I graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Human Development, and a minor in Educational Studies. As part of my coursework, I spent much time working in K-12 classrooms, helping students garner valuable skills to succeed! Since graduation, I have started working at an academically enriching, after-school program for elementary school students. My favorite subject to tutor is Elementary Math because I enjoy getting the opportunity to work with young students whose educational trajectory can be significantly impacted by my help! I also enjoy tutoring the ACT because I like seeing how elated students are when their hard work begins to pay off, and their test scores rise.

I believe that individualization of instruction is crucial to academic success because students are able to get targeted feedback on their own strengths and weaknesses, not the entire class's strengths and weaknesses. I also seek to be personally approachable to students because when there is a divide between tutor and tutoree, I do not believe that the student learns as much as they potentially can. I see the tutoring relationship as a two-way avenue in which both parties learn valuable, new skills throughout sessions. In my spare time, I like to spend time with my friends and family, volunteer, bake, play sports and read!

Q & A

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I like to spend the majority of the first session discussing with both the student and the parent about goals of tutoring, past test scores, and how they would like tutoring sessions to be structured. I think it is important to not immediately jump into tutoring because every student requires an individualized approach to optimize the tutoring experience!

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Personally, I like to use official study guides made by the test publishers. Additionally, the tutoring platform has great resources available online to use - the test questions portal is a great way to practice learned material in between tutoring sessions!
