About Me

I am a graduate of Oberlin College (BA), Case Western Reserve University (PhD-STEM and MS-Engineering), University of Illinois at Chicago (MPH- Epidemiology) and Clayton College of Natural Health (ND). I was a pre-medical student and received my Bachelor of Arts in Communication Theory with a focus on neurological speech disorders associated with brain injuries. Upon graduation, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to integrate my studies in communication theories and the sciences as an environmental scientist and engineer working for the power industry focused on understanding than designing engineering systems to minimize the impacts of environmental pollution on public health. I eventually received a graduate scholarship from the Society of Women's Engineers to complete my Master of Systems & Controlling Engineering degree from Case Western Reserve University. I have always been committed to helping students and started tutoring in college and throughout my career as a professional engineer and scientist before transitioning into full time teaching at the university level. I also created engineering/science/mathematics programs between NASA, Oberlin College and Case Western Reserve University for students who could work with me and or get support in their academic endeavors with my assistance. I am also a published author of several books that have focused on an historical interdisciplinary examination of environmental health inequalities in the USA and globally. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Environmental Science, Public Health, Mathematics, Engineering and History. In my experience helping struggling students who are afraid of science, math and engineering has been very rewarding. I am a firm proponent of accessible STEM (science, technology, environment, and mathematics) education, believing it to be necessary for an improved quality of life. I try to impart this appreciation to all my students since their everyday lives are impacted by STEM concepts and developments. In my spare time, I enjoy walking the talk as an environmentalist. I love gardening, developing certified backyard bird and butterfly habitats, reading, playing board games, and taking daily walks in the local forest preserves.
