I give students methods, techniques, and tips for good recall. I encouraging a positive attitude in the face of frustration and difficulty. Defeat doesn't exist!
How would you help a student stay motivated?
You must focus on what you want. There must be a goal. Acknowledge your progress.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
If you're having trouble, we will go over it as many times as you need. We will put the skill in a variety of scenarios and settings to help you get there. We will come back to it if you don't get it, and keep coming back to it, until it finally settles in.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I always start out by asking what YOU (the student) want to achieve.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I promise that if you are struggling in a subject, you will get better. We will put your subject in real-life context, and we will talk (every chance we get) about why it is important to do well in the given subject they are struggling with.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
You must be able to teach the concept back to me and manipulate it with expertise. Ability to do this well guarantees testing and application success.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
We will track your progress. I will encourage you when you are frustrated. I will tell you when you are doing well!
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
We will examine your strengths and weaknesses by looking at your assignments and tests. We will examine your studying habits. We will then work to improve areas that are lacking.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I will listen to you. As long as you can tell me what works and what doesn't work for you, I will fully adapt to your learning style!
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
A computer, videos, scratch paper, whiteboards, and books.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
