I am a graduate of SUNY Empire State University. I received my Bachelor's degree in Cultural Studies and I am currentlt taking the last two classes to complete my Master's degree in Special Education, grades 1-6. I am most passionate about History, and English; more specifically reading, writing, vocabulary and spelling. I do enjoy literature, such as children's literature (which was one of my favorite college classes), young adult literature, multicultural United States fiction, and literature of World War II and the Holocaust. While working on my associate's degree I tutored at the college's writing and reading center. This was an honor because a professor recommends a student and there is a special class you must take before you begin tutoring.
As an educator, I believe that every student has the capacity to learn, grow, and succeed when provided with the right support, encouragement, and opportunities. My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that learning should be student-centered, responsive to individual needs, and rooted in mutual respect and trust. I aim to create an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning environment where students feel empowered to take academic risks and develop confidence in their abilities.
In my tutoring practice, I emphasize patience, clarity, and encouragement. I take the time to understand each student's learning style, strengths, and areas for growth, and I tailor my approach to meet those specific needs. I break down complex concepts into manageable steps, use real-world examples to make learning more relevant, and provide frequent, constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
My style is collaborative and supportive. I ask guiding questions, encourage students to think critically, and help them build the skills they need to become independent learners. I also value open communication with both students and parents, especially when setting goals and tracking progress.
Above all, I strive to inspire a love of learning and help students develop a growth mindset, where effort, perseverance, and self-belief are recognized as key ingredients to success.
In my spare time I like to read and write poetry, watching sports, spending time with my family, and gardening.
