Dedicated Private French Tutoring Online

If you or the student in your life could benefit from working with a private French tutor, Varsity Tutors can arrange your choice of private instruction or group tutoring. Learning French offers many potential benefits, including expanding your professional opportunities, making the most of your vacations, or simply passing a French course in high school.

Here are some of the benefits associated with private French tutoring:

  • Individualized instruction
  • Prompt feedback on all of your work
  • An expert instructor capable of fielding any questions you may have
  • The flexibility to learn at your preferred pace
  • And much more!

Learn French From Experienced Teachers

Most language experts agree that simulated immersion (or completely surrounding yourself with the language you're trying to learn) is the best way to learn a foreign language. Working with an experienced French tutor allows you to hear what French is supposed to sound like, including sounds produced by accent marks and letter combinations that do not exist in English.

If you're an advanced student, your instructor can even conduct entire lessons in French to push you to improve.

Your instructor can also teach you mnemonic devices to help you remember the definitions of French words. For instance, "coca" sounds like the name-brand Coke, a fact that could help you remember the French word for soda pop.

Improve Grades and Test Scores In French

If you're taking French in an educational setting, a French tutor can also help you prepare for your exams. For instance, your instructor can provide French-language passages to help you prepare for a test's reading section.

Your instructor can also evaluate you as you work and provide advice on how you might be able to do better next time. For instance, it may prove beneficial to write down what a paragraph means so you don't need to translate the same section multiple times. Likewise, your instructor can recommend daily exercises to reinforce your knowledge of French. For example, writing your weekly shopping list in French could be a great way to practice.

How much does a French tutor cost?

The price of private French tutoring depends entirely on a student's specific needs. For example, a novice who is studying how to conjugate -ir verbs may pay a different hourly rate than a college student studying French history and culture through primary sources.

Similarly, you'll pay a different rate for last-minute cram sessions than you would on a set tutoring schedule. Varsity Tutors also offers a live French class and group tutoring if you're interested in more affordable options. Contact us online or by phone today to learn more about how we could help you.

How does online French tutoring work?

Our Live Learning Platform is one of the best reasons to choose Varsity Tutors. Our platform is essentially a virtual classroom equipped with a multitude of great features to bring a face-to-face study experience to your fingertips.

Your instructor can use the included virtual whiteboard to show you what words look like, making them easier to use yourself. Video chat also allows you to see and hear your instructor as if you were in the same room, helping you get a feel for the flow of the language. Best of all, every study session is recorded automatically for future reference.

Are French tutors worth it?

The marketplace is filled with language-learning solutions, but most of them follow rigid curricula with no flexibility to adapt to an individual's needs. Working with a live instructor allows them to adjust your lessons in real-time.

If you pick something up immediately, your French tutor can quickly move on to something else to keep your sessions as engaging as possible. If you're having a tougher time remembering the difference between feminine and masculine words, your instructor can keep explaining them to you until you signal a readiness to move on. Software simply isn't as responsive.

Contact an Educational Director right now to find out more about the benefits of private instruction! You'll be happy you did.

First session: We covered pronunciation including not saying the last letters of words and how to do R's. We did the alphabet and greetings as well as other basics including I'm hungry, do you have, where is, and the interrogatives. We went over the pronouns, how cava works, and how you respond to it.

The student and I worked on direct and indirect objects after reviewing the imparfait/passé compose. I was happy to see that she had purchased her own copy of the book I lent her, "Ultimate French Review," and has been doing exercises and studying it. She grasped the concept of the direct and indirect object pronouns well, and just needs to keep practicing to get used to the different word order from English.

Went over the student's mid-term and discussed some of the past concepts such as definite or indefinite article usage and certain idioms. Then we looked over chapter 4 on which she'll have a quiz this week. Spent most of the session on oral comprehension and dictation by reading aloud from the book and translating or transcribing, rather than the concepts.

Student A--we finished French 6th chapter playing games to learn numbers better. the student was amazingly on task! Student B and I watched Le petit Nicolas #10, and then went over the beginning of the transcript for #1 actually reading and looking at the words. Every week we are rereading what we had already read in the transcript and then going a bit further. After which we rewatch the first episode up to that point. After that, we finished French unit 6 as well. He's really getting a hang of listening to French and grasping the meaning.

We reviewed and learned the future tense, the conditional, and phrase that commonly use both tenses with specific French and English translations and meanings. We also did some oral activities to work on pronunciation and fluency.

Online French Tutoring review by Andre
To prepare for the written portion of her IB exam, the student and I focused on essay organization, sentence flow, and writing strategies. We reviewed one of her written assignments for class, and went in-depth into any vocabulary or questions that came up. Topics included connotations of words, how to stay organized through topic sentences, and adding evidence to support points. I encouraged the student to use a lot of idioms (such as "de nos temps" for "nowadays") to show evidence of her French skills to an essay grader.
