Geometry Tutoring review by Miranda in Diamond Bar, CA
We covered surface area and volume for the student's test tomorrow. We worked on practice problems off of his review sheet. I am emailing him the notes, as well as a sheet of important equations for him to review and memorize. I emphasized particularly to have him make drawings for each problem, to clarify what he is looking for.

Geometry Tutoring review by Mary Theresa in Diamond Bar, CA
The student and I covered the area and perimeter of shapes as well as right triangle similarity in preparation for her text this week. First, we went over the area and perimeter, noting useful formulas like (d^2)/2 for the area of a square and bh for the area of a parallelogram. Then, we went over right triangle similarities where one triangle was inscribed inside of the other (sharing the vertex of the 90 degree angle). He needed help the most with the common 30 60 90 rules like 1:rad3:2, so her best strategy here is often to just use the Pythagorean theorem to arrive at the length of the side. Most mistakes that were made were simple math errors rather than setting up the problem incorrectly.

The student had an upcoming geometry test. We made it through a review sheet for the quiz together. She has gotten much better at using ratios of right triangles and their altitudes.

Geometry Tutoring review by Jesse in Diamond Bar, CA
The student and I went through all of the problems from his exam. He showed that he has improved his ability to recognize special right triangles, and the relationship between circle-arc length and shaded areas. Something new that we learned was how to convert radians to degrees. This was a novel concept to him, elucidating the fact that radians are not a measure of distance, but rather are a measure of angle, similar to degrees. A few example problems and he was able to wrap his head around it well.

Geometry Tutoring review by Matjaz in Diamond Bar, CA
Today, we covered volumes of 3 dimensional bodies, from pyramids, prisms, and rectangular objects. Also, ratios of volumes, lateral surfaces, and sides of similar three dimensional objects were looked for. We learned that for similar 3D objects, ratios of volumes are always third power of ratios of sides, and ratios of areas are always ratios of sides squared. Strategies we covered included breaking up surfaces into regular or irregular polygons, esp. triangles.

Geometry Tutoring review by Kimberly in Diamond Bar, CA
We continued to review arc angles and their theorems. We were introduced to a few more theorems in the new section. I recommended that she review the chapter and theorems so she can be tested without aids. Her algebra continues to be strong and she can quickly do the algebra for a problem. With practice, I think she will get this chapter down as well. She asks great questions and stays on task. She's a pleasure to work with.
