I am a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a B.A. in English and a minor in educational studies. I am currently pursuing my M.A. in English with a specialization in creative writing. I have had two years of experience working in a classroom setting. I worked as an America Reads tutor at an Elementary School for ESL students, first and third graders. I have also completed a high school practicum in which I assisted a language and composition class. I also helped teach poetry writing to students in high school and judged said work competitively. I am in love with all things English, and have an extra passion for creative writing! I work well with all ages, in both reading and writing.

I worked as the Senior Opinion Editor of my campus paper, and I also worked for my University's graduate literary journal, so I am well-equipped in all things grammatical, editing, and copywriting!

I also have experience creating lesson plans and accommodations for students with disabilities!

My educational studies minor is teaching theories and pedagogies! So I took the same courses as individuals getting a teaching certification!

My specific teaching style varies for each student, as all students learn differently! My core teaching pedagogy is based on a combination of Vygotsky's principles of scaffolding and Piaget's beliefs and cognitive development.

I like to model "I do, we do, you do." In this, I present the core topic for the day, I bring in background context or a related topic that I know the student already understands, and then model or demonstrate the task to be learned. Then I guide that student through the lesson, and lastly end on a skill assessment with the student demonstrating that they understand the concept.

I work with each student's individual needs and tailor my lessons around that.

These are the topics I am best equipped to tutor:

K-12 Reading and Writing
ESL Reading and Writing
Creative Writing
Essay Writing
Special education Reading and Writing

My biggest interest is creative writing and memoir writing! I have a few pieces of prose and poetry published, and I am currently working on a novella while completing short stories in the meantime.

Hobbies

My biggest interest is creative writing and memoir writing! I have a few pieces of prose and poetry published, and I am currently working on a novella while completing short stories in the meantime. I am also a huge baker! I have a cottage baking license, in which I sometimes do pop-up events. My grandmother used to own a bakery in New York, so I learned all I needed to know from her! And of course I LOVE READING! Above all, I really love teaching and working with students from all backgrounds. I believe that all people deserve equitable accommodations and support so that everyone is given an equal opportunity to succeed.
