What is your teaching philosophy?
To go at the student's same pace.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Try to understand where the student stands in terms of subject knowledge, and try to make sure the student is comfortable with tutoring.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Show the student different ways to access knowledge independently without the help of somebody else.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would encourage the student to keep trying harder and to not give up as there are always ways to improve oneself.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Try a different approach and teach the student the same concept from the basics.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Make them practice easy comprehensive passages and improve their word building skills.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Try to have the same chemistry as the student and be on the same page.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Give the student real time examples and talk about things that would interest the student.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Give the student tests and assignments.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Make the student practice until the student is confident.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Ask the student or the student's mentor as to where the student needs improvement. Also test results can show where the student needs to improve.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
Understand the student's needs and change the tutoring style accordingly.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Textbooks, PDFs, online journals, worksheets, calculators, and so on can be used.
