Varsity Tutors can help you prepare for your college admission exams by signing you up for a reliable Charlotte North Carolina ACT course. The ACT is one of the two college admission tests widely accepted by many schools. Therefore, by preparing adequately for your test, you could improve the likelihood of scoring well and gaining admittance to your preferred university.
The ACT is made up of four major sections and will take 2 hours 55 minutes to complete each required section. An ACT course can help ensure you are fully prepared and ready to tackle the content you will face during this exam. The ACT is one of the college admissions exam of choice for many high school students in Charlotte, including students from Ardrey Kell High School and Myers Park High School.
What does Charlotte ACT Course cover?
The ACT consists of four sections: Math, English, Science, and Reading, and includes a Writing section that is optional for each student. While you are not required to complete the writing portion, it is an excellent opportunity to showcase your ability to organize and construct well-written arguments. If you do choose to include the Writing section in your exam, it will be the final task that you will need to complete and add an additional 40 minutes to your testing time.
The English section consists of 75 questions which should be answered within 45 minutes. The section measures your understanding of English and your knowledge of language skills. You will be presented with short passages and then need to respond to specific questions regarding what you just read. For some answers, you will need to consider the entire written passage, while others will require a more focused analysis of specifically stated content. This section is made up of multiple-choice questions and scored with a scale of 1 - 36. Your topic development, ability to organize sentences, and language skills will be tested throughout this area of the test.
The Math Section measures the mathematical skills you have acquired through the beginning of grade 12. You will have 60 minutes to complete the 60 questions in this section. This means that you will have an average of one minute to tackle each question, so it is important that you manage your time effectively. The subjects tested include coordinate and plane geometry, pre-algebra, intermediate algebra, and trigonometry.
The Reading section measures your abilities to use texts to reason logically and use various sources of information to make decisions. The questions will deal with overall comprehension and only allows 35 minutes for you to answer 40 multiple-choice questions. You should be able to determine word phrases and their meanings, differentiate between facts and opinions, and make connections between different texts.
Science is another area on the exam that you will come across. The questions are in a multiple-choice style, and you will have 35 minutes to answer all 40 questions. This section seeks to evaluate your problem solving, reasoning, and scientific analysis skills. There are four subjects tested in the section which include chemistry, biology, physics, and earth sciences. It will prove helpful to familiarize yourself with the Scientific Method along with other tools and procedures as you prepare for this section of the exam.
The final and optional Writing section will require to compose and essay-style response to one prompt. This segment helps schools evaluate your ability to draft and organize thoughts, compare perspectives, and present information in a clear and logical way. Your essay should be grammatically correct and incorporate well-developed ideas.
