Today, the student and I again focused on online research. She had a science study guide to complete this week and spent about three hours researching three questions online for it. We talked about how entering the right words into the search toolbar makes a huge difference in the results that come up. We also worked on another skill essential to faster online research: skimming an article. I taught her to look quickly through the article for the keywords she was looking for, and read around that area.

First I had the student fill out his assignment sheet for today. After that, we started on math. We covered identification of triangles and angles, and finding the measurement of angles by process of elimination and by variable equations. He had already finished his science assignment, so we went on to the next math assignment. It was extra practice with adding the angles of triangles, and identifying complementary and supplementary angles. After, he spent time reviewing his upcoming assignments. It was a good session.

In today's lesson, I helped the student with his EKG PowerPoint presentation. He added text and images about the history of EKG's, and I gave advice as to what to include.

Students 1 and 2 worked on math. Student 1 went over unit conversion in the metric system. Student 2 worked on calculating simple interest. Student 3 completed her packet on grammar without needing much help, which is good.

We utilized an online study guide to identify key terms and concepts from his "sound and light" unit in science. He seems to take well to the ideas and vocabulary; I was illustrating some exercises to help clarify the terms. His language arts class's reading of "To Kill A Mockingbird" is coming to a conclusion and he has been paired up with another student for a major in-class assignment. Together, we answered a list of prompts that had been assigned to him based on Harper Lee's classic to help him in this group work. The student seems to be quite focused and organized at this point, and we will strive to keep this up.
