related topics, including pre-algebra, intermediate algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. You'll be expected to know how to interpret equations, solving and graphing expressions, and analyzing data, among other topics.
The Reading section consists of 40 multiple choice questions and you will receive 35 minutes to complete this section. Similarly to the English section, the Reading section contains several reading passages. However, this section is more focused on comprehending the passages rather than the mechanical and technical aspects of the passages. This section is designed to measure your ability to use multiple sources to make decisions, your ability to read a text closely, and your ability to reason logically.
Finally, the Science section contains 40 multiple choice questions and you will have 35 minutes to complete it. This section is designed to look at your ability to problem solve, reason, and analyze information from a scientific standpoint. In terms of subject areas, this section covers physics, space science, earth science, chemistry, and biology.
What are the benefits of different types of Detroit ACT preparation?
As you work on preparing for the ACT, Varsity Tutors can set you up with two different types of review, including prep courses and private tutoring. Each of these options has unique benefits, but many students benefit from utilizing both options.
ACT prep courses include working with an instructor and other students. A Detroit ACT prep class is designed to be similar to a classroom-based course but takes place in an online environment for added convenience. You can choose between a two or four-week course depending on your needs. The prep class has a set curriculum and allows for a more discussion-based format. This option can be beneficial because it tends to be structured. However, if you have specific questions about a particular topic, you can also have one-on-one time with your instructor where you can ask questions. This option could also be useful for people who prefer to work in a group setting.
If you prefer more personal attention, working with a Detroit ACT tutor can be helpful. There are several ways in which a private instructor can help you prepare for the ACT. One of the biggest focuses when it comes to your preparation involves reviewing material that may show up on the exam. Working with an ACT tutor can help in this regard because your tutor can work with you at your preferred pace. You can also have more control over what topics you cover.
Additionally, working with a tutor can help in terms of having someone to explain material in a way that matches your exact learning style. This can be more difficult to achieve in a group setting because everyone in the group may not learn in the same way. It may not be possible for the instructor to teach the material in multiple different ways. Your tutor can identify how you learn and use different approaches that resonate with you.
How can I find ACT review in Detroit?
Varsity Tutors can help you connect with the type of ACT review that works best for your needs. Whether you feel like you could benefit more from working in a group setting in a Detroit ACT prep course or you prefer a more individual approach by working with a private instructor, we can help you get started.
One of the greatest benefits of these is that either option can take place online. As such, it is easier to find an option that works best for you. You can meet with your instructor or attend your online class anywhere that you have a stable Internet connection. If you feel like you could benefit from taking a Detroit ACT prep course or working with a Detroit ACT tutor, contact Varsity Tutors either online or over the phone.

I am a board-certified, licensed naturopathic doctor. Before becoming a doctor I spent several years tutoring and teaching. I have worked with students of all ages, from 3 year olds learning phonics to graduate students studying histology and physiology. I specialize in general sciences, medical sciences, reading comprehension, literary analysis, and composition. I love working with students of all ages and I love to teach.... I love teaching and I love working with kids. I understand that a good teacher needs to combine perception, patience, persistence, and respect. A gifted teacher discerns the uniqueness in each learner, and then tailors their lesson to that learner. I am able to recognize my students' learning needs, and I shape my language in a way that makes information more accessible and digestible. I believe passionately that education elevates both the student and the community, and I approach teaching with the seriousness and devotion that every learner deserves.
