Behind Persepolis : The Islamic Revolution
This webquest is designed to help students understand the Islamic Revolution and the Iran/Iraq war as a whole. It is designed for use before/during/after reading Persepolis .

Exploring the Islamic Revolution
In this lesson, students read an article exploring U.S.-Iran relations on the anniversary of the 30th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of 1979, research the events of that period, and write historical fiction based on photographs of Iran then and now.

Gaining Background for the Graphic Novel Persepolis: A WebQuest on Iran
This lesson includes a WebQuest in which students research relevant and reliable information in groups, and a technology-enhanced presentation that allows them to share the information with their classmates. It is designed to build background knowledge prior to reading.

Lesson: Storyboarding Revolution
Using an excerpt of Persepolis students will investigate how Marjane Satrapi represents her life by reading one of the book’s vignettes. Students consider how history is told by considering the author’s perspective in telling her story about the Islamic Revolution in Iran. This graphic novel helps students question different points of view in history. It also provides student with the format of the storyboard to consider how to tell a historical narrative, sequencing events, and highlighting cause and effect within a historical context.
