I've enjoyed learning Spanish since high school and now, years later, have a plethora of fond memories and experiences with it. It's not just that Spanish can help you get along when you're touring; it's the opportunity to learn about the culture, connect with native speakers and earn their approval, and even in an English-only atmosphere, feel gratification at having learned another language. Not to mention, studies show that an active brain delays dementia!
Now I am a graduate student in Audiology. I'd like to someday tackle American Sign Language head on. What drew me to a science field when my strengths lie in grammar and literacy? Outside forces, and the amazing human hearing mechanism. Ask me about it sometime.
