Whether you're a freshman at a school like Heritage Hall who wants to get an early start with their preparation efforts or you're closing in on graduation at a school like Memorial High School, prioritizing your SAT preparation efforts is essential. You don't want to approach one of the most important tests of your academic career without adequate preparation.
Unfortunately, too many students put off studying for this critical test or fail to appreciate the true power their SAT scores can have over their academic future. Whether you are months or years away from applying to college, it's crucial that you take this test seriously. When college admissions officials are sorting through applications, your SAT score will be considered. If you want the best hope of attending your preferred college, scoring well on the SAT should be high on your list of priorities.
What can Oklahoma City SAT prep cover?
The SAT has three primary sections; Math, Writing and Language, and Reading. Combined, you will have three hours to finish these three sections. However, the time is not equally divided. Because of this, time management and testing strategy are far more useful than many students initially imagine. One of the benefits of working with professional SAT prep resources is becoming more familiar with the format of the test so you can plan your strategy appropriately.
You will have to answer 58 multiple choice questions in only 80 minutes during the Math portion of the SAT. However, this section is split into two parts. One part allows you to use a calculator. For the calculator section of the Math SAT, you will have 55 minutes to answer 30 multiple choice questions. It's important to remember that not all calculators can be used on the SAT, so you will need to practice with one that has the same capabilities during your SAT preparation. The other part of the Math SAT does not allow you to use a calculator. For this section, you will have only 25 minutes to answer 15 multiple choice questions. Some of the math skills assessed in this part of the SAT include fluency, conceptual understanding, and applications.
You will have only 35 minutes to answer 44 multiple choice questions in the Writing and Language section of the SAT. You will be presented with a variety of reading passages, tables, charts, and graphs, but you will not need prior subject area knowledge or math skills for any of the answers. Some of the skills you may want to review for this section of the SAT include using words in context, command of evidence, standard English conventions, analytical thinking, and the ability to evaluate the expression of ideas.
You will have 65 minutes to answer 52 multiple choice questions in the Reading section of the SAT. The passages you receive could be from world literature, American literature, historical documents from the founding of the United States, or passages from conversations the historical documents inspired. Some of the skills assessed in this section include identifying supporting evidence in reading passages, drawing inferences, deciphering conclusions, and using words accurately within a given context.
You can also choose to include the SAT Essay section if you want to have your writing aptitude measured. If you opt to take the SAT Essay, you will have 50 minutes to answer a single question. You will be presented with a reading passage and must then write an essay that evaluates the author's argument. You will need to provide supporting evidence from the passage to defend your explanation of their argument, but you are not supposed to present a case about whether or not you agree with the author. In addition to evaluating your analysis of the author's argument, your essay will also be assessed for proper sentence structure, clarity, and proper use of standard written English conventions.
What are some of the benefits of taking an Oklahoma City SAT prep class?
When you enroll in an SAT prep class, you will have the instructional support and structure of a typical classroom. This structure gives you a clear overview of the topics which will be assessed during the test, so you don't have to guess about what needs to be reviewed. You will meet with your class at a scheduled time, and a teacher will deliver the instructional content to you. This format is ideal for students who want a comprehensive SAT review.
After the lesson, your teacher may facilitate group discussions or assign cooperative projects to help deepen your understanding of the topic. One of the most valuable benefits of choosing a class format is a supportive learning environment. When other students ask questions, you can gain invaluable insight which you may have otherwise missed. And, when you have questions, you are helping other students as well.
You can choose between two and four-week classes depending on how much time you have to devote to your SAT preparation. Each of the classes is divided into sections, and new sections start each week. With this type of schedule, it is easy to get started with your SAT prep quickly.
How is working with an Oklahoma City SAT tutor different from taking a course?
When you work with a personal tutor, you receive more personalized instruction than is available in an Oklahoma City SAT prep course. Your private instructor is only focused on your SAT preparation needs, and they can design each lesson to specifically focus on helping you work toward improving your understanding of targeted skills.

I love teaching people and helping others understand and achieve a confidence in themselves. Most people sell themselves short and when motivated can achieve great things.... Provide the right tools, and enough confidence, and anyone can succeed.... First, become acquainted with the student's likes and dislikes. Second, find a direction the student is comfortable in going and then follow the student, providing any necessary support.... Implementing thought patterns that will help students think outside the box and become better problem solvers. Also, I believe boosting confidence is a key factor.

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher. I believe that teaching is more than a job, more than a career; it is a calling. Making a difference in the lives of others is important to me. I can't think of another job that offers that opportunity as much as teaching. ... The first session would begin with me getting to know my student. I want to know what they enjoy doing, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and find something that we have in common. The commonality will give us something from which to build a relationship. After these things are accomplished, it will be time to get down to the business at hand - learning!

...calculus. Math is a subject almost universally hated, and I believe that is mainly due to the narrow way in which it is taught. I have ADHD, and I often don't understand things the first time they are explained to me, meaning over the years I have had to figure out different ways of looking at information. Oftentimes, all a student needs is for something to be explained in a different way, and I love...

I believe in the power of education.... Believe in yourself. You have the power to do great things. If you work hard and try your best, you can achieve anything you want. I can help guide you, but you have to put in the work.... Ask them questions to understand what they know, what they need help with, and what will be the best way to approach the tutoring sessions... By teaching them good study skills, test taking skills, time management, and organization. Also, by helping them to realize their potential and help them feel empowered.

I'm a graduate having acquired a Masters and Bachelors Degree in engineering from the University of Central Oklahoma. I am very well versed in math and science courses, mostly physics and engineering from my experience as an engineering student. I have experience with college prep and GRE testing as well, with an emphasis on math/quantitative reasoning.... Practice and patience are a solution for some, but correct learning methods are the key for others!... Get to know the student and find out what they need help with. Afterwards, design a program to help them with the issues they are having.
