Varsity Tutors can help you in preparing for the MCAT with an Albuquerque MCAT course. The MCAT is a standardized, multiple-choice test that most medical schools in the United States and Canada look for when accepting applications. You will want to take it the year before you intend to enter med school and make sure you prepare at least three to five months before your MCAT test date.
The MCAT is just one of the requirements used by medical schools like The University of New Mexico School of Medicine when making admission decisions, but there are schools that weigh your MCAT score heavily and some even set minimum cut-off MCAT scores. Therefore, if you want to increase your chances of getting into the med school you want, you have to give your time and dedication to your MCAT prep study.
With an Albuquerque MCAT class provided by Varsity Tutors, you can receive a thorough review handled by a highly qualified and knowledgeable instructor. Studying with an academic mentor is not only important for acquiring the academic skills you need for the test but also very helpful in addressing confusing problems and concepts. You can ask questions and get relevant and specific answers in real time. You can also learn topics faster and gain the confidence you need for the exam day.
What could an Albuquerque MCAT course help me review?
In your MCAT course, you will become more familiar with the content and layout of the test, which is composed of four sections: Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Critical Analysis, and Reasoning Skills, Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior.
In Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, there will be 59 questions made up of 15 independent questions and 10 passage-based question sets, with each set containing 4 to 6 questions. These questions will test you on basic biological and physical sciences involving human tissues, organs, and organ systems. You will also need to demonstrate your skills in scientific inquiry and reasoning, different research methods, and statistics as applied to the natural sciences. You will have 95 minutes to answer the questions for this section.
In Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, there will be 53 questions that are composed of 9 passage-based sets. Each set may have between 5 and 7 questions that test your ability to analyze arguments and draw inferences from the passages. Unlike the other sections that all test you on prior content knowledge, this section will only test you on information found in the passages. You have to finish this section in 90 minutes.
In Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, there will be 59 questions made up of 15 independent questions and another 10 passage-based question sets, with each set containing 4 to 6 questions. These questions test you on biology and biochemistry and cover the subjects of general and organic chemistry, introductory biology, and basic biochemistry. In order to do well in this section, you have to demonstrate your knowledge in life processes and how organisms act to accomplish these processes. This includes reproduction, growth, movement, the use of energy, and adaptation. You will have 95 minutes to complete the questions in this section.
In Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior, there will also be 59 questions-15 independent questions and 10 passage-based question sets that may have between 4 and 5 questions in each set. The questions test you on sociology and psychology applied in the context of biological sciences. This means you need to have an understanding of how behavior affects health and you will be tested on concepts such as behavior and behavior changes, perceptions and reactions to the world, and influences of culture and society on well-being. You have to finish this section in 95 minutes.
These sections can be very challenging considering that they are also integrated sections, which means areas of concentration overlap. The sections are made this way in order to reflect how medical students encounter these subjects in the real world. When you start your Albuquerque MCAT class, you will begin to work on problems for these four sections and familiarize yourself on helpful techniques on how to answer each of them.
