Reading Tutoring review by Coty in Diamond Bar, CA
The student seemed to really enjoy today's change of pace, where we focused on poetry and imagery rather than standardized tests (I wanted to have her focus on the joy of reading and figuring out why the author made rhetorical decisions). First, she worked on her vocabulary assignment. Then, she did a daily edit and has really improved on those. Then, we went over imagery and how it appeals to the five senses and had her go through a poem and identify the sight images, the smell images, etc. I picked a very sensory poem, and she enjoyed breaking it down into the different parts. She mentioned that she had gotten a 92 on her most recent reading comprehension assignment at school.

The student and I spent the majority of our session practicing his spelling words for the next day's test. He did very well for the most part with remembering the spellings of the words. We practiced until he was feeling confident with all his spelling words. I am continually impressed by his curiosity in all areas of learning, how many questions he asks, and his desire to learn new things.

As the student's teacher had taken up her English review, we began studying her Spanish vocabulary words. For words that were difficult, we thought of ways she could remember them. I also had her group words by nouns, verbs, and adjectives by color coding words.

Today, the student and I started reading Charlotte's Web together. She has already been working on the book on her own time, but hadn't made a lot of progress since I last met with her because of her busy schedule. Therefore, going forward, we are going to read and discuss the story together to continue working on her reading comprehension skills and to get her reading level up. She did well reading the chapters we concentrated on today and she was able to follow along with the plot and main ideas. I am looking forward to continuing to read the book with her.

Reading Tutoring review by Traci in Diamond Bar, CA
The student is doing a "Shark Tank" project for school, and he made his presentation to me before we started our phonics lesson. He's done a really great job and I love his product idea - he's made "travel tents" that kids can put over them while they ride in the car or fly on a plane so they have some privacy. He's been using his and it's working well for him! He is a fun kid. We went through the lesson and built his knowledge of -ey when it says long e, and he practiced his handwriting.
