Why Choose Varsity Tutors for Science Tutoring

Dedicated Private Science Tutoring Online

Varsity Tutors is a powerful educational resource that will connect you or your student with an experienced science tutor in as little as 24 hours. Whether you are looking for a private tutor or a collaborative learning environment where you can bounce ideas off of your peers, our advanced tutor-matching tools can help you find a great fit.

Here are some of the benefits of online science tutoring:

  • Personalized instruction
  • The freedom to study at your natural pace
  • Study sessions that revolve around your needs
  • Prompt feedback on all completed work
  • A safe learning space where questions are actively encouraged

Proven Science Help For All Levels

Students are encouraged to ask questions about the world around them from a very young age, marking the beginning of science education. A professional science tutor can help your student frame their questions in a way where they can be tested, preparing them to study the Scientific Method later on.

Alternatively, your student's instructor can review active reading techniques such as the effective use of a highlighter to help them get more out of assigned textbook passages. If you are struggling with the math involved in a high school lab, your tutor can backtrack and give you the quantitative foundation you need in your course. In short, students of all ages can potentially benefit from formal science tutoring.

Improve Grades and Test Scores In Science

Federal Common Core standards call for the regular assessment of a student's scientific knowledge beginning in Grade 5 and continuing throughout high school. If you or your student deal with test anxiety, your instructor can share proven test-taking strategies to help you calm your nerves.

For instance, you can get a jolt of self-confidence if you manage to use the information contained in one question to answer another item on the exam. Your instructor can also teach you how to rule out some of the answer choices on a multiple-choice test, improving the odds that any guesses you take prove correct.

How much does a science tutor cost?

The cost of private instruction depends on a student's specific needs, including the material they'd like to review and how regularly they meet their instructor. For example, a young student who needs help understanding photosynthesis would likely pay a different rate than a college student investigating advanced quantum physics.

If you're on a budget, you may want to look into taking an online Varsity Tutors science class or group tutoring as more affordable ways to get the support you're looking for. Reach out to one of our friendly Educational Directors for more info on these options.

The student and I focused on spelling, science and math today. We went over her new spelling words, we then went over her new unit in science. We discussed heredity and key vocabulary. We then moved on to math and discussed three dimensional shapes.

The student and I studied for his Biology test by reviewing worksheets, looking through the chapter, making flashcards and discussing some subjects. I gave him some study tips as well. Afterwards, we went over his Grammar homework and, discussed subject verb agreement, with compound subjects and more irregular subjects, such as: groups of people, teams, works of art or literature, and subject- verb agreement in passive construction of sentences. He seemed to grasp all the subjects well.

Reviewed Newton's laws, with special emphasis on the concept of inertia. Practiced problems using the equations for acceleration (F=ma and a=dV/t). Worked through different inertia situations (e.g. dropping a penny while in an airplane) together until the student was solid on the concept. Spent last 20 minutes on Spanish (chapter 4 vocabulary, and reviewing conjugation of -ar verbs.)

We spent the session reviewing for the student's Physics test, which will be tomorrow. He had already had a test on Chapter 12, which encompassed Newton's 3 Laws and Momentum. We reviewed his test and the corresponding material, focusing on the differences between elastic and inelastic momentum. We did practice calculations, as he had trouble with the extra credit momentum problem on the test. We spent the rest of the session going over material from Chapter 14, which details Work, Power, and Mechanical Advantage. Michael had little trouble understanding work and power, and we did practice problems and discussed the importance of knowing the units for the variables in question. We spent a good deal of time talking about Mechanical Advantage and machines, and I explained how machines make our lives easier by allowing us to use less or more force to move things farther or shorter distances. We finished by discussing the simple machines (lever, pulley, wheel and axle, etc.).

Yesterday, the student and I went over her most recent Science unit, Ionic and Covalent bonds, in preparation for her test today. I quizzed her on the names and chemical formulas of various ionic and covalent compounds, and also went over concepts such as electro-negativity, ionization energies, and general definitions (poly-atomic ions, etc.).
