Varsity Tutors can connect you to resources and instruction that are focused on helping you maximize your Ann Arbor ACT prep. These services can adapt to your needs and situation. If you attend a local school such as Pioneer High School or Huron High School, you will most likely need to take the ACT if you plan to apply to college. A good score on the ACT can make your application more appealing to colleges and universities. Because the ACT can have this sort of impact on your future, it is important to prepare well.
The ACT is most commonly taken during 11th or 12th grade. There are six testing dates per year in the United States. The exam takes three hours and 35 minutes if you choose to partake in the optional Writing section. If you do not take the optional Writing section, the exam takes 2 hours and 55 minutes to complete.
What can I review during Ann Arbor ACT prep?
The ACT consists of four main sections and an optional Writing portion. The mandatory sections of the ACT are Math, Reading, English, and Science. Each mandatory section of the ACT is scored from 1 to 36 while the optional Writing portion is scored from 2 to 12. The scores from the mandatory sections are combined into a total 1 to 36 score while the Writing section's score is not factored into the combined score. Let's take a moment to examine the particulars of each section.
There are 60 multiple-choice questions that make up the Math section of the ACT. You will have one hour to complete these questions. The exam tests students on math skills that are assumed to have been taught up to the beginning of grade 12. These subjects include algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. You must understand numerical reasoning, functions, interpreting equations, and data analysis.
In the Reading section of the ACT, you will encounter concepts and passages that are roughly equal in difficulty to those of a first-year college class. The 40 questions in this section require you to identify ideas and themes in the passages, understand word and phrase meanings, and make connections across texts. You will have 35 minutes to complete this section.
The English section allows you 45 minutes to complete 75 multiple-choice questions. These questions are based around assigned passages. You must understand the English language and the effective written use of it. In addition to English grammar and usage conventions, you will need to understand how to evaluate the style or tone of a particular passage as well as how to organize ideas well.
In the Science section, you will answer 40 multiple-choice questions that are based on your ability to interpret and analyze data, reason, and solve problems. The questions cover diverse areas of the science curriculum such as biology, chemistry, and physics. You will encounter several forms of scientific data, and you must use effective scientific reasoning and knowledge to solve problems. You will have 35 minutes to finish this section of the exam.
If you opt to take the Writing section, you will respond to a provided essay prompt. You will have 40 minutes to complete your essay. Your prompt will offer three perspectives on a particular issue. You must respond to the issue raised by the prompt while engaging with at least one of the three perspectives. This requires you to organize an effective argument, analyze written arguments, and make coherent comparisons.
How can Ann Arbor ACT prep help me to study effectively?
During your ACT preparation, you can choose two main paths to guide your time. If you choose to attend an Ann Arbor ACT prep course, you will learn in a collaborative online classroom with other students and a skilled instructor. If you wish to work with an Ann Arbor ACT tutor, you can learn in a personalized environment with a private academic mentor. Regardless of which option suits your needs best, these sessions are flexible to schedule and can adapt to what you need.
An Ann Arbor ACT prep class allows you and your classmates to interact with each other and your instructor in a virtual classroom. These real-time interactions allow for engaging and collaborative learning. By hearing from your instructor and classmates, you will have a chance to hear different perspectives on the material you are learning. By asking questions and participating in class discussions, you can internalize the content you are reviewing and help your instructor know where to direct the sessions. For example, if several people in the class are struggling with a particular concept, they can spend extra time demonstrating and discussing that concept. You are also able to schedule a time outside of class to meet with your instructor and talk through material that is challenging for you.
There are new sessions at various times that start every week. You can join an Ann Arbor ACT prep class whenever you are ready. There are sessions that last for two or four weeks, and you can choose which option works best for you. These sessions are available at several times so you can pick sessions that fit your schedule.
Working with an Ann Arbor ACT tutor is a chance to learn in an atmosphere tailored to your needs. You and your academic mentor can make a plan that accommodates your needs, learning style, and goals. The interactions you have with your instructor can help you to make the most of your preparation and increase your confidence as you approach the exam.

I received my undergraduate degree in Physics with a minor in Mathematics. Also, I recently graduated with my Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Applied Physics. I love teaching and helping students grasp concepts. I believe in moving beyond rote memorization to personal mastery and ownership of one's education. I am available to tutor in SAT Math Test prep, Algebra 1-4, Pre-Calulus, and Trigonometry.... I found it most rewarding to continuously remind my students that math and science mastery is obtainable as long as they were willing to persevere and struggle through difficult concepts. I look forward to each opportunity to empower my students through tutoring. I have also taught SAT courses, so I realize the importance of student engagement and participation when teaching complex subjects. I adapt my style and teaching to each student.
