I am a recent graduate of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. I received a Bachelor of Arts in English Studies, with a concentration in Pre-Law. I also double-majored in Political Science, general studies. During my time at Tech, I studied abroad for a semester in Switzerland in order to spend time preparing for a month of teaching in Rilima, Rwanda. In addition to educating young Rwandan students in the subjects of English literature, grammar, and syntax, I have spent an extensive amount of time tutoring American kids for summer camps in the DC area. Reading Shakespeare, writing plays, and teaching with those passionate young campers first instilled in me the desire to share in educational experiences with others. My teaching style rests on the belief that I have as much to learn from my students as they do from me, so I encourage open communication and space for understanding in every experience I have as a tutor. I tutor in many subjects related to the English discipline, from High School English to general test prep, but I most enjoy opportunities to discuss reading samples and other pieces of literature with my students. I enjoy all things related to reading and writing, and the satisfaction that comes with overcoming a particularly challenging prompt or essay assignment. Helping students grow their own appreciation for these aspects of the educational experience is even more gratifying. Outside of academia, I enjoy traveling to new places, as well as going on outdoor adventures with my friends.
Undergraduate Degree: Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University - Bachelor in Arts, English
I am pursuing a degree in higher education in the subject of Journalism, so I enjoy taking the time to study and stay up-to-date with news articles that interest me. I also (admittedly) enjoy the odd romance novel, whether it be Tolstoy's Anna Karenina or Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Nurturing an appreciation for the beauty of the natural world around me often propels me outdoors, as I like taking trips with friends and seeing new places.
