Hi! My name is Julia and I am excited to be on Varsity Tutors. I graduated from University of Maryland in 2016 with Bachelor's degrees in Secondary Education and English Language and Literature. I also minored in leadership studies. I am an advocate of young people using their voice through writing to learn more about themselves and find their passions.

Recently returned from teaching English to high school students in Cambodia as a Peace Corps volunteer, I'm happy to be able to use my skills and training to help students of all ages in the United States. Prior to teaching in Cambodia, I tutored high school students in reading and writing. I also taught adults of all ages English in ESL classes. I obtained a B.A. in International Studies from American University.

Having an undergraduate degree and a master's in education made many people feel that I would be well qualified to teach English to speakers of other languages. I've been a volunteer math tutor for high school and elementary students. I was a foster parent of a new teenager and a scoutmaster or assistant. I worked 32 years at NASA/GSFC doing operational navigational support of satellites, research in solar astronomy, and writing software. I taught college physics labs and gave planetarium lectures to those of all ages.
