I have a highly diverse educational background, most recently graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. Before that I obtained a J.D. from Lewis and Clark Northwestern School of Law and have been a licensed attorney for more than a decade. I also have a master's degree in Environmental and Natural Resources Science from the University of Nevada, Reno, and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Microbiology. I began tutoring Biology while working towards my bachelor's degree and have taught or assisted in teaching a variety of science courses throughout my academic career including classes ranging from wetlands ecology and microbiology to biochemistry and molecular biology labs. I have also published scientific articles in peer reviewed journals on topics including biogeochemical nutrient cycling, transcriptomics and enzyme function. I am most interested in teaching courses in the fields of environmental and biological sciences but also enjoy tutoring law and legal writing. Molecular biology is my favorite course as it involves employing methods to study the fascinating and highly complex interactions between molecules that provide the foundation for life. I find tutoring to be highly rewarding as it leads to interactions that not only increase the student's understanding of a subject but can also provide valuable insights for the tutor as well. My preferred teaching style involves tackling complex concepts with students using a more interactive approach as opposed to one-sided lecturing with rote memorization. It is my belief that understanding a concept is much more exciting and beneficial than just memorizing material and leads to a much stronger foundation for future endeavors in academia or industry. Outside of tutoring and other work I enjoy reading science fiction and fantasy, gaming, hiking, coaching little league baseball and playing golf.
